Apple today announced the release of the official trailer for the upcoming musical comedy series "Schmigadoon!" ahead of its July 16 premiere on Apple TV+.

A parody of iconic Golden Age musicals, Apple says "Schmigadoon!" stars Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key as a couple on a backpacking trip designed to reinvigorate their relationship who discover a magical town living in a 1940s musical. They then learn that they can't leave until they find "true love."

Apple says the series has a star-studded cast featuring Strong and Key along with Alan Cumming, Kristin Chenoweth, Aaron Tveit, Dove Cameron, Ariana DeBose, Fred Armisen, Jaime Camil, Jane Krakowski, and Ann Harada.

The first two episodes of the six-episode season will premiere on July 16 on Apple TV+, followed by one new episode weekly every Friday.

In other Apple TV+ news, today marks the premieres of the second season of animated musical comedy "Central Park," the whale documentary "Fathom," and the documentary "Who Are You, Charlie Brown?" narrated by Lupita Nyong'o.

Key and Cecily are wonderful singers, which makes it odd they didn’t sing in the trailer. Regardless, I’m in for this all the way. Apple TV + has so many gems already.

As has been implied, I can't decide if this is targeting me (someone who hates musicals) or someone who actually enjoys musicals.

Or both.

I think I'll give it a shot, but I have to say, the cast alone is probably worth giving it that shot.

Having them sing is probably the "main event" of the season and so you'll need to pay to see it. Not giving it away for free in the trailers.

And this looks amazing. Can't wait.

Dissenting opinion here. Strong cast, but the plot sounds terrible. Straight out of Hallmark Channel kind of stuff. Of course lots of people like Hallmark Channel, but I'm not one of them.
I am not optimistic about it either. But I am a skeptic. Unfortunately, I am more often right than wrong in retrospect.

Not that you're wrong about the Hallmark thing, but just FYI - this is loosely based (a parody, maybe?) on an existing musical called Brigadoon. There's also a 1954 film with Gene Kelly, Van Johnson, and Cyd Charisse.

Like others, I'm super excited for this because of the cast!
