Hmm... just did a comparison overlay of the images on Apple's website. If they're all to scale, the 40mm Series 4 Apple Watch is now as tall as the 42mm Series 3 and a lot wider - it's more square and the corners have a larger radius.

That's going to be BAD NEWS for people with small wrists. I don't think my wife will want to upgrade her 38mm Watch now. FFS... this was a HUGE selling point of the Apple Watch 38mm.

I hope they're not to scale - another post here with overlays from the shop drawings suggest Apple's website images aren't to scale. I think I'll ditch the pre-order and wait for the hands-on reviews/comparisons first.

Well ... I stand corrected. The new watch is indeed wider. It's kind of ballooned or swollen compared to the original -- rounded if you will. Not sure I like that. And I'm not sure how they managed to make the original bands compatible. I'm very eager to see the new schematics and get the exact dimensions.

Marketing Specs present this:

44: 44Hx38W
40: 40Hx34W

42: 42.5Hx36.4W
38: 38.6Hx33.3W

Not sure if this will help. I have Apple 3 watch. 2 weeks ago I felt tired and a bit dizzy. I rested a couple of hours in bed when my watched sent me a message that read something like this “you have been resting for a long while yet your heart rate is 41. You may want to get in touch with your doctor”.
I called, the nurse sent an ambulance. The emergency room doctors could not believe that my watch warned me. I had an operation the next morning which included a pacer. The upper part of my heart had slowed the blood flow to the bottom part.

I sent an email to Tim Cook to thank him. He replied a couple of hours later (on a Sunday) wishing me well and letting me know that stories like mine keeps

Keeps?

The end of your story seemed to get cut off somehow.

Very lucky you got notification and called the doctor and ambulance was sent. Hoping you remain in good health from here on out.

Also update your emergency contacts inclusive of loved ones ... just in case!!

Awesome, pretty much what I was hoping for. I think it's finally time to retire my Series 0. :)

I’ve HAMMERED my series 0 and 2 aluminum watches and no damage has occurred. I’m a large bacon and continually smack it into things. Forget to take it off. Etc. no problem. I think I probably have some nearly microscopic scratches - one or two- but I’m rough on it. Iirc the ion x is more shatter resistant and he sapphire is more scratch resistant
Drat. Can you point out where that's listed? I've been looking and can't find the information. :(

I'd been planning to get an Edition, but now that that's nixed, it looks like I'll have to go stainless again. I've bumped my watch against things often enough to know that it'd scratch with Ion-X, but the sapphire crystal remains unblemished. Sadly, the case is scratched up a bit -- I need to polish it to remove the scratches, but I may just trade it in instead.

Oh well. At least if I do go stainless again, my Milanese Loop won't look out of place, but an Edition would have looked pristine for far longer. Unless I go space gray. Decisions, decisions.

Thanks for the update much welcomed!

What I’m not seeing is any similar reports from FitBit device owners ever being highlighted in the news.

I like my Apple Watch (like - not love it). I think some features are fantastic (mac unlock, heart rate monitor) and have worn them since the S0 - but 499+ (say 540 for the larger) for a non-sapphire watch that will also be obsolete in a year or two - is too high an opportunity cost - too steep to justify the price IMO.

Apple needs some better competition in this space for their own good.

Nobody else is interested in the "smartwatch for the price of a smartphone" space

six hours would have to be good for any Apple watch user..

Fall detection.... These kind of convenient features.. Apple watch doesn't need to tel you that... Your not gonna look at your watch when you do fall.. so your gonna miss it anyway. You can see it after, but by them your already in pain.

Question...
These new clock faces look as though they could easily fit on the 'old' watches... maybe apart from the one with 1 trillion complications.. but there is no reason the Nike, water, fire faces couldn't work on the old watches egh?? but will Apple let us have them?

I still cant believe apple don't let devs make up watch faces. Apples are bland, dissfunctional and boring. but still, i want access to them on my S3.

Thoughts?

If by magic. They are now live !

If verizon increases prices too much I might consider dropping my iphone and getting the watch with lte, hooking it to my husband’s iphone. I wonder if anyone else does that and if it works.
So you will share the same number with him?

Well, it being a supported feature is a good start...

Try getting "Beddit" - it's a bluetooth strap that goes under the sheets, and it can do a lot of cool stuff. Even works with 2 people in the bed, measures respirations per minute, knows if you are moving, measures temp etc. App is pretty good - Apple bought them out, but see if you can still get it.

As for Watch doing sleep monitoring, it is doable, but there are a few battery issues. There are also "app only" solutions on iOS. Beddit is pretty good - just get that.

And I'm not sure how they managed to make the original bands compatible.

The band connection point is pretty simple, and if the top/bottom are the same or wider, there's no engineering reason why they couldn't implement the same connector, at least in terms of "physical" compatibility - I suppose there's something to be said for the aesthetic consideration of the band-to-watch width ratio, i.e., if the watch really is wider, and the bands are the same width, they'll look skinnier, and/or the watch will look more out of proportion[?]

I've talked to a few friends since the event, and people who didn't buy many (if any) bands, are talking about stepping down the 40mm from a 42mm, to be honest, the wife and I are thinking the same thing, don't really want a physically bigger watch, and the 40mm has more display than the current 42mm. We're not into too much for bands, maybe 6 sports, a few sets of lugs with non-Apple Watch bands, a couple of Monowear nylons.

If this is a trend, there's going to be some great deals on 42/44mm bands :)

The price went up all over the world in every country.
Is there any comparison on the price increase worldwide, just a link?

If the future tariffs had any impact then why didn't they increase the prices of the iPhones? The Cellular version being $100 more than the last model (and the current GPS model) is the part that irritates me. I'm still buying one, but ugh.
phones are currently excluded in the product lists of tariffed Chinese imports to USA. So are laptops and tablets. For now.

That is why apple called out specifically, airpods, apple watch, pencil of call things, dongles, etc., these items were not in the current exclusion list. I know, there is really no rhyme or reason to this stuff, but Cook seems to have lunch/dinner with the president slightly more than other CEO's.

Since I don't have someone to help me tonight (my significant other has gone to bed), I will order my iPhone Xs Max on Verizon's website first then jump over to Apple's website and get my Watch Series 4. Or, do you all think I could do both at the same time. Watch Series 4 might be more of a hot seller than the iPhone Xs Max. So then I should order it first? I'm so confused!!!

Aye, I'm thinking of downsizing and selling my existing straps.

!
It would be nice if you could just have your own background behind some simple dials....the possibilities for customisation would be endless. Unless there might be some copyright issues.

I am sooo excited! My husband and I have been happy wearers of our Series 0 watches and this is the upgrade I have been waiting for.

I just ordered him the Series 4 GPS, 44mm Space Gray Aluminum Case with Black Sport Loop, set to deliver
Oct 12 - Oct 19. What is the shipping date for anyone who preordered at midnight?!

Nothing is free, someone will have to pay for it at some point.

I was waiting for someone to point that out, generally via a higher tax rate, anyway any comment or reaction to the Verge article which reports the Watch is only FDA certified, not approved and not recommended for people with certain types of heart issues.

Did Apple claim it was approved in the keynote?
