Don't see it happening. Any excess battery life will likely go towards powering additional features, so long as you can still get 1 full day of use out of it.

This is true. Though disappointing. As one of the main features I use a smart watch or health tracker is to check my sleep and activity. Though I assume most people charge it when they sleep. I’m hoping they stretch to two days eventually. As a one day battery life becomes something extra that I need to charge daily.

Unless you are dead set on wearing your watch as close to 24 hours each day as possible, other users here have pointed out the possibility of charging your watch in between activities such as bathing or washing up. An hour on the charger should be more than enough to get it back up to full, so you could say, charge it after work and before sleep (say between 8-9 pm), allowing you to wear it to bed for sleep-tracking.

One oddity I have noticed at https://www.apple.com/uk/watch/cellular is that, although "there are two separate models for Apple Watch Series 4", "They have been optimised for use in the country of purchase". How can a given model sold across multiple countries be optimised for each country?
Lack of optimisation is one thing but lack of functionality is more serious. Model A2007 (40mm) and Model A2008 (44mm) are sold in both China and Hong Kong, yet there is a note against the latter country stating, "This product has been optimised for use in Hong Kong and will not work in mainland China." How can this be the case if they have the same model number?

really interesting find. thanks for pointing it out.
i have never seen that phrase used before in any apple product.

but the China models do have 3 bands that the Hong Kong model doesn't have.
  • 39 (TD 1900)
  • 40 (TD 2300)
  • 41 (TD 2500)
and all of those 3 TD bands are critically important for LTE coverage in China.
which could be meant to mean some functionality is lost and therefore not optimized to take advantage of China's available bands.

usually apple just leaves the specs as they are, leaving the users who need to be cautious.
this time apple is pointing it out very clearly that the product can't be used in mainland china.

i also wonder if apple is tip-toeing around the fact that no apple watch is able to roam internationally yet.
and China is very sensitive when Hong Kong is mentioned as any way not an integral part of 1 nation China.
and therefore, explaining the difference between the China model and the Hong Kong model in this way gets apple free from China criticism that China and Hong Kong are one country.
