The new design is just bad.

95% of the screen on my iPhone is an ad for a show I’ve already watched, whereas the most useful feature of the whole experience is only just visible.

Apple TV experience is just as bad.

Up Next on ATV is so great, and also means I could cancel
Netflix since it doesn’t appear in there at all.
Not the end of the world, just scroll down a little. Content ad are importa for service, you has a customers find new series/seasons maybe not so popular to be seen in mainstream.

why is everyone complaining all the gd time
i don't care about what some reddit user said, i care about apple updates lol's wrong when
I agree we need updates, but when a lot of people find them irritating, Apple needs to listen. It's much like the slideshow that appears in Photos, where photos are mixed with random music from Apple Music (which often makes no sense at all). There's no way to disable it and stop it happening. Despite many complaints, Apple is not listening. I'd like to have more control over what happens with the software on MY computer (or device) which I purchased with MY money.

There should be a Legacy option, where we can turn features off and on if we want to. I don't care if it takes up more drive space, I want to be able to have, or not have, features which Apple gives to me, after all we are all customers who make the company what it is, and without us, there is no Apple.

If there is an option to buy the series for keeps via Apple, that will be the option presented to me, rather than to simply watch for free on demand.
Hmm...Apple always shows me the free option(s). I don't know about the specific apps you're talking about, but it is up to the app to expose their catalog to the global AppleTV search. Netflix, for example, does not.

YouTube TV also went through some “update” and now that layout is almost unusable.

First world problems. You are not going to please everyone. And there are a good group of people that always like to whinge. Much more going on in the world at the moment other than your I don’t like it rants. Seriously get a grip people.
First World Problems. Most of this site is devoted to "First World Problems", and I suggest, with all due respect, that if you don't like it, don't read it.

I have a bunch of medical bills, would you prefer I bitch about that on MacRumors??

Also near (but not at!) the end of the video, it shrinks what I’m watching to a tiny window to show me an enormous still of the next episode. If I try to maximize the video I’m trying to watch, it pauses. Unpausing shrinks it again. Completely broken and extremely ***** frustrating.

How did this make it out of testing? It’s clear that pushing people to “engage” more was far more important than a good user experience. This is the kind of crap I expect from a company like facebook or comcast.

I think everyone is overreacting. The up next queue sits at the exact same spot it always has on the screen. Instead of seeing a giant picture of the show/movie you are watching it’s just a picture of another show/movie you might like. It’s the exact same layout if you move over into the originals tab. These two tabs now share feature parity. This has not fundamentally changed how the up next queue works. Go buy a chrome cast, fire tv cube, or Roku if you are unhappy.
No, not really at all. Not only is the giant ad on top, but scrolling down to up next causes the up next row to scroll full vertical screen from bottom to top (Giant Ad on the bottom now) when you want to use it, and it’s an UI nightmare, especially on a large screen TV when your entire visual focus has to change dramatically like that. Many of us use Apple TV because of how convenient the up next row was. Saying not to complain is stupid. Apples needs to fix this.

Santa brought me a much needed Apple TV 4K upgrade.. Which I updated as soon as I opened it. It's so frustrating. When I finish watching something and want to switch to something like Prime, it goes to this stupid screen. I miss it going to the home screen where all my apps are located. I thought I was missing something because I couldn't find a way to change it. I understand it only takes 1 more click, but after 6 years of using my old one, it's a habit that's gonna be hard to re-train.

its still configurable and you can still go the Home Screen.

No auto playing preview video or audio on my Roku's Apple TV+ app.

Just checked the TV app (version 1.2.5.7) on my Mac and it's got the same layout where the "Up Next" is at the top of the Watch Now tab. There's also no auto playing preview video or audio.
TV app on Apple TV box has auto playback for audio and video (by default)

I don't use the TV app. Set it to show only the apps on Home. But... it sounds like yet another example of programmers and designers changing things and not actually using them.

Related. They completely destroyed the Music app. Half the time I can't scroll forward for songs, the info for the bitrate on lossless is gone (useful for me because via Siri you don't always get Lossless) and just confusing in my mind where the options are off to the right. It worked great before, and now it is just constant frustration. Hope someone at Apple is listening, because, again, I am convinced the designers don't even use the app regularly themselves its so frustrating.

I don't ever use the TV App unless I'm watching an Apple TV show. 🤷‍♂️
I made what has apparently become the mistake of buying several of my favorite tv show complete seasons from Apple. So now I have to use the Apple TV app and have it berate me constantly to watch apple tv+.

Apple now has the same problem Netflix and Hulu etc have. The people who do the programming probably do use it. But they’re paid by people for whom the experience is the lowest priority. They’re ordered to increase apple tv+ revenue at any cost.

I recently bought a new tv that has google built into it.. I know it’s a privacy nightmare but wow is it nice have a up next with integrated apps..

Wish apple would have been able to pull this off years ago with Netflix. Now I’m questioning if I even need an Apple TV for anything other than home automation.

Revenue testing says it's a success! Apple doesn't care about the user experience just how it can pad their bottom line.

My problem is every time there is an update it messes up my remote for the AppleTV. It doesn't function properly and is very frustrating. Doing all the things Apple suggests does nothing to fix it... eventually, it starts working again, but with this update, it doesn't seem to be fixing itself.

Anyone else experiences this? Is there some solution to it?

My biggest issue with the TV app is the heavy advertising of Apple TV plus.

I get it, apple owns the service and has a right to do this, but the tv app was meant to be a way to view content from all services, with no one service getting more coverage.

I have actually stopped using it more recently and only use it for up next, it’s just too cluttered and hard to find stuff. What would be useful as well is a toggle so it only shows content you are subscribed to and not a link to buy it on iTunes.

The whole app needs a redesign, it’s a mess.

I’m also disappointed in the 16.2 version of the TV app. When I go to the TV app, my primary intention is to watch something I’ve queued up or to search for something I want to watch. My secondary intention is to browse.

With the previous app, its design matched my intentions perfectly. First, I started with my Up Next content prominently at top and then when I felt like browsing or couldn’t find anything interesting in my Up Next I could simply swipe down and explore promoted and suggested content. That design made great sense to me and felt like Apple design.

The new design feels like Google/Amazon/Roku design which is less focused on the user experience and more focused on advertising and promotion. By putting promotional content at the top, it changes the focus of the TV app to be on promoting content that may or may not be relevant to the user. Additionally, it now takes two swipes to get to your Up Next selections which adds friction and mitigates one of the TV app’s best features which was that it brought together your shows from (almost) all streaming apps.

I hope Apple will either revert/change/improve this design or give us the ability to customize it. I’ve found myself returning to my old behavior which is to just launch the streaming app that I know has the content I want to watch at that moment which is sad because the previous TV app was so great at being a one-stop-shop.
