And what you're not crazy about will now replace FireWire as the #1 complaint of the new MacBook Pro (all models): the non-replaceable battery.

Some will prefer having longer battery life, others will dislike that now they have to pay Apple even more money for its battery replacement service.

As usual, there are many new things to like about the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and some new things to hate.

The non-replaceable battery is WAYS better than any other replaceable version, given its much higher duration on one charge and its fantastic estimated lifecycle, which absolutely ERASES the need for a spare one.

In summary, the non-replaceable battery is a NON-ISSUE.

Same boat here. It feels like I have been waiting for this exact update for ages. I think I am just going to buy online via the Apple Store with my student discount. I figure the stores will take at least a day or two to stock the new MBP 13".

I've been waiting for this update since April so I can wait a couple more days for the Apple store to get them in stock lol. I plan on going to the Apple store in NYC on 5th Ave which is open 24/7 so I'm hoping they'll get the shipment in tonight or something.

I guess Apple is afraid of offering a sub-$1000 notebook. Why drop the price on the 13" aluminum and not on the the white MacBook? For only a $200 difference, I'd think most people would go with the 13" MacBook Pro.

Hmm, yes i wonder why make people buy the aluminium macbook pro 13", so that apple makes a bigger profit. Seriously think about it, new MBP 13">MB, the more MBPs 13" sold the more profit

FireWire makes a welcome comeback on the MacBook as Apple gets the design "right" on this new revision. Time to see what controller they used.

The non-replaceable battery might be worth the suffering it might cause.

This too, I bet that apple purposely excluded firewire, a) so that white MBs sell better b) have something to offer customers in the next update, which, wait a minute, it just did.

Personally I consider this update useless, ok cheaper price, wow, seriously it does not change much, renaming it to MBP, stupid it is not as powerful, faster processor, useless in gaming, sd slot, ehh, had it on my old laptop and never used it, i can use usb can't i? Ok firewire, before i got a mac i did not know what is firewire before i got a macbook and saw that there was an issue that it was missing.

MBP 15" update is much more interesting: longer life battery (true its also in new MBP 13"), up 3.06GHZ, up 8GB RAM. True however that it cost 2500 CHF which is too expensive for me to want but hey ill wait for about 2 years and get a new one.

OK, 13" Macbook Pro = awesome, BUT:

13" MBP US price = $1199

13" MBP UK price = £1299

According to www.oanda.com/convert/classic ;

Monday, June 8, 2009
1,199 US Dollar = 750.609 British Pound

£1299 - £750.61 = £548.39 or $875.98 discrepancy.

THIS. IS. A. F**KING. JOKE. :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Seriously, if you shop around you could fly not one but 2 people to New York from the UK for that price difference!

WTF Apple?!?!

Are you sure??? The prices I see are completely different...
899 GBP and 1149 GBP for slower and for faster MBP 13 respectively

Can these boot from SD?
Was thinking the exact same thing - although running OS X from SD strikes me as slow, there are some variants of Linux that could do this nicely. I'm also wondering if a small market of SD devices will emerge, nothing as fancy as additional USB or Firewire, but aren't there SD WiMAX cards out there that might work with the right drivers?

If the SD card goes in completely flush, it would also be a great way to add gigabytes of on-the-fly storage quickly -- what are SDs up to these days? 32GB? 64GB?

ugh, I love this new macbook except the canadian price is still $1400!! and the CDN dollar is rising to nearly the same as the US dollar! What gives Apple!

I think it is a pretty fair price. We're down a bit today.

$1 usd = $1.116 CDN. So $1200 USD = $1339 CDN. $60 out of pocket isn't too terrible.

This was a very interesting move by Apple ... it gets me thinking ... What does Apple have up its sleeve?

The price drop is a nice move.

Can these boot from SD?
The current 13" unibody MacBook can boot from a SD card when using a USB card reader so I don't know why it wouldn't work with the new integrated card reader. With some effort you can make a boot image on an 8GB card, but 16GB is much more practical.

£1299 - £750.61 = £548.39 or $875.98 discrepancy.

13" 2.26GHz - USA $1199 ~ £756 - Actual Price £899
13" 2.53GHz - USA $1499 ~ £945 - Actual Price £1149

15" 2.53GHz - USA $1699 ~ £1071 - Actual Price £1299
15" 2.66GHz - USA $1999 ~ £1260 - Actual Price £1499
15" 2.80GHz - USA $2299 ~ £1449 - Actual Price £1699

What you on about.

US: Base 13" MacBook Pro - $1199
UK: base 13" MacBook Pro - £899

£150 more than a direct currency exchange, but there's other factors to take into consideration.

They've updated it. Good thing I hadn't refreshed the page so could get a screenshot:

Someone willbeat me to this? Please correct me if im wrong! I was also just looking ong the UK store for the 13" pros. but im sure the prices were:

Low-end: £899
High-end: £1149

and not the £1299 you mention. or have I missed something?

Just bought a new 13 in MBP with 4 gigs ram and 320 gig hd. Can't wait till it arrives.

SJ said a while back that Firewire was a Pro feature. It was the only way (calling the uMB a Pro) they could put it back in without saying that they had made a mistake taking it out in the first place.

Gotta say....I'm tempted to upgrade my White MacBook now.

They made a mistake. The first price I saw was also £1299, I thought the boards were going to drown in "BLOODY APPLE AND THEIR UK PRICES" posts again.

I wish they'd do SOMETHING to the Macbook (other than minor upgrades). Based on my friends' experiences I think the plastic shell's a piece of (fill in the blank). But if my computer dies tomorrow I don't want to spend £900 on what's now a "pro" machine.

On the bright side, lovers of the 12" Powerbook happy? Other than the glossy screen obviously . . .

SIGH!
That's the same price as BEFORE!!! No discount in Canada..:(

But at least the student discount makes it $1299.

US Student discount brings it to $1099!

Similar change in Sweden... Some prices pretty much stayed put, other's got bumped.
