It's perhaps the poorest content-to-dollar service in existence, so...

I only have it because I have Apple One, and I hate that I'm counted as a subscriber of this weak effort by Apple.

Turn the Tv/Movie store into a streaming library, then we'll talk.
yep it is so bad, i even cancelled the free year which i got with the iPhone, long before it ran out.

It is very easy to unsubscribe from a service when nothing else interests me after I watched whatever. I left Netflix, Disney+, & Amazon Prime because nothing was interesting and often there is just too much content.

I stayed with ??+ because I like many shows and I am also subscribed to other services through the app, Paramount+, amc+, BBC SELECT, and topic.

Churn is a real thing that everyone has to contend with. Apple just aren't willing to invest in the kind of content game that is happening right now. Look at Sony who appear to be buying Bungie - yes that belongs in the Activision-Blizzard thread but Apple missed out again.

Apple need to fix it so your sub ends at the end of your subscription period, not just immediately, if you happen to cancel ahead of time.

You can go down a rabbit hole to find something on Netflix, Hulu, and Prime and end up with something at least. 10 minutes browsing Apple TV and you know you have either seen it or don't want to see it before you exit out of the app and go back to Netflix, Hulu, and Prime. Disney+ isn't much better if you don't watch movies and tv shows for kids.
Well said, but Netflix suffered from this same problem when it only had "House of Cards" and "Orange is the New black" back in 2013 as basically their own 2 shows. They made have another, but it was just like Apple+ and Disney+. Now I can't even keep up with all the Netflix content that comes out basically daily now.

Understandable, as video streaming catalogues across different providers are very fragmented (incomplete), so people naturally want to shuffle them. They should try and become more like music streaming platforms, where we can pretty much find the same tracks.

If a streaming service want to be competitive, they need to make content not only targeted to one audience. I don’t want to sign up for a service that only serves to spread their propaganda type of content and anything outside it is (insert your qualifying adjective here).

Variety is what made TV shows good. And it is what is lacking in most streaming services today. All in all, YouTube still has the most variety of them all - not because of their original content, but because of the small content creators on the platform.
Maybe they need to make it so that AppleTV pivots to being a creators platform - let trusted content creators put stuff on and pay them for ad-free content? It certainly might take people away from YouTube.

there's not enough content to stay on. I get it free with Apple Music student but I've only watched See, Servant and I think one movie

I limit myself to two streaming services a month.

And when they come out with a new series I usually wait a month before I get a subscription that way I can binge watch some of it and not have to keep a subscription for more than a month or two.

Plus I have basic DIRECTV satellite with a DVR.

Ha, I was one of them! Watched Greyhound, The Beastie Boys and The Morning Show, and then cancelled it immediately.

I wait for all episodes of a few of my favourite shows to air, sign up, watch, cancel, rinse & repeat. I really like the service but I’m not going to permanently haemorrhage money into Apple‘s pocket just to then sit around twiddling my thumbs waiting for each episode of a season to be put up.

How exactly is subscribing to multiple streaming services better than cable? It's becoming just as expensive and maybe more of a pain. You also generally get a cable discount when getting internet through them. As much as I hate Comcast, their streaming app is great and ability to use nearly 100% of the service on a ROKU is awesome.

This seems like a good way to deal with the fragmentation of streaming services - subscribe to a new one every few months just for a month and binge watch all the good stuff.

"Morning Show", "For All Mankind", "Foundation" are great shows! The rest is so so and "Invasion" is garbage!

I think a lot of people jump to a different ship on a regular basis or subscribe in short blocks to watch specific shows or movies, as is highlighted in the article. The other achilles heel for Apple is their small library which is rather anemic compared to Hulu and Netflix.
Yes, that's what I do. Every 6 months or so I check in with Netflix for a month and then do the same with Amazon Prime. Just finished with both - Amazon better than Netflix. When my "free" time with Apple TV+ is up, I'll probably do the same with that.

That chart doesn't show anything but daily signups. Nothing showing longevity of subscribers.

I'm still subscribing to Apple TV+ through my Apple One subscription and I like it.

The Servant, The Shrink Next Door and Losing Alice are all excellent... but they're probably not the type of series that can catch with the mainstream. Lisey's Story was quite good too, and Foundation looks promising. So great content, but the catalog is too small.

Why would anyone stick around with any of the streaming services?

1) Sign up
2) Binge watch
3) Cancel
4) On to the next one
5) Repeat when enough of your favorites have new seasons/content
Every 6 months is an OK repeat time interval for me.

There's just too many streaming services with content fragmented across the internet to the point where it's just not worth the cost of trying something new. At this point, I'm close to whittling down my streaming service to just HBO Max. I have Amazon Prime, but never watch it, and I can find nothing of value on Netflix. My wife keeps bugging me to watch Ozark, so I keep it on the hook for now, but we still haven't started the series.

There's amazing things in the world just past the pixels...
Definitely watch Ozark first, then cancel :)

Obviously Apple, with its close to zero TV+ content refuses to see that Netflix and HBO offer full content for flatrate.
No renting, no purchases. I saw only one good thing on TV+, the Tehran. Ted Lasso is for different IQ...
