Tempted to trade in my 12 Pro and go for the 13 Pro Max. Battery life and improved cameras intrigue me.

Why do some folks want an always on display? Serious question.
Because it's an incredible feature. You can see both the time and your notifications by just taking a quick glance. I work as a teacher (not in a classroom, but one on one) and no matter how sneaky I try to be my students catch me at least 50% of the time. I need to check the time so they are not late for the next class and it makes me look like I'm counting down the minutes till they're gone. I know watches exist but I don't like wearing them because they make my eczema flair up.

My X to 12 Pro Max was the longest upgrade cycle I’ve done at 3 years. The 13 Pro Max gives me no reason to even consider it. But I think I could have guessed that going in.

Poket watch? Wall clock maybe? :)

You can almost hear them saying ***** how do we make this different than last year. Mediocre update. No wow
Saying mediocre is being kind. Wow. I can't say I was let down, however, as I wasn't expecting to be wowed anything.

Much more interested in the next round of Macs...

Interesting, no stand features on the max this year? I was waiting for them to move over to the max for any camera differences but never happened. They also never mentioned the base storage on the pro so I’ll assume it’s still 128gb. Basically 120hz and camera spec bump are the big upgrades this year
I was surprised too! Many people may choose base 13 pro due to its much smaller size now that Apple says it has better battery ...

First time I actually might not upgrade on day one ever. That's ok though. New camera upgrades might not be enough to convince me and I will have to see the reviews on the cameras and ProMotion. Cinematic video being limited to 1080p 30fps really a bummer.

Problem is that it seems Apple withheld almost every feature just to stick it to the leakers.
Not quite. The leakers got the iPhone 13 camera layout correct, got 120Hz correct, got the 12 Pro Max sensor stabilization on all iPhone 13 model correct. We saw renders of the iPhone 13 cameras a while back. The biggest disappointment for me was the very incremental Series 7 upgrade. No new sensors or design. Not that the Series 7 isn’t a great watch but it’s not worth the upgrade from my Series 5. Next year looks like the year I’ll be shelling out for a new iPhone, Watch, and (M2?) iPad Pro.

I'll be upgrading from an iPhone XS (not max) to the 13 pro max, what sort of upgrades other than faster speed and better camera should I be expecting?
Nothing. That’s the problem many of us are having. In my opinion, from the 11 Pro (which was a major jump up in camera quality from the XS), the iPhone and features have been incremental improvements, not major enough to warrant major expense every year. I will say, you will probably not notice a huge difference in speed, but you’ll notice a massive improvement in cameras coming from a XS.

I love it! Sky blue is calling my name.
I’m so glad the rumors were wrong, and the Pro still gets a fun color option.

The camera looks amazing, and, after feeling meh with the rumors, I’m suddenly excited again. I set my alarm to order.

But for the first time ever, I’m not getting the maximum storage option. I’m good with the 512 for another year at least.

The Pixel 6 can’t come soon enough. Google must be having a party right now after watching today’s press conference.

I'm very likely to get the iPhone 13, but in all previous years I've purchased an iPhone, I never even looked at Android. The Pixel 6 is the first Android phone that's really interested me. It is basically the iPhone of Android.
Ah, the perennial “iPhone Killer.” Been awhile since one of those has come around.

It always ends the same, of course.

I'm a little disappointed in the 13 Pro/PM reception this year from most of you. Compared to the overwhelming gripes about the 12 Pro/PM, you would think Apple absolutely killed it this year.
Lots of talk about this being a "S-type" upgrade while completely ignoring the S-type upgrade scheme since the induction of the X. Besides the addition of an ultrawide camera and changing the case to an uncomfortable brick, this is arguably the biggest update since the X. 120Hz screen (which note was a huge gripe about the 12 Pro/PM) and smaller notch are going to be the most noticeable changes in my opinion.

Coming from an avid 2 year cycle supporter dating back to the 4, this will be my first upgrade since I got the X. I actually returned the 12 Pro Max last year because, minus the extra camera, there really wasn't any noticeable difference (just as there was no appreciable difference between the X->XS->11 and hardly a difference between 11->12) to the X.

Again this is just my opinion, but the notch size reduction and addition of 120Hz makes this the first worthwhile upgrade since the X. Were there features we would have loved to see (looking at you always on display, USB-C, and TouchID)? Of course, but if those came this year, what are we going to be left with to be unimpressed at next year?

Edit: changed a letter
Bro I went from a X to a 12 pro max and the difference was incredibly across just about every metric, from overall speed to camera quality.

The feature I was looking forward to was video with bokeh, or the "Cinematic Video." But since it's only 1080P, I won't be using it. Grr couldn't Apple have enabled this for 4K??? Oh wait, that's the new innovative feature for the iPhone 14 *eye roll*
It's only 1080p because they are not using physical defocus but instead they are generating a depth map and applying some depth blur that is probably going to look fake. Everyone who has used Fusion/Nuke knows a struggle when you need to generate proper bokeh with a depth map. You have to go with plugins such as Frischluft and Peregrine and pray you have enough cpu and ram resources to even pull a proxy.

Just once (once!) I'd like Apple to demo its shallow-depth-of-field fakery using people with REAL HAIR, rather than actors and models who are bald, wearing tight caps, or sporting perfectly tight or slick-and-flat hairstyles. The softballs they lob to the algorithm are pretty misleading: when we get these phones out into the real world where there's real hair (and sometimes real wind blowing it around), the depth-map cuts never look very good.

I want to see a demo video racking focus on a shaggy-haired sheepdog exactly one pandemic out from his last grooming, wearing an old-ratty-pilly dogsweater--not some perfectly-slicked blonde kid!
