False. For many interface/design enthusiasts such as myself, this is field day. A nice break from iOSRumors.

=:~)

You need to get out more. So this pointless update takes Apple's web team 2 or 3 hours? They need people. As someone else mentioned, they need to start doing live updates. Taking the whole thing down is pretty pathetic.

I would wager Apple does it on purpose. Engadget gets flooded with emails every time it happens, and there's an entire website dedicated to alerting you about outages (http://yaasc.com/).

It's a little strange to see so much emotions about Web Site Design especially considering how small the changes really are. Given that Apple updates it's web site content (i.e. adds new products) just twice a year, who really cares? There is not need to spend much time there anyways.

It indicates UI changes to your operating system(s), this has some tradition.
If the little apple changes, for example, like it did now, expect the same
apple symbol on your desktop soon.

Someone fails to understand that :apple: intentionally moved away from the glossy stuff because vista (and everybody else and their dog) copied aqua and apple is always 3 steps ahead of everybody else in ui design, thus it is a step backwards to go back to the glossy design, and it makes it cheap to make it dark like vista. In fact, the new nav bar looks almost exactly like my old vista desktop.

It just confuses me that apple would release what appeared to be an experimental ui with itunes that I think makes the product look more mature and professional, only to ditch that look and go with Vista-esque bells and whistles.

So you are saying Apple is copying the 2006 Vista.

Obviously you haven't seen OS X in year 2000.

Ok, I'm not that enthused. The mac page is kinda like, meh to me. It's not bad, it's not something that has me excited either.

It's kinda stupid that you have to have the exact right browser to see it too (I'm on Firefox, had to open Safari to see what people were talking about).

But the home page for Apple... UGH! That top bar being clear bleeding out over some of the info boxes below it (like Watch the new iPad TV Ad and the mac store now open), looks really messy. It doesn't look like it was intentional or neat. It looks like some one did a bad job of web editing and didn't check to make sure it displayed properly in all browsers (I'm sure that's not the case since that is apple's own browser it's displaying like that. And that's the only reason I don't think it was accidental).

Shut up. I'm perfectly fine. Just because you think this update is pointless, doesn't mean everyone else does. I highly doubt anyone panicked during the downtime period. Not a big deal if the majority of people are happy with the end result.

Not particularly crazy about the spring-loaded starts and stops on the Mac and iPod landing pages. A little on the cute side. But I suppose that's just Apple trying to showcase HTML5 enhancements however they can.

I like :)

Not sure why people are bitching about 'gloss'. Its just a split-color.

Look at it in detail. It uses a solid grey color with a white layer overlaying the top half with around 25% visibility.

Vista did the same, then added a fade to white on the upper layer...it looked considerably different.

Yeah, I agree, I'm not a big fan of that. Looks a bit amateurish. There's a more elegant way to do it.

Yep, looks fresh.

Snow Leopard introduced some blacks and some iLife apps did subsequently. Lion is going to look sick. :apple:

Um, no, it's brilliant. It creates anticipation and expectations and gets people talking about "The Store is down!!!!!!".
