Why don't the MacBooks have white keys with backlighting? Why have they always been black and not similar to the other keyboards in the Apple range?
white keys are very HARD to see in not a complete dark room !!!!! when the lights go slightly on you have a white key completely and hardly see on what key you press. Check surface book

White on white?

Really?
So the black lettering is actually semi transparent on a solid white key. You wouldn't notice that the lettering is semi transparent until the lights dim and the individual backlighting shines through. :)

Wow. Apple has some balls to charge this much money for a computer that is this under-powered. I was certain that when they finally refreshed this model, that there'd be at least one more USB-C port, a processor that wasn't designed for a Texas Instruments graphing calculator and a new entry price of $999. Guess I was dead wrong. Apple is losing, if not already have lost, touch with their base. I just don't get it. Sure, they'll sell a ton of the pink ones just because it's different, but some PC OEM will come along and copy it anyway. Nice Apple.

The original MacBook Air was released in January 2008 for $2999 with a 64GB SSD. In November of that year a version with a 128GB SSD was $2499. It wasn't until October 2010 that it was "mainstreamed," and it still used the aging Core 2 Duo processor when the rest of the market had switched to the first Core i5/i7 chips. The MacBook Air didn't get Core i5/i7 until July 2011.

My guess is that the MacBook form factor is exactly what Apple wants it to be. If a version comes out with a Core i5/i7 it likely would be a 14" model (similar to the HP Spectre), or be Pro branded.

If any product screams to me what Steve Jobs would approve, it would be the MacBook, more than any other in Apple's lineup.

I ONLY mad about on 1 thing.......

Is that the 720 HD FaceTime front camera cost a lot ????????????????????

Insanely ridiculous!!!
It's probably a space issue. Do you want a camera bump on the MacBook?

If the MacBook was priced at $999 (or even $1,099), I think it's perceived limitations would be a lot easier to forgive, but at $1,299 people expect more. The price is the problem.
Methinks people underestimate how much "austerity" can cost. Shaving it down to such minimal size & weight ain't cheap. The MBP has enough extra space inside to reduce some costs so the difference can be spent on other things.

Those 90€ also must pay for the mandatory 2 year "warranty" (not as good as AppleCare, but still), higher labour cost for their retail staff, recycling (not sure wether thats also a factor in the US) and probraly a few other things.

I'm fine with labour cost, but the mandatory warranty (it's called "Gewährleistung", real warranty is called "Garantie") is absolutely worthless. After 6 months the customer has to prove that the defect has been already there at the time he bought the product - that's nearly impossible. Of course not every company is that strict, but they could deny service at any time after the first 6 months.

Even I don't care the ddr4, the hd515, and I don't use that low-res FaceTime camera indeed.....

I still think that the 720 HD camera should be put it in with this prices!!

Did anybody seriously think, Apple would add another USB port? Guys, come on.
Yes, and not because it's been a year since the last release, but because this product decision was derided in every single review of the previous model and in countless internet comments from ardent Apple supporters. So yes, I really thought they'd add another USB port for the next release. But then you reminded me it's 2016 Apple and not 2008 Apple.

For everyone complaining about the complainers....I think it has to do with the price of this machine creating the expectation that it should do more given that a 13" MacBook Pro starts at the same price. If the MacBook was priced at $999 (or even $1,099), I think it's perceived limitations would be a lot easier to forgive, but at $1,299 people expect more. The price is the problem.

It's product positioning. The MacBook isn't yet marketed as Apple's "mainstream" notebook. Perhaps it will be in a year or two, but for now it is being marketed to those who value portability and style over everything else. By that standard, it's pricey, but not outrageously pricey, as Samsung and others sell premium Core M-based notebooks at broadly similar prices.

Nearly impossible != impossible -> costs Apple real money

Not that I ever had to try it over an Apple product (fingers crossed).

Actually Not the 1998 Apple ………

(I just watched the "Steve Jobs" bluray last night ! And just remind me what Apple it is now !)

They could have Easily fit a 720p camera.
Stop making ridiculous excuses for them.
Look at all the camera tech in 6mm smartphones in the last year or two. They're getting into 12mp with optical image stabilization.
It's pathetic. Especially at this price.

I suspect in June, the "pro" and "air" labels will disappear and those sizes will be reintroduced into one MacBook line.

Anyone that expected a price drop or more ports on these is missing the target audience. The 13" and 15" models will probably have more of what these forumites are wishing were on these models.

Even my 5 year old MBP has a 720p front facing camera.. are you kidding me with 480?

Still waiting on something worthy to replace it..

The MacBook Air didn't get a second port until October 2010. 2008 Apple upgraded the MacBook Air with a faster SSD and Penryn 9 months after it was released, but Penryn was mostly to address massive throttling issues.

Apple made a conscious decision to equip the MacBook with a single USB-C port. I don't see that changing ever, particularly as USB-C peripherals and hubs become more common, and wireless connections become more ubiquitous.

On another note, it does look like Apple tweaked the battery slightly:
Built-in 41.4-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery

Last year's model I believe was 39.7 watt-hours.

One of the worst things you could do to your battery (phone, laptop, iPad) is to constantly plug and plug it; and that's exactly what a single port does for this one.

Wonder how bad the battery will be after a year or so of use

Planned obsolescence on steroids......with 1 port

The macbook is a cheap, crippled, piece of crap. If it actually costs more to gimp a machine that badly, all the more reason Apple has lost their marbles.

How is it that they didn't get around to updating the FaceTime camera? Hard to believe in 2016 they still offer a Mac with a 480p camera

Have you seen the specs on that piece of garbage? The CPU can't handle real-time video streaming at anything greater than 480p.

Is that going to happen before or after Thunderbolt and FireWire peripherals and hubs become more common?

Gotta stay strong.

I don't need the power of my 15", I can admit that. I basically use it for Word/Excel/Outlook, Lightroom, and VERY light Photoshop. And web browsing. That's pretty much it. But I travel all.the.time and am constantly away from an outlet. The MB definitely calls to me.

Nice! Just need to sell my car to get the 1.3GHz Core m7. I will take the train but I'll be completely happy with my 1.3GHz. Oh yeah! It doesn't get any better than this.

still 22 pages with over 500 posts about a product so bad...and so weak and so hated..but wait?!??! 22 pages and over 500 posts...something is wrong.. .
