12 mpx i am fine it is the 3 x zoom in that made me be like wtf.

I don't expect 100 times gimmick zoom in, but at least give us 5 times consider how much we use our phone camera now
How about 10X and astrophotography mode like their main competitors? They are always lagging behind. And I read iOS's one-handed mode is very poor compared to the Android's one-handed mode. For the first time in my life I am considering a non-iPhone phone, otherwise I'll just keep using the 1st-gen SE.

Why do some folks want an always on display? Serious question.
Good question. I find that after I check my phone, if I don't put the screen to sleep, then I feel distracted by the phone and want to keep looking at the screen. I always have to put the screen to sleep to get back to work.

Also no matte black, no squared-off Watch design, no astrophotography (unless I missed it). The leakers got a lot wrong this year. Misinformation campaign by Apple was in full effect.
Also noticed the smug grin by the guy presenting the watches with round edges?

So, not many people are excited about those colors. Me neither. I wonder: Since we saw the purple iPhone 12 as a new addition to the lineup somewhat later, might we see a special color option for the pros arriving later this time? Like the rumored black? Or bronze?

Just once (once!) I'd like Apple to demo its shallow-depth-of-field fakery using people with REAL HAIR, rather than actors and models who are bald, wearing tight caps, or sporting perfectly tight or slick-and-flat hairstyles. The softballs they lob to the algorithm are pretty misleading: when we get these phones out into the real world where there's real hair (and sometimes real wind blowing it around), the depth-map cuts never look very good.

I want to see a demo video racking focus on a shaggy-haired sheepdog exactly one pandemic out from his last grooming, wearing an old-ratty-pilly dogsweater--not some perfectly-slicked blonde kid!

They will not because if they did they would be breaking new grounds in VFX market. Their masks will fail most of the time or at least half the time just like in Portrait mode. In the end this is just a Portrait mode for video, nothing fancy. But that defocus in Portrait mode is stupid low quality, whenever I see someone taking Portrait shots I remind them they have Telephoto lens for such purpose.

Apple should have gone with physical A to B defocus instead, sure the blur won't be ..much blurred unless objects are separated with proper physical distance but at least it there would be no masking issues. But Apple has to do the "smart" thing and introduce "wow" factor to let you make adjustments afterwards, I mean if you decided to do rack focus from A to B why would you want to reverse it? You can already tap on screen to focus right? So you can manually do draft focus from A to B if you just keep tapping on a screen to see how the shot will look like before you take the shot.

Anyway, I haven't paid much attention in demo but can you do manual speed transition while you are shooting or you need to adjust in the post? If there is no A to B slider while you are shooting vide which you can drag up and down/left to right then this is useless pretty much.

Actually, it was because I found that I was wrong it it also a 6X optical with camera/optics from Leica. I was going to reword it but distracted on a teams meeting from work.. Sorry. I like tech, so I am not biased about who makes it. However, I will not drift from Apple as I like having the complete ecosystem and every time I have to use a windows pc, I want to knock it down and smash it....it just sucks.
Yeah, I have been vocal about the rather boring year for updates, but, I’m still a major Apple fan and like being in the ecosystem. I used to upgrade every year, it’s just the phones have gotten so fast, cameras so good (for smartphones) that there’s just not a lot to entice me every year. The lat product that was super exciting to me was the M1 MacBook Air. I’ll be pumped next year as based on rumors, will be a major year for the iPhone, and hopefully the Apple Watch gets redesigned with flat edges.

I’m on AT&T’s yearly upgrade program so in December I’ll be eligible for the jump to a 13 Pro Max and that Sierra Blue is so hot I think I’m going to do it!!

Haven’t owned a Max phone before so this should be a worthy upgrade even over the 12 Pro.

I don’t want to have to wear a watch to have this feature that many android phones already have.
I don't want to hear people complain about the UX when they don't understand that the Apple Watch is meant to be used with iPhone, which changes the experience of using iPhone.

I like the expanded night mode feature and the longer reach of the longest lens. The macro mode is a terrific upgrade, too. I’m in!

Well! I currently own a 12 Pro max. And, as much as it will grind my gears upgrading for a feature that should have been there last year! (120hz Pro motion) I will be upgrading again this year. I’m looking forward to the macro mode too.

I’m stuck in procrastination hell at the moment though. The last 2 iPhones I’ve had have been the max versions (XS max and now the 12 Pro max) And they’ve both been my everything phones. I watch a lot of video’s on my phone, read books, articles, web browsing etc. and, recently I ended up in hospital for 2 weeks and my 12 Pro max came in very handy ( I didn’t take my iPad in with me.

anyway…… As much as I love my 12 Pro max, I’m considering getting the regular iPhone 13 pro. The 6.1inch screen is still a nice size and it will be less hassle carrying it around in my jeans pockets. Whenever I’ve got my 12 Pro max in my jeans pocket it digs into my leg, and I can feel the weight of it. However, aside from the 12 pro max being a bit of a pain in my jeans pocket, and having less user friendly one handed use. There is nothing else that I don’t like about it.

I’m considering the regular 13 Pro, but I think it will be one of those instant regret purchases as soon as it’s delivered. I know as soon as it arrives I’ll remember all the reasons why I love the max versions: Great display for consuming media, better battery life, being able to use it as my everything device. And, whichever one I go with I plan to stick with for at least 3 years. So, I think I’d be best just going with the Pro max.

man, I hate procrastination. I suffer with it every time I upgrade my phone, iPad, laptop. I had the 12 Pro initially last year and really liked it, but I missed to larger display so I sent it back and had the max. But, all the way to the post office I was still considering keeping the regular 12 Pro.

it’s pre-order day tomorrow at 1PM here in the UK, so I need to decide if I’m getting the regular 13 Pro or the 13 Pro max. I’m leaning toward the Pro max because that 120hz 6.7inch display will look beautiful.

I am genuinely annoyed with apple though. Pro motion should have been in last years pro models. I know drip feeding features is the apple way, but it’s still frustrating. I’d switch to and S21 Ultra, or wait for the Pixel 6 Pro. But I only switched from Android 2 years ago and, in my personal opinion iOS, the App Store, and! Apples eco system are far superior.

this year definitely should have been a S year, but I’ll still be upgrading. But, I’ll definitely not upgrade for another 3 years maybe longer.

I did that with the 12 and regretted it. Returned the phone and got the Max.

Just ordered the 13 Pro Max in Sierra Blue (512GB). This year SUCKED though, only doing it because of the annual trade-in, and got a bunch of scratches.

I am looking forward to Promotion. This year has to be the most boring, worthless, upgrade in history. I was at least expecting usb-c and much improved battery/screen.

Try completely reformatting (reflashing the current FW) it and NOT restoring any backup, except for non-appbackup data from iCloud. It will be a LOT faster. Same happened to my 1st gen iPad Pro - after several consequtive OTA FW updates, it became sluggish (in around 14.2). I've reformatted it and all the sluggishness has completely disappeared. Now I'm a happy camper again and don't see any point in upgrading to a newer model.

Appreciate that and I hope someone else reading through took the advice if possible. I completely trust this would work, but the effort involved is mind blowing and I don't think I could survive without restoring my backup (it's been so long since I messed around with a fresh restore that I don't even know how it is all compartmentalised anymore).

Interesting, MY 7+ runs fine

@Both I did a hard reset shortly after this post and the device certainly became a lot more performant but one thing that didn't, and won't ever be the same is how the 1gb of RAM is utilised and which app states are prioritised by iOS when multi tasking between apps (something I do a lot).

I have now been using the iPhone 13 Pro Max since launch day and it's nice to rarely having to think about multi tasking back into an app and not seeing it with the same state I left it in without a refresh. The bigger screen is also way more welcome than I thought it would be (except for in 16:9 vids which are almost the same physical size) ....but it still doesn't feel like I'm on a flagship device like it did when I jumped from 5 to 6+, nor does it feel snappier than switching from 6+ to 7+...and losing touchID while being an obedient mask wearer is maddening. Oh and being stuck in strict lockdown I can't say I've had a a lot of chances to utilise the new cameras.

I’m sure you’ll enjoy your new camera. It’s the opposite for me. I’ve been waiting to get rid of my Pro Max camera.

It’s been fun having a mini version of an iPad mini in my pocket. It’s become less fun holding it in my hand for long periods of time, especially when I’ve added a (lightweight) case and screen protector.

Also, I like riding bikes and photography and sometimes combine the two. The size in particular and weight penalty (OK, not much) of the Max model sagging in the pocket of my bike jersey offends rather than enhances my aesthetic of cycling minimalism.

If the standard model didn’t have the same camera features of the Max, which was true of previous Pro models, I’d have chosen the Max.

For someone who’s not a weight weenie like I am, though, the upgrade to the Pro will be awesome.

Finally got to order my iPhone 13 Pro Max yesterday as Mexico opened up for preorders. I'm looking forward to seeing my phone in a couple of weeks.

Has anyone here tried the clear MagSafe case with the 13 Pro Max? I had one for my iPhone 11 Pro Max and liked the quality but found it made the phone too bulky with it's thick rounded edges.
