Why don't the MacBooks have white keys with backlighting? Why have they always been black and not similar to the other keyboards in the Apple range?

b.c each individual key as it's own LED compared to a "backlight" It is actually really easy on the eyes only seeing the glow of the letter/number on the key.

Underwhelming all the way around. Still stuck with two compromise devices just like we were yesterday.

My daughter is going to college this fall and wanted a Mac for graduation. I'm sure her eyes will get all shiny over the Rose Gold MacBook. I was dreaming of an updated screen for the MBA...(knew it wasn't going to happen though).

I say this as a Ph.D student, unless your kid is doing high end video work a macbook will be fine. I would get a bigger hard drive if she takes lots of pictures (virtually every girl I know does) and 128 gb hard drive will fill up quick (or upgrade her iCloud to 50gb of storage for photos, it's like $1 a month) and an upgrade to 8gb of ram.

I don't know what else you want or need. Movies still look great, photos look great, you can work all day and it's plenty powerful for writing papers.

If she is doing filmography and wants to make movies, maybe go up to the Macbook Pro. But it's not like having a spec'd out Macbook Pro will help her get better grades. As someone who grades papers, some of my best students work in the student lab for hours and don't even own a computer.

Realizing the prices of Intel core m vs. core i5 CPUs are close, the decision becomes one of the importance of low-weight/long-battery-life vs. considerably more processing power. Perhaps the debate might consider that at la fraction of the cost of a core m macbook is an AX9 ipad loaded with judiciously selected apps, USB adapter and keyboard.

And updated exactly like I predicted. Never expected anything other than a Skylake update with no other major changes. Still a fantastic super-portable.
Still no rMBP... at least we know it must be soon if the standard MB got Skylake already
We don't know **** about the rMBP update. It may never happen. And if it does happen it might be rubbish.

what you doing your phD in?

What gave you the impression I was surprised?

As a long-term Apple fan I have gone through the various well-known stages...
1) I initially said I wasn't a fan of Apple (because I couldn't afford their products).
2) Once I could afford them, I defended my purchases and Apple's design choices (often irrationally).
3) I went through several years of expecting the 'next' product announcement to be the one that reveals something as groundbreaking as the original iMac/iPod/iPhone etc.

...I have now progressed to the final stage...

4) I still love the design/idea of Apple products, but have become used to being continually disappointed.

Ok. I think we have more in common than I thought. You basically just described me, but need to add 5)

5) Patiently waiting until the next great thing, and saving a bunch of money by doing so.

For everyone complaining about the complainers....I think it has to do with the price of this machine creating the expectation that it should do more given that a 13" MacBook Pro starts at the same price. If the MacBook was priced at $999 (or even $1,099), I think it's perceived limitations would be a lot easier to forgive, but at $1,299 people expect more. The price is the problem.

Yes, but why not have the keys colored white with black text. Then in the dark, the keys light up, with white text. It would be equally pleasant and look great.

It's a lot of engineering to get white keys to glow uniformly.

That's what the 19% tax is for, but the 90€ difference between 1360€ and 1450€ is going straight into Apple's pocket.

Those 90€ also must pay for the mandatory 2 year "warranty" (not as good as AppleCare, but still), higher labour cost for their retail staff, recycling (not sure wether thats also a factor in the US) and probraly a few other things.

Might also be that Apple is expecting an even lower € and doesn't want to adapt prices every 2nd week.

The iPad Pro 256GB model is $1,268.00 with the keyboard.

Wow. Apple has some balls to charge this much money for a computer that is this under-powered. I was certain that when they finally refreshed this model, that there'd be at least one more USB-C port, a processor that wasn't designed for a Texas Instruments graphing calculator and a new entry price of $999. Guess I was dead wrong. Apple is losing, if not already have lost, touch with their base. I just don't get it. Sure, they'll sell a ton of the pink ones just because it's different, but some PC OEM will come along and copy it anyway. Nice Apple.

So they just need to update the video to say 2016.

I've finally figured out that new Apple Products are driven by their out of date inventory of parts.
Tim Cook doesn't want to write off anything (take any loses).
He challenges the engineers to build products like the 2015 Macbook to consume those inventories of mediocre parts.
Tim is turning potential losses into profits. Consumers get mediocre products with 3 year old tech, but love it for some reason.

Barely 1 minute in and already >10 complainers.
If you complain it is NOT for you.
I'm not going to read through 500 comments to see whether anybody else said this, but "it's not for you" is way too simplistic. We have one of the first gen ones here because it seemed clearly to be the perfect machine for my partner, a writer. It seemed ideal. But it didn't work out to be ideal, mainly because of the one port. Yes, we knew it had only one port, but that's not the same as learning how troublesome that can be -- in actual use. The rest of it has been "for us," but that single port kills the deal. We're reluctantly going to get rid of it soon, and my partner's going to miss everything about it except the single-port headaches.

I ONLY mad about on 1 thing.......

Is that the 720 HD FaceTime front camera cost a lot ????????????????????

Insanely ridiculous!!!
