The new design looks great - with stock apps. Have they considered what the home screen will look like mixed with third party apps from the App Store? It's going to be a mix of flat and gloss, and look even worse than before. -_-

Love it, except for the icons.

I'm really interested to see what OS X looks like next year. I'm wondering if they will make it look more like iOS 7. The two OSs look very different now (they didn't even update the dock to match iOS 7.) At any rate, I am glad they ditched the leather!

The gloss is added on top of the icon. That said, I expect app designers will be redesigning their icons with a "simpler" flatter look. Growing pains.

Not to point out the obvious but the jailbreak community is not sanctioned by Apple for this very reason. If Apple implements some thing but the jailbreak community already has it, than people accuses them of copying or not innovating.

You couldnt be more wrong! What innovation was there? They copied the font and settings screens from Win 8 phone. They copied the overall appearance of the OS from Android Jelly Bean. Their new "innovations" are taken straight from Auxo, SBSettings, and infinitfolders. Yea, lots of "innovation". Let Cydia developers do all the work for them. And those "flat" icons are hideous. completely underwelming.

Still no download from Safari feature. Still no quick reply feature of messages. Still stuck with one keyboard, no swype or ability for third party keyboards.

iOS looks as boring, hideous and inhumane as rumored.

Folks, today marks the end of the old Apple as we knew it - Ive put the final nail into the coffin. R.I.P.

I haven't laughed so hard in ages!....Wait....you weren't serious were you?

Somehow, somewhere - I am going to use this quote ;) And maybe even for my signature. Because quite frankly it cuts any argument down on both sides.

Fact is - every company has or will borrow from another. Some will improve on it. Some won't. Some might even do it "worse."

At the end of the day - pick the one that "you" like best and stop worrying about the "other" guy.

Dear lord in heaven, someone who gets it......

I use both platforms daily and yet somehow I don't watch these keynotes (WWDC or I/O) and think "Man Apple already did that" or "Google already did that"......

Everything's been done - those REAL innovations, the things that are truly brand new don't come out very often.....when they do, they change the world - and the world can't handle that kind of change on a yearly or even 2-year "upgrade" basis.

just wait 6 months for an iOS 7 JB and then you can fix it.

Some of the icons look terrible at first glance. Hopefully I'll change my mind over time, but for now they look childish and unprofessional.

Exactly my thoughts! Some look terrible, not to say embarrassing!!

Unimpressive. I had confidence in whatever Johnny would come up with, but so far my faith looks misplaced. Maybe it will somehow redeem itself in person.

  • They copied the font, general look from Android ICS or earlier even.
  • They copied the overlay look from Windows Vista.
  • Copied Safari tab summary view form Windows Vista Aero windows view
  • Animated weather copied from HTC sense for Android.
  • Non-discoverable gestures from the edge copied from Microsoft Windows 8. Looks like it may not work if you have a case wrapping the edge.

So what you're saying is when Apple copies a feature, it's ok because they design like they're the only tech company in the world. But when another company copies an Apple feature, Apple brings out their lawyers because they gotta protect themselves. Funny.

I actually never said anything the other way.....

I think all the nonsense about "copying" is ridiculous from both sides.

But way to assume and look like a fool.

Leather?

Maybe temporarily. Just as some apps never updated to fully support the iphone 5 screen. I'd bet most apps that receive any kind of regular updates will be modified to match the new interface UI elements etc.

Looks like Yahoo Weather won't need a lot of tweaking though :-D

It'll be interesting to see how apps who already have their own slick interface .e.g. AlienBlue for reddit, will feel in the new OS.

ok,, while this looks more sleeker, just because its transparent.... now i know what they mean by "black & White"

its looks ugly....

The transparency covers it up, but iOS has just gone good, to dull...

No colors, except where its "required"

Apples controlling how their phones look, when in actual fact, we bought them....

Did customers actually say they wanted this flat look black and white ? I don't think so.

Looks kind of more now like Android actually, The transparency really bring this to life.

Siri : This is good, but only minor changes here.... New languages are ok, but i don't use siri at all..

Camera : Good too, this "tagging" is getting to be much like iPhoto on the Mac ... Is Apple slowly rolling out "iPhoto-like" tagging featues (like face recognition) to iOS ?

Photo stream is all ok, but the 30 days is killing people.

Activation theft is good too... but I bet this only works iCloud...... The theft can just activate as normal, and there in anyway.... The only difference is they won't have your data, But maybe the theft may only WANT th iphone, not your data... Who wouldn't want a free phone ? :)

App store fixes: I only hope they have fixes the constant slow scrolling in the when the screen is full of Apps (like in the 'Purchased section'). AirDrop is good, but what files exactly ? I bet its limited.

iRadio .... Shame its ad-supported, but hey, if your an iTunes Match user you won't get ads....

(But who would pay $25 just to get rid of the ads, if they don't care about Match.) Personally, if its not a mixed bag like Pandora, then its a "pass" I don't want to choose what i listen too... After a time it gets too boring.

Maui-tasking is all well and good improved, but how will this effect battery life if it updates ?

I haven't seen Mac Pro yet, coz i started the stream to late same with the Air. I'm just wondering with Haswell, weather it has the same "power saving" even outside the OS (like current Sandy Bridge Mac's), where it it sleeps/display dims constantly, regardless of energy saver, and power applied...

For example, you have A/C plugged in, when display is dimmed. You wake it up and leave it. 10 secs later it dims again... 10 SECONDS...

I'm trying to find out if this 'over the top" power saving is part of the Sandy Bridge chip, since its outside the OS when it happens too, not just inside.

And if so, I'm hoping Haswell doesn't further restrict this to gain more battery life.

And...its ugly. Flat is a trendy word for ugly apparently. We have a gamut of colors and other effects that convey information, but the design Gods have decided what we really want is a lack of information and just bland screens that look like they were developed by Soviet engineers for maximum blandess.

I will repeat what I have said before, the hatred of skeumorphism is an inter-design war that is being fought between a couple of design nerds. It contributes nothing and takes away nothing from the utility of apps, some design nerds just think its gross. So, when they got in charge they go so far away from it that they move into bland land.

Some of the other features look good. But I think the phone has had almost no useful improvements except system search and notification center. Wait, folders were good too.

Exactly. Except that Soviet engineers didn't design such crap, but American engineers now do.

Not very impressed with this new UI. Seems like iOS did not get any new killer features. Or even as many as iOS 6, 5 and all previous ones. Just a UI redesign.

Also, I wish they'd integrate the switcher into that control centre. Would've been nice, I wonder how Zephyr is going to work now, if at all.

Also, about the new background multitasking, I wonder if the audio from video(in Safari) will work again as it did before iOS 6.1.

Do you mean AirDrop?

It's not regulated by your processor speed or by a line of code but by the actual WiFi hardware in your phone. I believe the technology is WiFi direct.

And if you're talking about no longer supporting the 3GS with iOS 7... Then I'm afraid I have no words for you.

Again there isn't really a hardware limit on direct, where are you people getting this stuff from.

Will legacy devices be upgradeable to support the specification underlying the Wi-Fi
Direct certification program? The Wi-Fi Direct certification program does not require new
hardware to operate, so some vendors may offer software upgrades. However, it’s important to
note that interoperability between devices certified under the Wi-Fi Direct program and legacy © 2010 Wi-Fi Alliance. All rights reserved.
devices is a key element of the underlying specification, so even non-upgraded devices can join
a network certified as Wi-Fi Direct.

The iphone 5 isn't even certified .
