Apple today announced that the AirPods Max are being updated with a USB-C charging port and new color options, including Midnight, Blue, Purple, Orange, and Starlight.

In addition, Apple said the AirPods Max are gaining support for Personalized Spatial Audio with the upcoming iOS 18 software update.

The updated AirPods Max will be available to pre-order for $549 starting today, and the headphones launch on Friday, September 20.

Apple did not announce any other changes for the AirPods Max during its event.

Apple first released the AirPods Max with a Lightning port in December 2020, and the changes announced today are very minor, to the point that Apple does not appear to be referring to the new headphones as AirPods Max 2.

They just came in and said our cheapest basic AirPods have all these wonderful features with a new H2 chip that are basically AirPods Pro without tips… and come in saying our best AirPods Max have new colors and USB C! Same high price!

I just got slapped in the face

Haha. So lame. Come awn Apple.

Sad they didn’t address the biggest issue with the first gen, just how heavy and massive these freaking things are.

I’m a big, 6’5”, 215 lbs dude that still finds my first gen Maxes to be sooo heavy and fatiguing. When you move or turn your head, you feel the mass of these things and their initerial resistance. I’m all for pretty things, Apple, with nice materials, but not at the expense of comfort and usability. Get back to the lab and use materials that are much, much lighter

Wow, I can only imagine how analysts will model how many ppl will now rush out and add APM to their audio equipment library… no update, in what nearly FOUR YEARS! WTH apple.

Is this now basically the longest a product has gone with essentially zero actual updates (ok, adding a modern charging port is not an update IMHO)
