What is the over/under on number of "Its already in Android" comments we are going to see in this thread?

There will probably be at least as many as the"big deal.My N95 does all that"comments when the first iPhone came out.

WOW! Tim Cook said it so it must be true... Seems he inherited Steves RDF!

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, says they will continue with their philosophy multiple times during the keynote.....of course I'd venture to say its true.....

Unless of course he ceases to be CEO - I don't really understand your jab?

looks like devs should consider updating their apps soon, they will no longer look pleasant on the eye next to that new UI. less buttons more words

What was so mind blowing in OS X Mavericks? the fact that they finally added decent multi monitor support? Like us in windows have had since 2001 with Win XP? Or the new and life altering Finder Tags? Because that's basically the entirety of the new upgraded OS X. Hopefully they only charge 9.99 for it. OS X 10.7 was 29.99, OS X 10.8 was 19.99, so OS X 10.9 should be 9.99. And that's still too much for what little new features there are.

True,Windows has had several of these features for sometime but the likelihood is that it will work consistently and correctly in OSX Mavericks. If you're going to do a job right, sometimes you've just got to wait a little longer for the quality option to come along.

I'm with you on this, a few others I'm not sure on, but keep thinking they are only icons.

The actual OS though looks fantastic!

I'm also with you on this. The actual OS looks great, the 'layering' and translucency concepts seems to carry a lot of potential for great UI enhancements in the future, as do the 'parallax'-effect demoed with the home screen.

The icons however are disgusting, at least at first glance. The white backgrounded Safari one is probably the worst, and the Music one seemed pretty horrible at first but when it appeared magnified in the big presentation screen of the Moscone Center it actually looked a bit better. Having said that, I hope a hands-on look at them helps change my mind about this.

I realize that liking/disliking an icon is mainly a question of taste/opinion and that even if I really dislike one lots of people will still love it.
However, being a designer I really feel that these new Apple ones look like drafts, or quick mockups done by someone who never ever designed an icon in their lives (I'm specially looking at you, you ugly stylised safari compass).

This isn't "Android Jelly Bean stuff"......these are logical tasks/features implemented in different ways by two different OSes on their own update/design timetables.

Apple seems to implement and design as if they are the only tech company out there. It doesn't matter what another company has done.

This obsession with being "first" is really overdone....

Personally, I prefer said features on an Apple device, in iOS - so I wait for Apple to give me their interpretation/implementation. If I don't like Apple's interpretation/timetable, I move to something else.

Its hilarious how many people seemingly cling to new releases, claiming "iOS # better impress me or I'm gone" or "I'll switch back to iOS if I get x, x, and x."

Be honest with yourself, you don't like iOS - move on. We have many wonderful options in the mobile tech industry!
Regardless of the truth in your post, first is still first in the eyes of the consumer. Whoever gets the new feature out first is an innovator. Everyone who follows is a copy cat, regardless of if its better implemented or not.

In the end, Apple comes across as lagging behind. Or playing catch up. :(

I wasn't complaining about iTunes Radio, more questioning why I need another radio app on my phone. If it has better features they I may use it. How about, I dunno, asking a question to weigh the pros and cons of something.

Its built into the itunes app, you can skip songs when you want and one touch purchase the song, and wait for it IT IS FREE! I will be deleting all other streaming music apps now.

it really does give me the feeling of flat design, no more glossing feeling.

I like it

I think flat design, since not inherently better or worse than anything else, is just the new shiny - like 10.0 Aqua. Its the new lickable and will pass by soon enough.

I do hope finally Apple will allow devs to create 3rd party keyboards.
I'm so sick of the Apple layout where I have to constantly switch back and forth to get to keys I use all the time.

Very disappointed to find they have not improved their Apple offering :(

This obsession with being "first" is really overdone....

Somehow, somewhere - I am going to use this quote ;) And maybe even for my signature. Because quite frankly it cuts any argument down on both sides.

Fact is - every company has or will borrow from another. Some will improve on it. Some won't. Some might even do it "worse."

At the end of the day - pick the one that "you" like best and stop worrying about the "other" guy.

John Gruber on Daring Fireball yesterday: "Whatever has changed in iOS 7, has changed for reasons other than fashion, or difference for the sake of difference."

Not so sure. To me it seems like Apple by following the latest UI design trends gave us what we thought we wanted, rather than what we didn't know we needed.

I agree to the overall idea of losing the skeumorphism, but this implementation does not embody the philosophy the videos in the keynote talked about – working for perfection and simplicity.

This is a great insight. This is not giving us what we did not know we wanted - this is giving us exactly what the loudest want.

I think it looks too "pretty" and is meant to appeal to the very young and the very old. It's not bad, I like it, but it looks a little too "precious" to me.
I like the new look of OSX a lot more, elegant and professional at the same time, ..as it should.

Call me sad but I think I'm going love the new combined address/search bar on Safari.

Also I hope OSX Mevericks comes with the tap at the top upward scroll.

Pretty good, but the icons will take some getting used to

I was looking forward to what Jony Ive would come up with, and overall I'm not disappointed. This is a nice "refreshing" of the interface we've been accustomed to since 2007. Some elements of the original interface are about ten years old, like the chat interface that dates back to the first version of iChat. That in particular looks pretty good IMO.

However, there's something about those icons. Maybe they're just too "different" from what we're used to?
