False equivalence is false. What’s the problem with my wanting Apple to do well? There are a few of us here lol.

Besides, it seems to me like “the haters” as you call them have plenty to chew even if I didn’t call their attention to their mindless hate, don’t you think? Wouldn’t the forums be pretty boring if we only had Apple-hate posts?

For those who thought AppleTV+ was a failure before it even debuted, it must be disappointing when Apple has wins like this. I do hope Apple wins many more Emmys and Grammys, and racks up Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, People’s Choice Awards, Television Critics Association awards and no doubt at some point, even Oscars. Feasting on the tears of those consumed with Apple hate, well that’s just a little icing on the cake. If that makes me an Apple-hater hater, so be it. I’m ok with that label :)
I will join you at the great feast of tears. It is coming.

I don't let Hollywood hack trophies decide what I like to watch. Nor do I need validation by PR back patting bullcrap. Although Timmy & the Apple seeds crave it desperately.

Before TV+ was released: The critics claimed the shows suck. They must be right!

December 2019: the critical recognition for The Morning Show at The Golden Globes proves the critics are wrong!

It's not my kind of show, but even being nominated is pretty impressive for a first effort. And lots of shows we love didn't start out very strong, they took a few years to get lock everything in. So good start, I just want to see more content, in different genres.

I wanted the first 2 episodes, frankly to say it is not my kind... but I agree it is a good show as almost all my colleagues, friends, as well as my parents gave a very positive feedback.

Early naysayer here, but I'm willing to admit it is pretty well done. We watch it, altho I'm having trouble imagining, into the next season, what the next major plot line will be. Can't be "mattlauered" all over again. Anniston character divorce wouldn't even merit a headline for a real TV personality, so what tropes are in the offing?

If this was the '90s or early to mid-2000s yes, it would be.

But people want to judge it without watching any of it.
Since when do the experts here on the forums need to actually have any factual basis for their Apple-hate?

Many proclaimed ATV+ a failure starting 2.5 years ago. And they continued their crap posting with every one of the 40-50 shows that were announced thereafter. They still do.

“None of Apple’s shows appeals to me”, “that looks terrible”, “Apple has no idea what they’re doing”, “Where’s my Mac Pro/Mac mini”, “Apple can’t even make a keyboard that works, what makes them think they can do a streaming video service”, “Why doesn’t Tim Apple fix the bugs in iOS/MacOS first”, “Timmy just wants to hang out with celebrities”, “Apple will never make any money on streaming video”, etc., ad nauseum.

All these and many more were posted over and over, and continue to be posted to this very day. All the wise analysts here will offer their expert opinion about how Apple is wrong in doing whatever it’s doing at the moment.

They’re continually wrong, and they have no shame. They were wrong about the iPod. The iTunes store. The iPhone. The iPad. The Apple Watch. Beats. AirPods. And they’re wrong about AppleTV+.

You would think they’d get tired of being wrong, or embarassed for themselves. You’d be wrong.

People misjudged this show based on the first three episodes. Glad it's getting the recognition it deserves for its fine storytelling, acting and production.

Unfortunately I cannot agree with You. After big reveals in episode 3 and 4 this show gets soooo woooden. Relationship with family both Bradley (cut off after 1st epiosode) and Alex (oh my good such a wooden acting on her daughter side and Alex towards her). Corey's speeches are geting more and more uninspiring and too long. TMS competitors and NYT journalist are flat and are unable to produce any threat to main characters. And the list goes on...

What I will hold in highest regard is - set design, production value, music production. Also Corey and "Chip" character were most promising but one get flat and other inconsistent with serious integrity issues (that are not backed up by story).

So on the final note. It's great production with mediocre storytelling and acting. So for me it got awarded in all wrong categories.

Also last episode showed another character as very inconsistent. If what he did there was consensual he has serious problem with reality perception or dictionary knowledge (none of which is backed up by story in any way - so another example of bad writing).

Billy Crudup is probably the best cast member of the show and he didn’t get nominated.

I am only as far as episode 4, but he gets to play a great character. I will be curious where he goes. So far I really like the series. They have done a good job with a hard topic.

Not surprised or disappointed. Dickinson, For All Mankind and The Morning Show have been high up on my list of favourite shows this year.

I think a lot of the initial bad reviews were because of the sympathetic view of the Steve Carrel character early on (which is clearly changing throughout the show), and the nuanced take on the #metoo movement. For another example where this occurred, see Chappelle's latest special. Panned by critics, but 99% audience rating on RT.

true. I thought Chapelle’s netflix special was brilliant. I am as liberal & progressive as you can be, but i agree, political correctness has gone too far. I think adults can understand the difference.

Many reviewers actually changed their scores as they watched through the series. Also, this show is amazing and deserves all the awards it is up for. Try watching it before jumping to conclusions.

I LOVE CHIP TOO! Chip is legit my Baby Yoda on TMS. I've always been a fan of Duplass, he plays low key creepy every-man so well (see Creep).

no i agree. I was just going by the initial backlash & Made a joke about that. Of course one has to watch something thru till the end before passing judgement. Someone else pointed out about Dave Chapelle’s last netflix special as an example. Got slammed by the politically correct police, but most adults who watched it, loved it. Myself included.

I’m not sure critics of atv+ were also equally being critical of every device Apple has made. Heck the hardware is why I’m here. I’m deep in the ecosystem.

The story here hasn’t been told yet. Who’s right or who’s wrong? Only Apple knows. The only thing we can probably agree on is that it’s a long term play. Much of it depends on Apple and what they may or may not do later in terms of supporting it. Ive always had the sense that Apple can change on a dime here as they’re figuring things out and don’t seem to have a solid game plan. Either double down, back off, or stay consistent.

Yes. Best Macrumors Post of 2019.

Yes. That was literally the message the producers/writers were giving across. As humans, we all have reality perception issues. There are two sides and perspectives to every story. We see what we want to see. I thought episode 8 and that revelation about Mitch, especially in light of the earlier scene with Martin Short was incredibly insightful television.

I wasn’t addressing critics of AppleTV+, rather the knee jerk bitching and complaining of the resident Apple-hate crowd and concern trolls. There’s a huge difference between legit criticism and blind Apple auto-hate; they’ve got nothing at all in common. Anyone who’s hung out here for more than a couple months (or weeks) will know what’s what. Or rather, who’s who.

I personally don’t get the feeling Apple doesn’t seem to have a solid game plan. From the moment they hired Erlicht and Van Amburg, what I see is 2.5 years of consistently solid, near-flawless execution, both strategically and tactically. (The only setback I can recall atm is the release hold on the Samuel Jackson film where the real-life son of one of the film’s characters, once a producer/consultant on the film, was fired due to allegations of sexual assault.)

Apple’s got 40-50 properties in various stages of production, and a couple years from now we will have seen 100 or so. My personal expectation is we’ll look back and say, wow Apple’s put out a ton of great content in the last couple years. But who knows? Like you say, the story (literally) hasn’t yet been told.

For what? Because stars are in it?

Because it is very good.

Was highly skeptical of TMS. Never watched Anniston in anything, not even Friends. And I dislike looking at the little female gnome named Witherspoon. But through 8 episodes, this is a really really good show and am enjoying it.

Crudup and Carrell just got nominated for SAG awards, Aniston is up for another too. That's 3 more nominations for TMS.

I think The Crown basically runs away with this one. Kind of surprised this even got nominated given all the bad reviews most of the industry press gave it.

I enjoyed The Crown, especially S1 and S2. I've watched a couple episodes of S3 but haven't really gotten into it.
