Tried it for free for the one year. I watched greyhound, and that was it. Very poor content and very American centric, so bye bye.

Mostly agree with this. But I did like the SF series. My biggest complaint is many items are "worthy" or educational in nature. I still have the opinion that ATV+ is the equivalent of Antique Brown Furniture (worthy but dull), as is e.g. Brahms' piano music. Sometimes ATV+ surprises me with its creativity (like the settings etc of the recent Macbeth even though the acting was a bit dire). Just my 2p worth.

Still, I'll probably try another month's worth in a year.

Perhaps part of the problem is the garbage UI. Try watching a series; the hoops you have to jump through just to find the show again, then the next episode if you didn't let the credits run to the end. They need a Continue Watching section and easy ways to see the whole list of episodes.

The only streaming service I keep on the regular is Disney....and only because I am a Star Wars geek. Apple TV has no show I want to watch repeatedly. Even the two shows I watch there are not quality repeats. So like many others I cancel once I am done. There is no incentive to stay for long.

Apple is proving a theory I have about streaming content creators. That theory is that they will make shows that otherwise would never survive unpaid services like public TV or The movie theaters. Apple has released some truly bad shows and keep them going when traditional broadcasting would have cut them lose or never made them.

I think the challenge for any of the streaming content creators is to keep enough good shows going throughout the year other wise people are going o re-up and cancel. Like the old days of not watching TV during rerun season.
Perhaps what Apple need to do instead is examine their Patreon style model of podcast funding which they recently announced and see if it can be applied to user generated Youtube type content? I'd certainly view AppleTV Plus type content more positively if they could include some Nebula content for example.

reading this reminded me ted lasso ended months ago and won't be back till fall so time to save some money.

It could be my setup, but image quality is really super poor on Apple TV+. I use a Windows 10 PC with a 4K screen and it looks like 720p at best. I tried Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Other services (Amazon Prime, Netflix) look great.

Wish these content distributors would focus on content distribution, and not content creation.

Exclusivity is a bug, not a feature.

Understandable, as video streaming catalogues across different providers are very fragmented (incomplete), so people naturally want to shuffle them. They should try and become more like music streaming platforms, where we can pretty much find the same tracks.
Or like cable? lol

Wait wait wait - this data comes from people that select into a service that assists them in budgeting?

I’d argue this is a biased data set that is going to skew heavily on users that cancel subscriptions. I’ll admit I am unable to see the linked WSJ article, so perhaps I am missing an important detail?

I really like the service, but theres no reason to keep streaming services active unless you are currently watching something. We cancel and re-sub services all the time

So personally for 4.99 a month, the value is definitely there. And Apple has only double downed in their investments with the program. I personally find it a nice added bonus to my apple one sub. I think what is working against them is that there are just too many options now and people need to pick and choose what they want and most people aren't going to swap from something they like to try something new. Also, I really enjoy apple tv+, but I feel like their shows are typically too safe...if that makes sense? Maybe try pushing the envelope a little more and not in just some areas or one side. From all sides.

It would have to be your setup. ATV+ compression seems better than all the others I subscribe to. Not that it can make up for the lack of content.

Honest question: Why haven't you at least checked it out? I'm not saying you'll love or even like it. But it's there for you to at least sample. You never know.
True. I scroll through the guide from time to time, and I've seen plenty of articles praising "Ted Lasso." Even so, none of it has interested me to the point that I stop to watch it or add it to my list. Same feeling about Peacock and Paramount+. There's just so much other stuff to watch.

I had it for the series "For All Mankind", tried to watch Ted Lasso and The Morning Show but just felt these were really not worth my time. When For All Mankind comes back I will once again be a subscriber.

I agree with the propaganda comment. I wanted to like a few series on TV+, but the more I watched, the deeper the propaganda went, so I just stopped.
I think one can make the same point in a less contentious way.
What *I* (and I think quite a few other people) want from content is lack of predictability. I don't want to see the show description and immediately know the stereotypical characters that will be on the show. I don't want to know that every storyline will address "issue of the month". I don't want to be able to guess, three minutes into a show, how it will resolve.
These have nothing to do with wanting the show to be "left wing" or wanting it to be "right wing"; they have to do with wanting it *not to be utterly predictable*.

That, after all, was what made Game of Thrones so fantastic. Not only did it have zero interest in today's politics and issue of the month, it was constantly unpredictable. Anyone could die at any time. The person you thought was evil could reveal a different side (evil, yes, but also very smart, or remarkably pious or whatever). That's what makes for great content.

Ted Lasso provided some of that in the first season (but not the second). And apart from that?
Something like For All Mankind could have been so original -- except that it was determined, oh so determined, to be "relevant". "Relevance" is the kiss of death for a show, it's what you trumpet when you have nothing original to say. Relevant is the realtors' way of saying parochial, unsurprising, narrow-minded, insular.
And if one were to describe Apple's programming in one word, it would be very very "relevant".

Yeah, this sounds like something terribly wrong somewhere in your chain.

Complain about aTV+ content all you like, but technically they are consistently superb, unlike Prime or Netflix (superb with some recent content, but that's a small fraction) or practically everyone else (like Peacock) which is just 1080p, no HDR, and often just stereo not even AC3.

Greyhound was decent. Felt a bit too rushed for the story it was trying to tell imo though. That convoy stretching out over a 10 hour mini series like BoB would have been a better story than cramming it into a few hour movie. Other than that only the For All Mankind show interested me. Didn't resub after my free year was up but will resub for sure when the new Masters of the Air miniseries comes out. Looking forward to that.

Could be as simple as polling people and making statistics based off of that, but I do agree that their data collection method here is of interest
FTA:
Antenna's data is aggregated from third-party apps that help users manage their email inboxes or stick to a monthly budget...

So, think "Mint" (and Mint-a-likes), "Hello", every "Gmail app that's not Google", anything marked "free",... all that stuff has always been suspect yet people fall for the trap every time. Morons whore themselves out for free stuff every day. Same goes for that local gas station/eatery/grocery "rewards/points" card for 3-cent/1.5-percent discount...

As Art Cashin said, pay with cold hard cash and you have real privacy... otherwise, you pay for convenience. Pay dearly.

Edit:
And hot spy garbage like this:

Seriously people.. you are the problem. And the product. Stop encouraging this mess or stop complaining when your $FooThing gets leaked tomorrow. ??‍♂️

NGL my plan is to subscribe to ATV Watch Macbeth, and then unsubscribe likely within 24 hours. For me it’s like PPV or buying a ticket to see a thing.
It's all spoken in Shakespearean and highly Scottish dialect. So get your mental translators tuned. Plus it's abridged. It was a tough watch, but I got through it.

Guess that makes sense.
What's FTA though? Could only find meanings that didn't match context like Free Trade Association and "For The Asians"
