Yes, you need to subscribe to GameCenter Live. I did so through the GameCenter Live web site, and not through the app, as the direct purchase gives you the option to pay $20 monthly instead of $160 in one payment. Once you've purchased your subscription, you go to the settings of the app and entire your log-in information, and the live game feeds then show up. Keep in mind that it is still subject to regional and national TV related black-outs.

When are we going to get PPV single game options for sports??!! I'll never drop $150-200 on a season subscription for any league, but I WILL happily pay $3-5 for a live stream of a single Wings or Tigers game. I don't have time to watch enough to make it worth it, but every now and again I can get a sitter and a six pack and it would be nice to watch the game at home (no cable TV).

I was a long time user of "reflections" theme until this new "shifting tiles". wow! This is what I've been wanting all along. I never thought a slideshow theme could make me this happy.

..might be late to the game with this but have any iOS5 users noticed that you can now airplay BBC iPlayer to the ATV? Or was this there already? It used to be sound only.

This is what I don't get about the sports leagues. If I'm paying a subscription for your league, I expect access to the teams I want when I want them. Bottom line: blackouts are fricken' stupid.

Not sure why I got voted down...
http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/airplay.html
This link says you can stream the iPhone 4S screen to the apple tv, but the apple tv update photo posted in the beginning of this thread only says stream the iPad 2; I was just asking for some clarification

You got voted down just because some people in these forums LIVE for that. Ignore the negativity.

And I'm right with you. iPhone 4S mirroring to AppleTV is something I'm definitely looking forward to.

Live NHL games!!!

I guess I'm one of the few who care, but that's awesome.
Go Wings!

I hate to break your excitement but I'm not sure if you're aware that you need to sign up and pay for this service. That would fine but your home team's games will be blocked. "Purpose" meet "defeated" :(

No App store... still?

Hockey? Really?

No live.twit.tv?
No NASCAR Raceview?
No Amazon Prime Video?

It's likely a welcome upgrade for current owners, but still leaves the AppleTV severely lacking compared to a mac mini...

for the price of a mac mini, you can buy an iPad 2 + Apple TV and use AirPlay. there's your AppStore.

. . .How about some live channels like comedy central? Let me watch colbert or jon stewart without catv subscription. (I know those two are in the store, but why watch yesterdays episode today? why not today's episode today?).

If you want Hulu for free (which includes Jon Stewart and Colbert), you can have it on your Apple TV (2) right now. Just jailbreak using Seasonpass (from Firecore), install XBMC, then install Hulu from the Bluecop Repository. Google around and you'll find step-by-step instructions for this (or look at some of my previous posts here at Macrumors, where I've posted as much).

I've been watching Hulu this way on my apple tv for the past couple of months. The best thing is there are NO COMMERCIALS!

sure, maybe apple will someday issue you an update that enables Hulu Plus (subscription only, with commercials). You can keep waiting for that. Or you can have regular Hulu, without commercials or subscription payment, right now. . . for free.

I'm a Detroit fan living in Connecticut...

The NHL thing is great.....but.....I've already paid for Center Ice on DTV. I'm not paying ANOTHER $160.......

About two years ago MLB.TV sold games a la carte at 99 cents a game. This was wonderful for when I was out of town on business. Sadly, they no longer offer that. It was great though.

How about TWIT.tv live streaming. I'm tired of using AirPlay.

Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing. They should really have a browser interface like PS3 to access things like Twit live streams.

At least if they allowed background airplay from iOS devices such that it won't have to be tied to it, that would be much better.

ive just started using mirroring with my Ipad 2, HBO go does not work. it just displays a messages saying hdmi is not supported on the tv. the quality of videos over airplay mirroring is laughable, stuttery, low res and do just stay 4:3 and dont fill the screen. the video is no even comparable to video over normal airplay with youtube. i cant believe i got rid of the jailbreak for this ****.

Are you on a faster 802.11n network? Maybe that's the issue with AirPlay mirroring? If that's not the issue then you might have just saved me $499. Was going to try out an iPad2 for iOS5 and especially Airplay.

How about the ABC or NBC TV show apps?

I have one ATV jailbroken and another one I bought recently for the bedroom which I haven't jailbroken because I want to test out the iPad 2 mirroring. Will hopefully test that out tonight. I was thinking it would be an easy way to watch ABC or NBC TV shows without messing with my EyeTV DVR system.
