I am looking to purchase the 13in Macbook Pro with student discount, any one know why it displays "The page you're looking for can't be found." after I choose my University? I am on the Canadian website.

Apple needs to start offering Blu-Ray on their laptops and desktops. this is freaking ridiculous how long it is taking them to support the format.

They don't even have to offer models which burn BD discs, they can offer BD reading superdrives, and offer BD burning as an option.

BR is an expensive, cumbersome and stillborn technology that no one seems to care about, especially with high Internet speeds getting more and more accessible to everyone...BR for what? Backups? Come on, Apple is extremely wise to keep a good distance from that piece of crap.

Nice upgrades. I'm glad I waited to get my daughter a computer for college.

Agreed! My older niece is going to college this Fall, and I've been telling family to wait to see if something better comes out from Apple (better, as in putting Firewire back on the computer). I was going to recommend the white Macbook, but will now advise family to get the MacBook Pro 13" now. This thing looks incredible. Now I need to save up to get my own - I still have the old white Macbook (early 2008), with the lesser integrated graphics... :(

Are you on your university network? You have to be online at uni to get to the higher education store.

Works fine with me
Chose University of British Columbia for my school.

If you take the 15% UK VAT out of the UK pricing and then compare against the US price it gives a conversion rate of $1.53/£1 for the basic 13" MacBook Pro. This is actually quite close to the actual exchange rate between sterling and dollars right now.

I think it's not as bad a deal for us in the UK as it appears to be. Of course I'd like it cheaper, though!

They brought back the $100 discount on the now low-end 13" MBP. Prior to today the Macbook was $1299 to $1249 with the education discount. Now it is $1199 to $1099. Very impressive. The White Macbook is still $999 to $949 ($50). So the difference for students between the White Macbook is $150 ($949 to $1099).

I'm still wondering about the display in the White Macbook and whether or not they are using the higher quality displays that were supposedly in the unibodies since April.

They made a mistake. The first price I saw was also £1299, I thought the boards were going to drown in "BLOODY APPLE AND THEIR UK PRICES" posts again.

I'm really happy it was a mistake, but seriously, how difficult is it to work out your price points in different markets and put measures in place to have the website display the correct price in each market at product launch? FFS Apple.

New product slips can be permission issues on a webserver, much more understandable than showing a completely wrong price on a brand new product.

On the bright side, lovers of the 12" Powerbook happy? Other than the glossy screen obviously . . .

As a former 12" PB owner, I would be extremely happy with this 13" MBP as a replacement :)

I'll be buying sometime in August.

Is it possible to get both the back to school promo (ipod rebate) along with the student discount?

OK, 13" Macbook Pro = awesome, BUT:

13" MBP US price = $1199

13" MBP UK price = £1299

According to www.oanda.com/convert/classic ;

Monday, June 8, 2009
1,199 US Dollar = 750.609 British Pound

£1299 - £750.61 = £548.39 or $875.98 discrepancy.

THIS. IS. A. F**KING. JOKE. :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Seriously, if you shop around you could fly not one but 2 people to New York from the UK for that price difference!

WTF Apple?!?!

I don't know about UK, but here in Mexico the price that appears in the Apple Store is inclusive of VAT (15% here). Once you add the 15% to the US prices, the rough difference is about 40 USD. Not too much.

Wow! What's not too like about this?

One thing, that doesn't seem have gained much attention, is that they appear to have removed audio line-in from the 13" Macbook "Pro"

Actually - edit....

Judging from the spec sheet it may be a combined in/out in one socket, with some software switch I presume. Still kinda crap.

I guess Steve Jobs finally sees the value of firewire in the entire Macbook line?

I'm glad to see that the oversight was corrected.

The addition of an SD slot and better screen are huge pluses.

It may actually convince me to give the Macbook Pro a chance instead of just buying an iMac.

13" Macbook Pro... gotta get used to the name. I already ordered the one with Cohones. Nice that it's got the 4GB RAM and the SD slot (is it SDHC? that would be neat for fast swap disks, right?). It's interesting that the removed line-in port made room for a wide SD card slot and a firewire 800. No space for firewire my ass.:D

I'm curious about those better displays. I hear they were already updated in April. Are those even better? The 7 hour battery life is intriguing, too.

Rev B Apple hardware for the world! :p

I wonder what else is missing. Seems Apple took great advantage in everyone focusing on the firewire issue.

You can switch between line in and line out via software it seems. Or use an iPhone-style headset to get a mic input and stereo output.
