Apple TV Software Update Adds Photo Stream, NHL Games, Wall Street Journal

I'm curious about this as well...would be enough reason to buy an Apple TV if it were included for free. My guess is that you'll need GameCenter or some sort of paid subscription based on the other offerings they already have, http://www.apple.com/appletv/#sports-news

Yes, you need to subscribe to GameCenter Live. I did so through the GameCenter Live web site, and not through the app, as the direct purchase gives you the option to pay $20 monthly instead of $160 in one payment. Once you've purchased your subscription, you go to the settings of the app and entire your log-in information, and the live game feeds then show up. Keep in mind that it is still subject to regional and national TV related black-outs.

While it's not NHL hockey, you do have the Gwinnett Gladiators nearby. They're a perennial contender in the ECHL... might want to give them a look-see.
 
How about iPlayer, 4oD or ITV player for Apple TVs in the UK? It'd be the thing that would get it into quite a few houses I feel.

(if this feature is already available on :apple:TV then why is it not publicised?)
 
as a hockey fan i'm excited considering the center ice package with cablevision is awful.

(I think me and Surely are the only ones going to be excited about this :p)
 
Great, now give me the option to NOT show the items I never use (like the sports stuff) in the list of menu items. It's stupid to have to have it there if I never use it. I'd have thought this was pretty basic, but noooooooooo...:rolleyes:

DirecTV now has an online only NFL package similar to MLB, although the price is outrageous ($399 - $499 can not remember off hand).

All they need to do is tap into that link, add a fancy graphic and they are GOLDEN!!! The price is high to subscribe but hey - that's what apple users are used to anyway...

I'm pretty darn excited...when Apple lets it do 1080p. 20$ a month for 720 is still a nice option to have vs. my current 50$ a month for 1080

I hate having to use my PS3 and Xbox for Hulu+. The PS3 is horribly laggy and cannot properly buffer a stream. The Xbox streams wonderfully, but the interface is awful (the queue is sorted OLDEST first with no way to swap and see the newest content, forcing you to scroll through 25-item chunks to get to the very end of the list where the new shows are).

I just want a nice slick Hulu+ app for the AppleTV to simplify things like it does for Netflix.

Disable the PS3 IP address in your router firewall..so you get NAT 1 on it. All lag will be gone. Plus you will be able to get PS3 media server to work properly too.

The Apple TV is running on iOS5 now. The software version is 4.4 but that's something entirely different from the OS version. What people dont understand is the ATV software is just an app that runs on top of iOS5. So just like any other app in ios5, it has it's own software version as well.

If you click the select button while on the Settings > About page on the ATV, it will report the OS as 5.0
 
Just can't do the update. I like my ATV2 jailbroken. I can read movies off an external HD connected to the router and not have my MBP on at all.

The addition of NHL GameCenter Live is awesome for me. I recently purchased the season package, and had been streaming live from my iPad 2, which works pretty well. It's a battery killer, though, so this will be a huge improvement.

Thank you! How anyone can ignore the awesomeness of that team is beyond me. Its been a treat to watch Marty St. Louis since the day he got here. Stamkos is already a beast, and Hedman is developing rapidly. Plus the ownership (finally!) is world-class. I can't wait to see the "new" forum next week!

Anyway... the NHL addition is very welcomed!

Succeeded 3rd time for me. I had disabled Wi-Fi and connected the ATV2 to my router directly the 3rd time - not sure if that made a difference or it was just a coincidence.

If it's similar to the NHL's PS3 app, you can at least watch game highlights the next morning for free...did that all last season while on the treadmill. :) Stepped it up this year though, I subscribed to GCL this week.

The PS3 audio/video sync can get buggy sometimes...will see if ATV is better.

i have center ice package with direct tv...i am a huge hockey fan....
is the newer ATV2 better than the older one?
i heard 1080 will be comming out soon so i should wait to purchase
