Apple Unveils iPhone 14 Pro With Dynamic Island, Always-On Display, 48MP Camera, and More

I still need to see the purple Pro in person, but so far so good. It looks like it could be the purple equivalent of my pacific blue, a lighter shade but not too light.

All iPhone components are made in Asia. Euro have not fallen against the Asian currencies.

The satellite functionality is really cool! While the emergency stuff is fantastic, it's going to be extremely rare (hopefully) it is needed. The Find My updates via satellite actually seem much more likely to get used fairly often, especially by the camping/backpacking set. Has me looking forward to the 15! (Will probably skip the 14 and keep holding my 12 or do a smaller upgrade to a 13 mini because of the chipset being 95% similar between 13 & 14.)

So very pleasantly surprised they kept it at $999!

(It does make sense as it’s the same body, other than the camera, so it’s kind of a S version)

It's gorgeous, but wow, that price increase in Euro's...
Still, I believe it's worth the upgrade from my XS
 
Slowmotion Video still 1080p at 240fps on all models… was hoping for 2k or better.

I mean maybe wait to see it in person? Either way no one is making you buy it anyway. Stash the cash, keep using what you have.

Thing is throughout the demo I was thinking "they could do exactly this on the phones with notches as well."

All it does is use the area to the sides of the notch which currently is dead space anyway. In all the demos the area above the notch has no controls. This is essentially the menu bar notch from the 2021 MBPs.

This kind of reminds me of Touch Bar all over again. Not available on all models, so limited third party support. I would really like to see them bring this to older models in a software update, and it's pretty much guaranteed this will be on the "regular" iPhone next year if they really expect this to be something that is used long term and not just making lemonade out of punch hole cameras.
 
The 14P looks sexy, and I really like how they used the Island thing to hide the cameras with notifications... but Im waiting to upgrade until Apple joins the rest of the world- and their iPads and Macs- in having USB-C.
 
Pros: -Better cameras
-Satellite connectivity is cool (but only in US)

Cons: -Damn notch now extends 25% further into the screen than before.
-Substantial price increase outside US
-Still no memory capacity increase.
-US customers lost their SIM card trays

What a "meh" update. I'm due an upgrade to my 3 year old iPhone, but this I'm now tempted to skip it, or buy a Samsung. What is the world coming to. :(

I managed to nod off no less than 3 times during the presentation today. Not even coloured AirPods 😂
