Now we're finding out just how spoiled we've been with other launches. New product, high demand, low stock...fun times.

True that. This is my first Gen1 tech product ever, Apple or otherwise. Although I didn't experience the others, I still feel as if this is the strangest.

What a weird as launch! I hope they don't pull this with the iPhone 6S this year.

As an observer who has been closely following the launch saga (like everyone else here), my guess is that this change is part of their clarification on B&M availability. As we've seen from Apple's Executive Team's responses, they agreed that they need better communication to customers that Apple Watch will not be available in stores on April 24th.

My my my. This *has* been a most unusual product launch hasn't it? Very confusing. As a former PR/marketing exec, I'd guess this is probably not the way they wanted this managed (understatement). Not a fail, but not smooth either. I'd give them a lot of slack given it's a new product with production problems, but this start/stop/media saturation/take a step back launch is unsettling/dizzying.

I think Apple is trying to cater to everyone. For example, people who preordered should be fine. But to someone who just went on their website, they don't want to mislead them. New customers cannot get a Watch on the 24th. I think this may be the only reason. We have shipping dates already. We should be fine. But this is for new customers browsing Apple's website.

I wonder if they'll update the Watch TV commercials too then?

That's a good point. I'm not really sure. We will ultimately see if Apple can meet demand next week. If preorder dates move up and many people get their Watches on the 24th, they could say something like "Available Now Exclusively Online".

File this under "unlikely to happen" but what if they decided to ship them out earlier?

I'm filing that one under extremely unlikely to happen. Maybe for the edition versions? And that's a HUGE maybe, other than that, I have a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach I won't see mine until May 8th.

Apple Updated Website "The Watch is Coming."

I think they changed the wording on the Apple Store app also.

"Pre-order is now available exclusively online"

Just what I was thinking. Apple probably thought about it all again and realized the date is confusing - no in store stock and barely any pre orders will be released on the 24th.

As others have stated, I think it is about managing expectations of new customers. FWIW, the watch shown in the Siri guided tour video says "Fri. 24"
