So far Ted Lasso and For All Mankind. The movie Greyhound. That’s been pretty much it for me. This looks like a miss but I’ll keep an open mind since Ted Lasso didn’t look great to me and I was completely blown away by it.

In the middle of several books.
Looks interesting, but I wouldn't call it a "comedy." It looks like a man suffering depression trying to figure life out. Tragic and introspective, maybe mildly amusing, but hardly a comedy.
I don't think 'dark comedy," which is what this show is labeled, is really meant to cause the viewer to openly laugh and out o control jovial. I think the comedy aspect is merely a smiling recognition of relatability with the viewer. That is how I interpret it.

TV- is mostly geared towards the 35 and under crowd, though produced mostly by older farts my age. Go figure!

Boy is this true. Popular music as well.
As a counterpoint I'm 49 and love a *ton* of stuff on ATV+. So far my wife and I have watched

For All Mankind
The Morning Show
Physical
Ted Lasso
Mythic Quest
Dickinson
Amazing Stories
Wolfwalkers
Greyhound
Fireball
Palmer
Beastie Boys Story

And by and large they've been great, engaging television. There's a bunch of other stuff one or both of us want to watch but we just haven't gotten around to and we're looking forward to more of the shows we're already watching.

Worth every penny for us. Wouldn't change a thing besides giving us more.

I thought slacker movies died out in the mid ‘90s. Obviously not.

Hate the term “dramedy” as it usually ends up being neither genre of any substance.

Vibes of “This is 40” with Paul Rudd, except without the comedy.

can’t speak for him and obviously tastes differ but this type of lovable loser / navel gazing storyline is getting really tiresome. It’s been don’t to death and a little bit of a more heartfelt tone isn’t going to help.

these storylines are becoming more and more detached from reality and hence Are becoming increasingly unrelatable, at least for me. I get that ATV+ is trying to go in a different direction than most other content providers, it’s just that for me ( and I guess some others ) it misses the mark.
What shows do you watch in general that are not detached from reality and are relatable to you out of curiosity?

Mr Gordon-Levitt is usually interesting/enjoyable to watch (loved The Walk) So I have high hopes of this ‘dramedy’.

As far as Apple TV+ goes, let me share my experience so far (as a 62-year old Irishman)
LOVED:
For All Mankind, Tehran, Home Before Dark, Little Voice, The Banker, Mosquito Coast

LIKED:
Hala, Elephant Queen, Little America, Letter to You, Earth at Night, Amazing Stories, Greyhound, Long Way Up (plus the other two, not produced by Apple), Ghost Writer, The Year Earth Changed

DISAPPOINTED WITH:
Wolfwakers, Tiny World

STARTED BUT DIDN‘T FINISH:
See, Ted Lasso, Mythic Quest, Dickinson, Servant, The World’s a Little Blurry, Truth be Told, Calls, Trying

REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO:
Foundation (and the next seasons of some of the above).

I’m very happy with the €4.99 monthly charge, if they keep up the level of shows they’ve turned out so far. Enough for me to justify subscribing after my free trial ends.

i love joseph. i don't care for the subject matter, i feel over inundated with mental illness - shows, stories, articles, threads, social media posts, etc. but i'll care if it is executed well and it manages to be entertaining.

I'm not sure it was mentioned in the news story, but Gordon-Leavitt created, wrote and directed this. Also Debra Winger is in the cast. She's pretty picky with her projects and we don't see her often, so will be curious to see her work. Also stars Juno Temple, who plays Keeley Jones in Ted Lasso.

Then ATV + is for you, for sure.

Just by the name it was obviously going to be about the travails of a teacher.

Always been a JGL fan. Rewatching 3rd Rock with my wife and he is brilliant in that, considering his age. Channeling a middle-aged alien in the body of a teenaged boy, while also dealing with the power structure of a dysfunctional team pretending to be a functional family was a lot for a kid actor to handle.

Looks interesting, but I wouldn't call it a "comedy." It looks like a man suffering depression trying to figure life out. Tragic and introspective, maybe mildly amusing, but hardly a comedy.
Depression is funny when it happens to men, don’t you know?

Yet another winner for Apple. My subscription ends in a few days, but I haven't used it in months. "See" was okay but went down with COVID. "Servant" watchable in season 1, not so much in 2.

If this topic "I suck as a whole person" strikes a chord with you, I recommend you start by reading John Taylor Gatto's book "The Underground History of American Education".

Does Apple have any other trick down its sleeves than signing up big star names and hoping for the best?
