So, everything has to be for one demographic? It would be hard to figure that one out. I'm not even going to try.I can’t figure out who the target audience is for all of Apples programming. Perhaps it’s the 40 women demographic ?
Yeah that’s a very interesting stylistic choice for this kind of article. It would be just as strong without saying “Apple says…”I like the couple of instances of "Apple says..." in the article and what it sort of implies. "Well, Apple saaaays that it stars Cecily Strong, but can we really trust them?" 🤣
Movie 43 had a 👌 cast as well. That doesn’t mean anything.Yeah that’s a very interesting stylistic choice for this kind of article. It would be just as strong without saying “Apple says…”
But back to the main topic, this show is going to be amazing. The cast is 👌
Read the comments. It's for people who both like and dislike musicals. After Hamilton, that adds up to a lot of people.I can’t figure out who the target audience is for all of Apples programming. Perhaps it’s the 40 women demographic ?
Except Movie 43 wasn't a movie so much as a money grab of A-list actors in a bunch of short stories thrown together. Same as New Year's Eve and Valentine's Day. That formula rarely works.Movie 43 had a 👌 cast as well. That doesn’t mean anything.
Answer: old people or people who feed into retro-mediocre culture.I can’t figure out who the target audience is for all of Apples programming. Perhaps it’s the 40 women demographic ?
When you can drop the narrative at any time and break into spontaneous song, plot is not on anyone's mind.Dissenting opinion here. Strong cast, but the plot sounds terrible. Straight out of Hallmark Channel kind of stuff. Of course lots of people like Hallmark Channel, but I'm not one of them.
The wonder of streaming is that there are so many services and shows, almost every audience can be addressed. You might like 3 big network gatekeepers and Nielson ratings dictating taste to you but anyone interested in a musical like this is here for a different reason and everyone (including you) gets what they want.Sorry, Apple. Been watching bits and pieces, hoping something would hook. The offerings are very MOR, this looks typical. The wonder of streaming is that no one will ever truly know how many actually watch the show. You can pump up hype via paid bots and make a poor showing appear to be a worldwide hit. Cults that enjoy such showings will get into echo chambers and choke in their cloisters.
Luckily, Hollywood is a hobby for Apple. Apple has such an enormous revenue that playing movie-mogul is perfectly affordable. The longterm problem is that Apple will slowly begin to look like the dinosaurs they constantly fought against. They will become a cultural tide marker drowning as time lapses. It would be excellent to have new, fresh voices that aren't bred and groomed in the common entertainment market.

Answer from bots: SHUT UP, BIGOT!
Check out Hair.I don't particularly like them either but after watching Hamilton, I think I do now.

Unless it's a properly written musical where the function of the song is to advance the plot further. When you can drop the narrative at any time and break into spontaneous song, plot is not on anyone's mind.
I don't think they're only aiming for the pure musical theater crowd. There is just too much musical theater culture out there to mock which all audiences can appreciate. So they'll probably mostly mock musicals but also pay tribute with little references for musical geeks and fans too like most modern satire.Unless it's a properly written musical where the function of the song is to advance the plot further.
This looks to be a generic "musicals are funny so let's make fun of that" thing. The Oklahoma and Rogers and Hammerstein parody is fun but not wholly original. I'll be interested if every song is a homage to a musical - or if they break into a unique musical timbre for the world... which they probably won't do.
