Has Apple heard of real-time updates?

No, Apple is not a real Internet company. Amazon and Google are, and they don't go offline for one third of a day just because they push updates to their servers. I think that Amazon would be long out of business if they'd have to take their store offline for every new product that enters their database...

Nav bars look blurry as hell on the iPad. They also don't match anything else on the site.

Yeah, more than 90% of all Internet users - i.e. IE + Firefox users combined - won't see it. You really only see those effects in the niche browsers Safari and Chrome.

If they'd use Flash, almost everybody could enjoy the new design. That's what you get for ignoring de facto standards...

Are you being serious?

Am I the only one?

Am I the only one who sees this as potentially a hint at the next round of Mac updates (or even the next iPad)? Perhaps after 8 (yes, EIGHT!) years of using the light "natural aluminum" look, Apple is thinking of changing the cases to a darker brushed aluminum finish? Kinda like the Limited Edition CoolerMaster Cosmos that was out:

Or perhaps it will be an optional color for the eventually-upcoming Sandy Bridge refreshes? Basically have your "normal" light gray aluminum and dark gray aluminum as options? A sort of gunmetal gray, perhaps?

Seems to make SOME sense to me! :D

It degrades acceptably in IE6. You just don't get the 'springy' animations. Actually, this is not a bad thing, as I think they're just an irritating distraction.

I agree. The animations look like Baby's First jQuery. I wouldn't have expected something so amateurish from Apple.

In an HTML5 browser, the search bar stretches out when you click it. Looks pretty good.

Yeah, it's fine when the field is selected, but it looks horrible and out of place otherwise.

not exactly

Ah nice! The header is all CSS3, no images.

Well, no images are being used however they are there, being loaded. Makes sense because Apple needs to have a website showing good even in IE, but come on, a conditional stylesheet for webkit users with less images would be perfect and fast.

it's definitely not all images.

they also have a series of png files in there.

I thought so too. Maybe a way to differentiate the MBP line a bit from AIR....

I like Chrome - it's got legs compared to every other browser I've tried, HTML5 looks great in it, and I love the minimalist interface.

New Apple site changes look great btw..!

Search field could do with some work still!

This.

IMO, it should have a static white background. It just doesn't stand out enough and there's too much going on when you click it. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you have to do it.

Also, side rant: I really loathed the old "splash screen" they had on the homepage, like when they released the new MBA and when the Beatles came to iTunes. I want to use the site when I go to it, not wait.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A400 Safari/6531.22.7)

I feel like this is a step backwards for apple. At the turn of the century, apple introduced the glossy aqua look. It was new, exciting, pretty enough to lick.... Back then. Nowadays, the glossy theme is used by cheap design studios for as-seen-on-tv products... It's out of date. When apple introduced leopard, gone were the immature glossy bars, replaced by subtle and mature grey gradients. More than that, it LOOKED better, and apples website had one of the best control bars because it used this theme. Now, it's aqua all over again, but for extra "cheapness" it's grey. Reminds me of vista.

Just my .02

Whenever Apple showcases a new UI idea, someone always feels like it's a step backwards.

It's good to know, I'm not the only one bored.:D

tzzzzzzzzzzzzzz:)

Doesn't display right in Safari of all things.

Bar is black, words supposedly to be inside bar inside bar are aligned 2 lines down.

And yes, tone in tone for search field is a snafu IMO

Needs some work:)

Following the Retina ipad discussion:

I won't be buying anything from the Apple site until they fix it all to my liking:)

If I remember correctly, that only happened the first time, and not any longer. Well, if you didn't delete the cookie, that is.

for a company that prides itself in beautiful products, Apple's website sure still looks like a piece of s***

There's also what looks like a little paper or canvas texture between the 10 Billion apps image and the top of the browser window behind the new, darker, navigation bar.

That texture was there before the update. I specifically remember seeing it after the Beatles announcement.
