Ok, Apple still shrinked the cutout and managed to make a new, interactive iOS experience out of it that's useful and innovative using that gained space. I can definitely see this being very nice for some multitasking.

Fair enough. If they can’t yet get the cameras under the screen they have to do something I suppose. It’s only on the Pro so far so it’s not such a big deal for most.

I seriously don't get why you are complaining about this. You wanted the notch gone, now it's no more and the cutout is actually very useful now and is a new way to interact with iOS.

Then you say that the notch is better, because the Dynamic Island is a gimmick or something and the pill cutout is somehow worse?

Get a grip.

The notch hadn’t gone, it’s just changed shape and moved further into the screen. I prefer the notch at this point if I’m honest. The obstructive element for why people disliked the notch originally has not been solved, so it’s easy to see why it’s still not a popular evolution of the design.

Ha yeah or Paramount+. Just sounded like a CBS type show like Survivor or NCIS.
Netflix has the crazy concept shows: love is blind, some other love is blind but on an island, you must be blind, you will be blind and not hook up with anyone or you “lose”. Ha

Notch/cutout/chunk of screen that isn't screen... doesn't matter if you rename it... the amount of screen it makes unusable is what we are all comparing-- you say the notch has gone, but the alternative now wastes MORE room on the screen, so you should forgive us for thinking things got worse rather than better.

If notifications/call functions/extending your fingers to the top of your long display are amazing features, we really are not paying attention to what's already normal features on smartphones.
You raise a really good point. Any function that forces people with small hands to reach to the top of the display isn't ergonomic, and at worst is down right idiotic. I have large hands, and even I can't reach the very top of the largest iPhones with my thumb comfortably, when holding the phone one handed (as I usually do). Especially towards the top left.

This place has surely jumped the shark when the most raved feature is just a hack for a flaw that only iPhones seem to have (do we really need a 3d camera? give me a fingerprint sensor and a full unobstructed screen any day please.. Maybe that can be the iPhone Ultra?) and now this pill seems to just make the problem worse so they come up with this lame hack to cover it up. Ugh.

Eye roll. Anyone else got the patience to respond to this?
I hear you. This image speaks most loudly. To me this is just obnoxious!

Hate the notch or pill cutout on the iPhone all you want, but the Dynamic Island on the 14 Pro is ****in awesome. Finally, Apple has decided to take a risk and innovate and I would say they nailed it.

But I do agree, the notch on MacBooks is literally so stupid without any sort of special hardware inside.
On the MacBooks, the notch is more than just a camera. There are two other sensors right next to the camera. Overall, it is not a small component. That's why it is not just a single hole. Overall what Apple actually did was push the menubar up into the bezel area to give more screen below than in previous MacBooks. That is a net benefit. Nothing was taken away but additional screen space was added. Some people are obsesses with the notch and even now, almost a year later can't get over it. Of course those people who got these MacBook Pros soon got comfortable with the notch and just ignore it while enjoying the added screen space.

I bet you never thought Apple would do something to actually make us miss the Notch!

What is your point in posting that image? You are showing a photo that you have zoomed into. Part of the image extends around the dynamic island. It looks exactly like you would think it should. You have chosen to zoom in more than the default view. They could have cut off the image but instead those chose to extend it past the island. This is fine and not some big deal.

I didn’t do ****. This is the video that Apple posted from the Apple event..

OK. I tried to recreate that. I viewed the presentation. I had to manually chose the zoomed and cropped mode where the video is pushed out into the notch/island space. I guess you can watch that way if you want. If you don't like it you can leave the video in the original fit to screen mode. I don't see the problem.

Default view. Video fits within screen content area.

48MP camera, it is not about the megapixels, it's about the sensor size. Iphone, and all other phone cameras, can tout MP all they want, I would put their images up against any DSLR out there and the quality will disappoint.

And that won’t matter to most people most of the time. This is about improving the quality of the camera that you always have with you. Unless you are a professional photographer or a serious hobbiest, you’re not likely to invest is a dedicated camera. AFAIK even the manufacturers are no longer making DSLRs though they are still producing mirrorless cameras.
