So, for the record, even doing the 10min open + 10min closed hasn't done anything (yes they are in the case and case plugged into a cord). Still stuck on 4B52.
Anyone have a recommendation on goat breed?
After all that try rebooting phone should show new update

This update broke my AirPod Pros. The left channel will not play when connected to my 14" MBP. And, if I insert only the left AirPod in my ear it will play but when I then put the right AirPod in, the left channel cuts out... Have reconnected, repaired, rebooted etc. No joy.

They still work fine with iOS devices.
Make sure that on OSX your audio output is not set to right channel only in system preferences. For some reason that was the case for me with my AirPods Max when I set up my new MacBook

Nothing worked all day, then I restarted my phone and started charging that instead of the airpods pro. It updated finally after this.

Any truth to the rumor that the flood of this-definitely-works-open-them-close-them-lay-them-gently-next-to-the-iPhone-while-humming-“Send-in-The-Clowns” instructions is what triggered the AWS outage?

This is the third time I get them updated by forgetting them from my devices; push the button then link them to my iPad, for some reason my phone never updates them. With an iPad (that's also not running the iOS Beta), they have consistently updated this past few times just by leaving them be

So I finally got them updated and now I want to chuck my AirPods out the window. Device switching was already bad and irritating. Now they’ll randomly connect to my MacBook while I’m watching something, WHILE THE AIRPODS ARE IN THE CASE AND CLOSED. Holy bananas this is annoying. Last night it kept saying “AirPods connected” and cutting off my external headphones audio about 15 times. I even put them in another room and it still kept doing it. I had to turn off my Bluetooth for it to stop. Once I gathered patience again I turned off automatic device switching. It shouldn’t be doing this while they’re closed in the case though.

I listened to music on my Pro's for about five minutes, then put them into the case, plugged the case into the charger, and set my phone next to the case. 10 minutes later I took them out, put them in my ears, and they were updated. Not noticing any differences yet.

First impressions (I listen to these every morning for 4 hours straight with the same songs/playlist)

1. Volume seems a little lower. I have to turn it up higher than I remember (it may be because its not the morning) will check back tomorrow morning to confirm.

2. Sound is more separated, the instruments and vocals have more detail and spacing. I can hear the depth of the instruments and the placement of sound better than before. (audiophiles call this "sound imaging" or "soundstage").

Will listen to them for a few more hours and let you guys know if its placebo or not.
Whoa...you listen to the same 4 hour playlist EVERY DAY?!?!?

Not criticizing, just curious...why? Workout mix or something? How often do you modify that playlist?

Anyway, more on topic: thanks for the impressions! Still trying to get mine to update.

Confessing that I never know what is just the power of suggestion, but I believe that background noise in transparency mode is somewhat louder, distractingly so.

Meanwhile—Fingers crossed that the battery drain, which I was sort of comforted to see so many others here report, will be better.

I can confirm that the connection distance (on my pair) has decreased by about ~5 feet.

Audio cuts out 5 feet shorter than before, all things being equal

How would folks feel about a separate thread for Mostly Untrue and Meaningless Voodoo Tips for Forcing an AirPods Update, so that the rest of the update threads could be about what's actually updated?

Something about the case update?
2. Days since the update : first night lost 6%
Fully recharged: last night didn’t lose anything
This morning both case and AirPods are @ 100%
Will update in two or 3 days

It sounds like there is a similar amount of bass now when in off mode (no NC and no transparency). Previously, there was little bass in comparison to NC and transparency modes.

I thought I had AirPods 2 & 3....
Version 3 updated easily, and what I thought was v.2 was not updating.
Understandable when I realized it was AirPods 1 & 3 I had ?

Well, they (v.1) are still usable for certain things, not used for music much though.

i can't connect to macbook anymore.. i see the airpods icon with the correct name but the click doesn't sort any effect.
Any suggestion?

Case battery drain: seems to be still present! 25% in 24hours

Your first line contains your own answer! Lol. Just sign in to the devices you want! Then, like magic, it will work!! And, no, I read no further than your first line. What did I miss??
I think you missed the fact that that's a truly insane idea that would create a whole host of much more serious problems. Take literally ten seconds to think through what it would mean to sign into your Apple ID on someone else's device.

You'll loose announce function for full hands-free notifications (apps and iMessages, alerts, Cal appts/meetings, etc).

Also what is the weight or comfort over long term? The Jabra Elite 7 Actives beat the liberty's by a few reviewers. Small ligther package ... but still uncomfortable (inner ear pressure) over 1.45hrs for me.
I haven't watched many review on the Jabra 7's but I see that they're a little more expensive and do not have multipoint connection which for me is a bigger feature requirement than notification announcements. I need earbuds to quickly switch device connection as fast as my AirPods Pro do and from my experience multipoint connection is the closest thing to that.

I have the same impression as you, that sound is more separated. I like it!
