Accurate. Was hoping for 2 features... non intrusive phone calls, and non intrusive volume HUD. Apparently that was a big ask.

Not sure what you mean by non intrusive phone calls, but there is a new feature that sends unrecognized numbers to voice mail. I've been using Do Not Disturb for this, but this is better because it only affects calls. And there is a new volume control. Take some time to look at Apple's iOS 13 preview page and you might find other features they didn't have time to announce.

Dark mode will be awesome, getting tired of being in smart invert and having dark mode 3rd party apps turn to blinding white. Otherwise it seems like a very lackluster update. No multi user profiles at least? I'm still hoping on the hardware side Apple implements a better medium to low light camera than the garbage they are using currently otherwise I'm really thinking about jumping ship. I'm just bummed that my kids early years will be defined by crappy photos.

You’ve never gotten a call you didn’t want to answer and didn’t want to send to voicemail so you are locked on the call until it ends? Happens to me all the time. I know this isn’t just me that wants this feature.

Hopefully dark mode includes a setting to automatically switch at night like TV OS. I'm still not sure how that option didn't make it to Mac OS last year.

totally agree. i "like" dark mode but tire of it quickly i find. the perfect balance would be an auto-switching mode based on time of day or ambient light at the time the device was turned on from sleep at the discretion of the user.

Ugh. I just want an app drawer and control over my icons. Maybe next year when the G5 laptop comes out.

I get 5-10 spam calls a day, and only rarely does the caller leave a voice mail. It's just not worth their while. Do you want calls that aren't from a recognized caller not to go to voice mail, but to be terminated quickly? My only problem with that is that some of them may be important and there'd be no other way to leave a message. However, I might pay extra for a feature that uses AI to tie spam callers up by giving nonsensical answers to their questions. :)

with android or some

when you received a call it will be ringing on top of your screen with a small banner alert and not occupying the full screen

you can even minimized it to have it just run in the background

Interesting that the iPad 4, which uses the A8, gets support for iPad OS, but the older iPod touch and the iPhone 6 don't get iOS 13. I wonder if the divergence between the operating systems is now larger? Or maybe they are using the name change as a way to drop support for those older phones without looking inconsistent.

Has it been announced which phones will not be eligible for this upgrade? I’m holding on to my iPhone 6s + until it no longer works, and I’d like to use dark mode if possible.

Removing my previous reply. MacRumors' article incorrectly leaves 6S off the list of compatible devices, but the Apple graphic they included confirms 6S still good to go.

I've never used a swipe keyboard, solely because I recall reading if a 3rd party keyboard is used they can track every character you type...forget that!

I'll give this one a go.
As someone who uses swipe functionality every day, once you get the hang of it, youll never want to lose it. It is absolutely terrific when typing on a flat desk, or when using one hand. Happy to see this on iOS!

Can easily see a ton of people utilizing dark mode in movie theaters, lol.

Glad this is being added as option.

Have we seen all that will be delivered to the new iOS? Dark Mode is needed. But really, customizable is really lacking. This new iOS is NOT progressive or intuitive. Apple is lacking truly innovative software. This is not a .dot update... this was supposed to be huge. Very soft landing. Almost boring.

There was nothing again about choosing own default apps, right? I mean, that’s a big deal, and I really want that. Also, I am really bored with the “grid layout” on the home screen. I don’t know what else it could look like, but 13 generations into this OS, and the springboard is still the same.

Those on the beta and anyone else who knows-please tell me if the volume indicator was updated. There were a number of rumors that it would be, but I haven’t heard whether or not it ever was. Thanks

It's an eye thing, you know not being blinded when viewing your device in the dark. My wife will also appreciate it as I won't be keeping her awake at night. Battery improvements will be nice, although I'm sure just minimal and icing on the cake. But really getting rid of the blindingly bright UI will be nice, just hope that devs play nice and update their apps as well.

Exactly, and possibly much healthier. There have been a fair number of studies in recent years about potential eye and brain damage as the result of the direct light source inches from our faces.

This is so unfortunate. I'm glad this company is so bored and filled with money that this feature even warrants advertising dollars.

Seriously? Lots of us have been asking for this feature for a very long time. If you are in the crowd that wants dark mode, it is a marquee feature. It's also a challenging feature to add, as it requires a system-wide redesign and technical hooks to make sure every screen component called fits with the user's selection. It won't be everyone's cup of tea (there's a reason Apple started with a light theme), but it absolutely warrants attention.

I do like the Dark Mode and it looks good. The other upcoming change I will have to reserve opinion until I get a chance to try it out.
