Not gonna lie, I was worried this upgrade would be good and would make me regret buying the M2 Pro. Absolutely no regrets. And the new black colour is not my thing at all. It does look amazing for those upgrading from Intel though. A great upgrade.

So this all but confirms the M4 Pro Max will have a whopping 256 GBs of memory! 🤯🤯🤯

I thought they were just getting warmed up to drop something HUGE….nope…thanks for joining us tonight! 😂
Same! I was hoping for an iPad mini or an iMac Pro, but instead we got told how great 24" is for those who already have a 27" 😂

Any thoughts on whether the 14" Pro battery life will improve with this for the Pro or Max models?. It's good right now, but not great. [18 hours is very aspirational].

It is crazy that only M3 pro and M3 max get the black option, which is a $500 upgrade from the M3. Base M3 Macbook pro obviously cannot afford such premium color.

If they weren't going to update the entire Mac line, this could have been an email.
Nothing about games other than weak lip service for Game Mode.
I mean, what was the point of the hype and sending out giftboxes to influencers etc?

I would love to upgrade, but for what I do, I just can't justify it. Glad they finally got rid of the 13 inch MBP and made the entry level price of the 14 inch more affordable. Will likely get that for my sibling to upgrade from his aging Kaby Lake 13 inch MacBook Pro.
I missed most of the event sadly, but the 14 is not cheaper (1999) right?

The Pro and Max versions are not any cheaper, they just made an entry level 14 inch MacBook Pro with just the entry level M3. It's kinda similar to that entry level MacBook Pro without touch bar from 2016. They upgraded the default storage to 512 GBs, but it's still stuck at 8 GBs of RAM. Apple could have really push that up to at least 12 GBs.

Interesting how much of a single core boost those new m3s have gotten. While the new amount of cores is certainly insane, it was a bit suspicious how hey never mentioned single core performance once during this keynote..

And it seems that it only has one fan too - a rather significant difference to the MPro model

And they're not offering Space Black on the M3 model. I guess you're not a Space Black kind of pro unless is says so on the chip, not the bottom plate/cover. And let's face it, only big pros can like Space Black. Apple and their subtle upsell maneuvers...

Pricing the models out with RAM, processor, etc, these are more expensive. The RAM amounts are odd

I am gonna be honest with you, I feel like the Space Black comes across like a cheap MacBook from 2006 or those old Dell Latitude 5500's we are sending to e-waste everyday. I have a space gray M1 right now and I feel like my next MacBook Pro upgrade, I am going back to classic Silver.

I still need to absorb everything but my inclination is I’m probably gonna pass on upgrading from Intel for another year. Disappointed there wasn’t a bigger performance increase over the M2 series on 3nm, and it’s annoying that you can only get 36GB on the M3 Pro. Was hoping for 48GB. I think that’s the sweet spot right now for your typical multitasker.

It’s also disappointing that the M3 Max starts at 36GB with the only option to increase to 96GB for $800! Unless you select the upgraded M3 Max which is $300 more and gets you 48GB but then you can upgrade 16GB more to 64GB RAM for $200. So to get 48GB RAM you have to spend a minimum $3700 which is insane to me.

The next disappointment is the storage still only starts at 512GB like it’s 2013 instead of 2023. 1TB SSDs are dirt cheap nowadays, even for fast ones. And charging $400 extra for only 1.5TB more is borderline criminal.

The final disappointment is they still haven’t moved to a Dynamic Island so the notch isn’t so large or apparent. With no FaceID STILL there is no reason for a notch that large. They could literally have a hole punch.

I think M4 will probably be it for me either way. I think I can probably deal with another year on Intel. Hopefully by then they start with more RAM in the mid-range and storage and Apple also upgrades to OLED. I love the Space Black but it still doesn’t look very dark. Will have to see it in person or in a better hands-on comparison video.

Gonna go check refurb prices now, LOL. Maybe…

EDIT: Apple is offering me nearly $800 for my old Intel MBP. Now I'm tempted...hmmm.....

EDIT 2: Nevermind. This whole thing is a cluster to figure out a machine that fits my needs. Don't need a Max chip but need more than 36GB RAM for multitasking. Apple is charging way too much for storage and hasn't increased the base levels accordingly. The Inflation is coming through their refusal to spec bump anything else. Can't wait for that Qualcomm competition to heat up. Also they wouldn't let me use a trade-in on this purchase, it would be on a future purchase, and you can't use it with 12 month 0% Apple Card financing either. What a mess!
