Hopefully they worked out whatever caused them to axe black the first time back in 2015(?) or so with the ‘slate’ iPhones.

Hmm sad, I think I would have preferred Space Gray (no longer offered with M3 Pro/Max), but I’ll have to see the black in person. Not a deal breaker either way or anything haha.
Black is always classy, but this color segmentation drives me bonkers. Why punish your most obsessive fans? All I want is for my AirPods Max, phone, iPad and laptop to match, Tim!

Was not expecting to see a new colour. The Pro lineup should also get more colours, at least gold/rose gold/starlight

I actually like the black, but am concerned about fingerprints and port scratches, and it's unfortunate how the only colors on certain models are black and silver. What about space gray? Regardless, I hope this is an indication of more colors to come on the MBA or the rumored low-cost MB, but with black bezels. Crazy they stuck with white on the iMac.

I still need to absorb everything but my inclination is I’m probably gonna pass on upgrading from Intel for another year. Disappointed there wasn’t a bigger performance increase over the M2 series on 3nm, and it’s annoying that you can only get 36GB on the M3 Pro. Was hoping for 48GB. I think that’s the sweet spot right now for your typical multitasker.

It’s also disappointing that the M3 Max starts at 36GB with the only option to increase to 96GB for $800! Unless you select the upgraded M3 Max which is $300 more and gets you 48GB but then you can upgrade 16GB more to 64GB RAM for $200. So to get 48GB RAM you have to spend a minimum $3700 which is insane to me.

The next disappointment is the storage still only starts at 512GB like it’s 2013 instead of 2023. 1TB SSDs are dirt cheap nowadays, even for fast ones. And charging $400 extra for only 1.5TB more is borderline criminal.

The final disappointment is they still haven’t moved to a Dynamic Island so the notch isn’t so large or apparent. With no FaceID STILL there is no reason for a notch that large. They could literally have a hole punch.

I think M4 will probably be it for me either way. I think I can probably deal with another year on Intel. Hopefully by then they start with more RAM in the mid-range and storage and Apple also upgrades to OLED. I love the Space Black but it still doesn’t look very dark. Will have to see it in person or in a better hands-on comparison video.

Gonna go check refurb prices now, LOL. Maybe…

EDIT: Apple is offering me nearly $800 for my old Intel MBP. Now I'm tempted...hmmm.....

EDIT 2: Nevermind. This whole thing is a cluster to figure out a machine that fits my needs. Don't need a Max chip but need more than 36GB RAM for multitasking. Apple is charging way too much for storage and hasn't increased the base levels accordingly. The Inflation is coming through their refusal to spec bump anything else. Can't wait for that Qualcomm competition to heat up. Also they wouldn't let me use a trade-in on this purchase, it would be on a future purchase, and you can't use it with 12 month 0% Apple Card financing either. What a mess!
Wait, what, how much RAM do you have in your Intel MBP?

Would be great if Apple would just color match their products across the line. It’s so annoying to have no matching colors from watch, iPhone, iPad to MacBook.

Once you add on a bare minimum "Pro" RAM, the price difference between the M3 model and M3 Pro model is tiny. Might as well buy the Pro chip and get the benefits of more ports and better cooling...

Now I hope we’ll see the next Macbook air M3 in midnight or, even better « space blue », wilth this new coating anti fingerprints

No Space Black for those only buying base M3 MBPs. Apple wants everyone to know you're a peasant 😂
Actually, the really sad part here is that Apple has now rebranded Space Gray as a non-premium color...kicked to the curb. I really hate what Apple did here.

MBP is having its iPhone 7 moment here - everyone will want one and everyone will know its That MacBook, but after a while everyone will also know its “That” MacBook from that year. So be careful with that color. Also it heats up in the sun waay faster.

Loved the night shots, the blacked out chip lab and cheesy music. Apple's Mac sales must be pretty soft...releasing 3 chip tiers at once and 3 hardware products in a rushed 30-minute event just before shopping season, no detailed demos, no one actually holding a space-black unit, etc. It felt like a last-minute holiday upgrade pitch to Intel and M1 owners. I went Intel to M2 max this summer and it was a revelation. At this pace, the M5 and beyond will be phenomenal.

Indeed. Strange that you can’t even get the Pro or Max variants in Space Gray anymore.

First pro black Apple laptop since the PowerBook G3 Pismo!!!
There was a black MacBook in the 2000s, but it wasn’t the more powerful PowerBook line. The Lombard was my first Apple laptop, and I’ve been waiting for another good black one ever since. My 14” isn’t ready for a replacement yet, but someday….

I don’t care about fingerprints or paint chipping around the ports, but I’m concerned, based on the photos I’ve seen, that the black isn’t really a deep black at all. I’ll need to see it in person!
