Check the GPU's people. 9600GT is now at $1999...

Again, just as in the other thread: the 9600GT always was in the $1999 model. There's never been a 9600GT (or 8600GT) for less than $1999. You act like something was taken away from you. There never was a 15" model for $1699. Period.

Is that hard drive and ram still user replaceable?

Anyone know if the hard drive and ram are still user replaceable in the 13 and 15 inch macbook pros (without having to remove 20+ screws like in the former non unibody macbook pros)?

rename to macbook pro might mean a transition away from the white ones that will eventually be the name for the tablets???

Just the same as the 17" MacBook Pro.

=(

Well this sucks. Just got this one. I guess now it is a rareity to have the 13'' macbook w/o backlit keyboard and SD card slot, haha.

I could just sell it maybe. 1k?

Why would "MacBook" be used to refer to a tablet PC?

It seems quite clear Apple is intent on keeping the white polycarbonate "MacBook" line going. My guess is that over time, the price will continue to go down, and it will see fewer and fewer updates, and thus it will be Apple's "budget PC" line.

I doubt there will be a tablet PC, but if there is, it will probably be called "MacTab" or something stupid.

anyone notice the 13" Pro (or unibody MacBook) doesn't have a dedicated line-in port now?

Great! FireWire is back.

But what is with the Canadian prices? $100 price drop in the US, the Canadian dollar is up to near parity with the US, yet the 13" price stays at $1399.

Still, it is a very sweet machine for $1399.

Finallyyyyy I'll be buying the new Macbook. Does anyone know when they ship to stores? I know it's available online but I called 2 Apple stores here in NY and it's not in stock yet. They didn't know when it was coming in either. I hope it's soon!

Same boat here. It feels like I have been waiting for this exact update for ages. I think I am just going to buy online via the Apple Store with my student discount. I figure the stores will take at least a day or two to stock the new MBP 13".

That is awesome! I am sure a lot of people will be all over it. i might have ahd to look long and hard at this when I was making my last purchase but I still like my 15"!

This is definitely the happiest day of my life. This is such a deal. I just don't know what to do. Thank you, Apple. It's about time you gave this thing a price cut AND improved awesomeness.

I have to agree! I was only asking for FireWire to make a comeback in the new MacBook, but they totally blew me away with adding all other MBP features STANDARD plus a price drop!

This should quell virtually all of the MacBook complaints out there!

I'm not crazy about the non-user-replaceable battery, but if it really improves battery life the way they say it does, I'm willing to give it a shot.

Au contraire, my friend. As I have the last gen unibody I'm looking forward for a great resale value! :D

13" is now in the pro family with similar specs and better LED screen. :)

we need some comparisons to the previous model...fastttt!!! LOL

the 13" with 8gb ram  that is sick!! although apple's price on the ram upgrade is out of this world....still...at least it's confirmed to take the 8 gb.

And what you're not crazy about will now replace FireWire as the #1 complaint of the new MacBook Pro (all models): the non-replaceable battery.

Some will prefer having longer battery life, others will dislike that now they have to pay Apple even more money for its battery replacement service.

As usual, there are many new things to like about the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and some new things to hate.

I hate to bitch, but...

OK, 13" Macbook Pro = awesome, BUT:

13" MBP US price = $1199

13" MBP UK price = £1299

According to www.oanda.com/convert/classic ;

Monday, June 8, 2009
1,199 US Dollar = 750.609 British Pound

£1299 - £750.61 = £548.39 or $875.98 discrepancy.

THIS. IS. A. F**KING. JOKE. :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Seriously, if you shop around you could fly not one but 2 people to New York from the UK for that price difference!

WTF Apple?!?!

ugh, I love this new macbook except the canadian price is still $1400!! and the CDN dollar is rising to nearly the same as the US dollar! What gives Apple!

This is probably one of the most advantageous offers ever to grace Apple's current lineup, which is simply THE BEST of the whole industry; the revamped MBP 13" is unbeatable in its segment, and the perfect replacement for those G4 12" worshipers.

In fact, there is simply no comparison with the "competition", given the absolutely superior OS, the lower prices, the return of FW and the best screens of the market.

GO APPLE! MS IS DEAD. AND BURIED.

Wow. NIce update. Better screen and lwoer price sell me along with the cpu and battery bump. Nice.

Wow, I am completely stunned. I thought this was going to be all about the iPhone and then Apple drops the bombshell. I can now get a macbook for 1099 on student discount with backlit keyboard, firewire 800, updated processor and 8gb of ram capacity. Unbelievable. I'll be purchasing as soon as the first reviews begin surfacing.

I do however, feel really bad for those folks who just bought a macbook. You paid more money for less. I know some friends that are going to be pissed.

its $1300 if you're a student, which is a $100 discount instead of the cheapo $50 they had before
