is there any data (either from Apple, or an independent source, or ideally both) on how accurate & precise the SpO2 readings are (or are not)? It's good to be skeptical, but let's not make judgements (in either direction) before learning what the facts are.
I’m an MD. I don’t need to learn “the facts” as you call them.

Where's the innovation in regards to energy consumption and production?
Competition is sparse, but at least one company is devoted to this, look here for example:
"PowerWatch is equipped with a MATRIX-powered thermoelectric engine that is one-of-a-kind. It allows PowerWatch to be powered by the body heat of its wearer."

Now, that is just cool, and something Apple could develop further for their next series of watches.

yes, but if multiple other companies follow suit and also remove 10's of thousands of cars from roads, then all that starts to add up to a significant, meaningful impact. Maybe you can argue that Apple could or should do more, but at least they appear to be stepping up, and generally they seem to be at the forefront of environmental consciousness and responsibility amongst large corporations.

I would accept it if say, they reduced the price of the product by how much they charge for an official usb charger.
How come they can't do that if they are saving money not including it in the box?

But OF COURSE they won't do that, because then they wouldn't save money... which is the REAL reason they aren't including the charger.

Most people upgrading will sell the watch when upgrading WITH the charger. So that just means we are all going to have to order another one off Amazon, completely defeating the point.

So, the ceramic edition has gone in S6, replaced in the lineup by the graphite SS. The Ti edition lives to fight another day, but curiously it now gets the smaller 40mm option also.

Nintendo started doing the same thing with the DS. It IS good for the environment whether you like it or not.

I think we have 3 of these charging cables about the house so count me among those who would never use them again. Honestly we're the same way with the stupid earbuds that come with phones. I probably have a dozen of those in a drawer, probably more.

Ooft, must admit I'd quite like that blood oxygen monitoring. That said, I get enough health anxiety from wearables (I spent many months googling whether having a heart rate often in the 40s but not being an athlete means I could drop dead at any moment) so maybe ignorance is bliss :) I know the cardiologist Youtuber "medlife crisis" is a bit concerned about overdiagnosis caused by wearables.

The 2.5x brightness sounds good in theory, but will it be just like my iPhone when the one place I could use the brightness will cause the brightness to throttle due to heat?

They charge £30 for a charger on their store... have they reduced the price of the Apple Watch by £30? No.

Do you think if it was JUST for saving the environment they would pass that saving on?
£30 might not sound like much, but multiply that by millions of devices and Apple have just boosted their sales across all devices (inevitably this will happen with their other products) and they will be making literally £100m+.

That's excluding the fact a huge number of people buying this device will likely pick up a charge from their store.

Yes. A pulse oximeter, which you can buy online, is almost certainly going to be more accurate. But you won't always have it with you, whereas the watch is always on your wrist. If the watch is accurate enough to detect a general pattern (e.g. falling O2 sat) that would then lead you to confirm with a pulse oximeter, that's a huge win. A measurement doesn't always have to be perfectly accurate to be helpful; sometimes frequency is more important for screening/monitoring.

It seems that you cannot get the 6 with an aluminum case with cellular anymore. Can anyone confirm that?

Really wanted the blue, but it looks weird with the stainless band I have for when I get formal....figured I'd trade in my series 4 for $140 bucks...silver aluminum it is.

In the Covid era, it's one of the most important metrics to track. If you get Covid and your O2 sat starts dropping, you need to seek medical attention right away. It could help you to avoid a ventilator and a very bad outcome.

Thank you. I initially understood it as only being for studies the organizations were doing.

Being on your wrist and in motion are two reasons why it won’t detect much of anything valid, never mind a consistent pattern that’ll trigger any medical intervention.

I assume you’re talking about COVID when you say “screening/monitoring”. Please don’t expect or rely on that.

I am tempted. It would be nice if it would send an alert if you have Covid with its sensors. You could be exercising with Fitness Plus on your Apple TV or playing a game in Apple Arcade and have a message pop up to tell you that you are one of the infected.

Yes, I think so -- the new sleep tracking capabilities are part of WatchOS 7, so not hardware-based. As long as your AW can run WatchOS 7 you should be able to use the sleep tracking function.
So before watch os7. There was no way to do it on the watch? Hmm why did I think the watch could already do this.

The fact that they spun the lack of a power adapter as an “environmentally positive” thing is just infuriating! The reality is that Apple removed an essential accessory from the box so they could save on costs and charge you extra to buy it separately. Yet they lie to your face and tell you it’s because it’s “good for the environment.” Such bullcrap. The audacity! Just be honest to your customers.

To me. they could have said the lack of power adapter allows us to low the price by $5 or $10. I think everyone would be happy with that.

After looking at the store I'm confused about your complaint. I thought they had omitted the charger altogether. I see that they include the magnetic piece for the watch (or which I own 3 already) not not the wall piece.

I was ok with them omitting all of it. Geez between existing Apple chargers, 3rd party chargers, we probably have 20 chargers. No doubt it's a lifetime supply of them unless standards change.

There is definitely not a potential savings of the magnitude that you claim.
