Hmm. Apple ships a massive UI overhaul for their entire platform, and then the head of UI at Apple leaves the company 2 months later. Things are not copasetic in Apple land.

I'm sure there are a lot of competing voices inside Apple at all times...what are the odds that someone who is more critical of the new UI takes the helm?

Yes but iOS 26 was never that bad. Its overblown reaction by Apple fans just like with iOS 7. People hate new things.
I don't hate new things, I love them! I do hate when I can't read the screen on my $2000 iPhone though because some overpaid designer thought clear was cool but didn't have a clue how to make it readable.

I've been hoping they get rid of the abomination that is the visual stye of OS26 from all the platforms. It is not just horrendous from a purely visual aesthetic, but from a usability standpoint, and goes so far to be detrimental in a fundamental way as it is a computationally taxing style. There is absolutely no excuse for any of that. It goes against EVERYTHING about design and then some. I wish him well, but will not be missed.

The guy taking over has been at Apple since 1999. We’ll see how much changes. I would be very surprised if Liquid Glass is abandoned (no matter how much the Apple pundit/podcast class hates it). More likely it will continue to be refined.

Man, poor Liquid Glass. Even when it's improved, people still complain about the first release. Silly noise.

As for the staff departures... to Meta? Really? Selling one's soul... for money. Sad. Good riddance.

Won't be abandoned. The complainers are not technically savvy enough to understand what it truly is... a physics experiment. So yes, it will continue to be refined. It's in great shape today.

Companies when they get ex-Apple employees
“HA HA HA! We got them! We win!”

Companies after they see their work
“What IS this? I thought you were going to create something iconic and something consumers would love! THIS is why we paid you?”
“Hey, no one FORCED you to pay me. :) And, thanks for the bonus, too!”
