you need nudity, violance, profanity. There is not a single top show in the last decade that did not had plently of these.
Downton Abbey... ?

We don't have enough information to know if it's bad and a failure, yet. If it is, they have plenty of money to fix it....which is what you need in content.Or not. Maybe the other streamers didn't think much of the shows, and that's why they didn't bid more for them? Apple decided these shows were big enough to launch their new platform with, which looks like an enormous error of judgement given the universal critical disdain.
Is that what we expect from Apple? Low-quality content propped up by fat budgets? No. That's not what Apple is about. It's not just "a couple of preliminary reviews" - there are lots of outlets reporting the same things. Nobody seems to think any of these shows are any good.
And while it is true that Apple have lots of cash, that doesn't mean they can afford to throw any amount of money at any problem. That would be utterly stupid management. These new business units need to show that they deliver value to investors - through their direct profits (production and infrastructure costs vs. subscription revenue) or by enticing more users to enter or stay in Apple's ecosystem. So far, it doesn't look like they're off to a good start, and that's worrying for the entire project.
I kind of disagree with that analysis, though its completely subjective. I tried to watch The Sopranos a few times and couldn't get past the first two or three episodes. After a couple years, I binged the series in no time once I got into the story. Sometimes, shows start off slow to introduce you to the characters, then takes off. Its hard to explain, but I'd rather a show start slow and get better than to start strong and devolve, like Lost or Dexter.
What do you need? An entire season? If 3 hours of screentime does not get your attention, just remember that this is almost 2 full lenght movies. If the show get at least 7.0 on IMDB, it may be worth may precious free time. I wont be a laboratory rat for testing shows. That whats the professional reviewers and critics are paid for. At the end, a bad show would accomuluate milions of views counts just from the curiosity of the people, sending a wrong message to Apple that their show may be worth something, which apprently is not, even as free content. With only 3 episodes available to critics I think I’ll ignore the reviews and make up my own mind. Roll on Friday!
Does anyone else remember when Apple just made great computers and software? Those were the good old days.
I guess for you, rape is political? Also, morning show men being rape-y, like Matt Lauer.

Well, if they hadn't become a music company, they probably wouldn't still be making computers.Anybody remember when Apple was, you know, a computer company?
Ok, do you have any example of a TV show where the vast majority of the critics agreed that it is meh but the general public endorsed as great? I can recall any. The opposite situation may happen in very rare circumstance where the first 2-3 episodes are great and then the show goes downhill big time. Highly unlikely scenario for a show with such a high profile and budget. One thing we should also remember....
critics and audiences sometimes differ in opinions of shows. There are numerous critically acclaimed shows that audiences just did not watch and thus got cancelled.
There are shows fans loved but critics panned. And there are shows like OITNB that, if shown on network tv schedule, would’ve failed. There are a lot of factors on whether a show succeeds or fails.
The real test of failure or success is how the audience react to it.
I didn't read all of the reviews, I scanned through a lot of them. They were not positive.
That's not really the point.
Did you read the article I linked? Sums up the current state of Apple quite nicely and demonstrates the lack of focus they are exhibiting in 2019.
Early reviews
Morning show - Too bland, drama feels forced
See - Not enough going on
Dickinson - Too revisionist, not funny
For all Mankind- Interesting but slow, packed with gender politics
not really surprising. I’ve watched every trailer looking for something that feels marginally compelling, getting little more than “meh” for me.
Also kind of weird that so many of their flagship shows have such a strong political slant. Does that bring in viewership?
I'm largely in the same boat. I can tell in the first episode if I'm going to like or not. Occasionally, a second episode re-direction can change my mind. And sometimes I'll even give it a third. But by then you know if it's going to be something that's worth your time, at least for the rest for the immediate future. If a show doesn't grab me in the first 2 episodes, then I bail. There's so much to watch now that I can't devote any more time than that. I think most people are that way these days.
It's the same reason why I couldn't stand HBO's "Westworld." People told me it gets better around episode 6… I've got to devote 6 hours on a show to find out if it gets better? Um, then that means it's not good.
Please note that Variety and the Hollywood Reporter can’t stand Apple and haven’t for years. So I wouldn’t pay attention to the reviews. Every episode of “For all mankind” already leaked online and I’m currently so invested in it.
Nope. Rape is not political. But if you don't think there is a political angle to any of the "me too" dynamic, you're perhaps not paying attention.I guess for you, rape is political?
For all mankind looks hella interesting, esp. with the reviews.
Apple will learn their lesson the hard way. If you want great content, you need nudity, violance, profanity. There is not a single top show in the last decade that did not had plently of these. Apple looks for neutral, politically correct content because they think that a show can damage their brand which is absurd. It is like thinking that Discovery channel are nazis because they have a documentary on Hitler or that HBO tolerate violance just because a woman is raped in one of their shows.
