One thing I do like with the new iPad Mini, is you get the same specs no matter the model! So same RAM and storage speeds and GPU cores… unlike the M4 Pro costing from a grand. The Mini knows what device it is and isn’t trying to be anything else.
I wouldn't be so sure about storage speeds to be honest. There have been differences especially between the entry-level storage options and higher ones in the past.

That is true, I think my post was based more on hope than anything else 😂. I like the new iPad Mini and think it’s a great update, but for me I want a new OLED M4, my eyes are just too used to Pro Motion now and my M1 11” Pro screen size, I may upgrade to the base model and moan about the price for ever more lol. I couldn’t justify to myself to owning two different size iPads 🤣, well I could but eventually I would admit that it’s stupid for my use case haha.

I do wait for iPad mini after I gave my M1 iPad Pro to my son , I do prefer nano sim and the new update only have the e-sim , I check the store today , they still have the mini 6 which cheaper than the new update mini only 50 US dollars , I guess I will skip the mini 6 and go to the new update mini , any suggestion or opinion man ? its seem idiot to buy the mini 6 which announced 3 years ago right

Per Apple:
  • Supports one external display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz
Every iPad (and iPhone) supports mirroring to an external display. I want what the M-based iPads have with being able to separately move windows around on the external screen.

It’s just a bit odd as it’s not even a hardware limitation. A jailbroken last gen mini can handle it as seen here

iPad Air 11" M2 is still the best value iPad probably ever.
I think the 2018 iPad Pro 11" with the A12X was the best value. It had all the premium features (full 11" screen, 120hz screen, truetone, usb-c, faceid, quad-speaker, five mics, 2nd-gen pencil support, keyboard folio and magic keyboard support) and has so far lasted through 7 versions of iPad OS (from iPadOS 13 to 18 so far). It's getting long in the tooth now, but for the most part is still does just about everything iPadOS can throw at it.

If I were forced to upgrade due to it not supporting iPadOS19 - I think I would get the 2022 iPad Pro 11" with the M2 instead of the Air. No need to buy a new pencil, the speakers are better, 120hz screen is nice, plus it's actually 11" instead of 10.9". Plus, that gen has come down in price so much, it can be had for $600 in good condition.

TBQH this is kinda yucky... I don't know why anyone would want this.
I do ... Previously had a 2018 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar; nice computer until the M1 version came out... got that, which is so much improved it rendered my original iPad Pro into something no longer used. Traded the iPad Pro (got $100 trade-in ) and preordered the iPad mini 7. Picked up a rotatable case for the mini 7 with a slot for an Apple Pencil pro. Got that for $95.

The M series chips require a larger body for heat dissipation. This was never in the cards for the mini. They could have gone for an A18 though.

Correct

Yeah, I can't even believe they released "this" as an update after 3 years
If the display jelly motion is fixed, along with the additional A17 Pro features aka ray tracing/mesh shading, dynamic caching, hardware AV1 decoding, x2 neural processing, along with double the RAM and storage whats the problem?

They said the OLED display wouldn't be until 2026, so think of this as a decent placeholder with a new battery if you need too.

Apple Pencil (USB-C) is not the same as Apple Pencil (2nd Generation). The Apple Pencil (2nd Generation) doesn’t have a USB-C connector. It wirelessly charges magnetically on the side of the iPad. Apple Pencil (2nd Generation) isn’t on that list you shared, so I don’t think you’re making the point you’re trying to make.
Thanks, I stand corrected. I did not realize that the USB-C version was as lame as it is. I thought it was an AP2 plus a USB-C port.

If it had a 120hz display, I would instantly sell my iPad Pro and get a mini.
My guess is Apple wants to upsell buyers like you and me to the iPad Pro. I have been on the upgrade fence for a year waiting to see what a new Mini might bring. I will test the Mini 7, but may still stay on the fence because the Pro weighs 50% more and costs twice as much while the Mini 6 was not compelling. I am primarily a Mac person (M2 MBP), so iPad upgrading is not essential.

So far in my case Apple's upsell efforts have led to no sale. Probably not what Apple intends.

If you’ve had it all three years, it is pretty good. However, when its only a 9 month old 256gb wi-fi + cell and it still has over 100% battery health(analytics shows 100.3), that is a horrible offer. They should use case specific or at least a less stringent system for this.
Why should they? Apple is not eBay and will not be reselling the device; Apple probably recycles it.. Users who want eBay prices and an eBay experience can sell on eBay.

Massive disappointment.

Been waiting YEARS for a 120 Hz iPad Mini and we get a garbage display again.

Haven’t looked at a 60 Hz display in forever. It’s obsolete.

Also haven’t touched my iPad Pro in years because I don’t like its size. Guess the iPad is no longer for me.
I am in the same boat for the same reasons.

If they really want to upsell me, release an iPad mini pro. Give it a 120hz screen with OLED. Give it 1000 nits of brightness. Give it an M4 chip. Give it C-band and mmWave 5G. Give it Face ID and pro cameras. Give it 2nd gen USB 3.2 transfer speeds.

I would buy one of those for $799.

The iPad model line-up seems a bit confused. Thought does not appear to have been given to the different practical uses that the mini, iPad (base) and Air are to serve.

In particular the Air. Traditionally it was the lighter model for Apple products (as the name implies). However:
  • Current iPad Air 11" (M2) (462g) is 18g / 4.05% heavier than current iPad Pro 11" (M4) (444g)!
  • Even across same chip - current iPad Air 11" (M2) (462g) is only 4g / 0.86% lighter than previous iPad Pro 11" (4th Gen / M2) (466g). Hardly enough to justify the 'Air' name.
For the mini - it is unclear if it is intended to be a smaller iPad (base) or instead a smaller Air. Take the screen for example. iPad mini displays have the most superior pixel density of all iPads - 326 ppi. iPads (base), Airs and Pros each have a 264 ppi display. So while for other specifications the mini has a better display than the iPad (base), an equivalent display to the Air, and a worse display than the Pro, it still has a better pixel density. I'm sure someone will say 'that's because you are viewing it from a closer distance', but I'm not sure that is true.

Personally it would be great to see an iPad with a mini size (8" to 9" with small bezels), OLED display, 120Hz ProMotion, no need for the back camera. Essentially just a reading device.
Don't see this happening, sadly!
A high end (=pricey) essentially just a reading device makes no sense whatsoever when there are so many good far less expensive reading devices available. The Apple ecosystem is not necessary for reading; in fact for reading the Apple ecosystem is less competent than the competition. A high end (=pricey) full purpose Mini-size-Apple-ecosystem tablet device OTOH makes total sense. Why Apple fails to give the iPad Mini its high end display makes no sense to me.

I bet you would. But Apple is not presently inclined to step outside its iPhone Pro Line for certain things, and the same with the iPad Pro line. The iPad mini 7 will continue to be just a great utility device to bridge what the iPhone Pro/Max can't provide which is a real desktop browser similar to what you utilize on a Mac without the larger physical sizes alone for people on the go that don't want to travel with a laptop all the time. I use mine with the iPhone Pro hot spot for most things. I don't have any iPad Pro desires because of the using a Mac for a lot of my usage. ;)

You shouldn’t be expecting (currently) pro features with the mini. Apple has never even hinted they were going to build a mini to compete with the current pro models.
What we expect may not be what we want. To sell devices Apple needs to provide what buyers want. Hence folks like me with an antiquated iPad Air, ready to buy a new iPad for many months, but not buying.

IMO quite a few buyers do want an iPad Mini with Pro features and are willing to pay for it. Size dramatically differentiates the iPad Mini from all other iPads. I see no reason not to have base and pro versions of the iPad Mini, but so far Apple market research apparently disagrees, causing missed sales to buyers like me.

A tablet is a non-essential device to many millions of users like me who primarily depend on an M-series Macbook Pro and an iPhone 16 Pro. So Apple either needs to step up and provide the iPads that buyers want or to continue bleeding sales they should be making to ready buyers like me.

If Apple were to release a mini pro, it would about the same price or more than the current M4, in my opinion. At that price point, I question whether the same purchase enthusiasm would exist past a small segment of users. Apple isn’t going to release a mini pro, as it would compete with the current pro models, which I don’t think Apple wants to risk. I think the mini pro users are a lot like the iPhone mini pro wanters; a wonderful dream not shared by a larger segment of buyers.
