Clear that Apple wants to milk this same product for as long as they can.
I can't believe they couldn't at least update the chip. They could keep the same physical design but at least offer the features from H2.

The biggest joke yet. I was so ready to buy a version 2. But the same price for a four year old product? No thanks…

I like my AirPods Max, but the experience of switching devices and the noise cancelation is very noticeably worse than the AirPods Pro 2s. It's not a small difference, the AirPods Pro 2 are way better. Way way better.
I really think Apple is missing the boat here... if they made an effort to make these cheaper, like, a plastic version that was $349, I think these would be insanely popular.
$549 is just an insane price. No one should buy this model.

Im guessing when version 2 comes out it will have the H3 or H4 chip.
It took courage to retain the high price, the heavy ugly design, the ridiculous carrying case, and the lack of included accessories.
It’s in line with how Apple treats the Mac Pro line. Niche product, brings in less money in total than the cheaper product lines.
You don’t get more consideration from Apple if you pay more, only if your demographic as a whole brings in more 🤑.
These are just bragging rights products for Apple.
I’m hearing that they don’t. If no H2 chip, then I’m not sure why they bothered to make this refresh.

Headband is a piece of junk, the fabric stretches if you wear it a lot, resulting in a very uncomfortable and heavy set of cans.

Haven't Airpods been receiving sound quality adjustments through firmware updates since their release? Bigger changes people were hoping for would have to be either phyisical or to ANC. I suppose they could add a wired lossless playback option, but they don't want them to be wired headphones.

The Beats model is the one you are looking with a cheaper price and most of the features.
Just the the lighting port version on sale, it was 399 in BestBuy not long ago. Just wait for the sale to clean out that inventory and you will be more than happy at that price point or get the Beats at an even cheaper price.
Would have been better if they just quietly released the Max update sometime else during the year.
To be fair the H100 are like 3 times the price of AirPod Max.
