Fingers crossed this finally fixes all the auto-switching issues. Got so sick of taking a bud out to listen to someone and the AirPods would then auto-switch to my other device that I wasn’t even using and wasn’t playing anything! 😩

Happily using my on-ear AirPods gen 2. Not interested with in-ear products. But that’s just me. ;)
Me too. Went back to V2s as the pros are horrible or they don't fit me correctly. I always have to think about them: putting them in right, constantly adjusting, and never passing a fit test with different variants of ear tips. I hope the V3s are like the renders. Best of both worlds.

Apple needs to add a way to manually update the AirPods.
I agree! No reason why they have to be updated in this unorthodox way. Case in point, my AirPods Pro stays at work most of the time as they're mostly used as my at work earbuds so unless I bring them home, then I can't guarantee they'll be getting the update right away... Fix this, Apple!

Apple is cutting production of its ultra-popular AirPods by around 25% to 30% due to a decrease in sales

Apple just found a way to kickstart sales again.

You just need a little update.

Well I got the update to take. I have no idea what is changed, but I also noticed nothing in any of the previous updates.

And the reason you posted it in an article about an update on airpods??
Just clarifying, AirPods and AirPods pro are in ear. Just one has squishy tips but they're both considered in-ear headphone.
AirPods Max are on-ear.

ummm is it just me or did it update on its own when I updated my iPhone 12 to 14.5 yesterday cause its been on this firmware when I saw this article or did it update on its own lol

I'm really hoping that this firmware update fixes some of the issues I've been experiencing. I love my AirPods, but lately they've had a lot of issues connecting to my devices automatically (and they'll often disconnect themselves when I remove them for a short amount of time).

Not to mention, the "magical" switching from device to device via iCloud has been causing more problems than it's worth. For example, I'll have my iPad open and ready to watch something with my phone asleep in my pocket, and it will still opt to connect to my phone instead of the iPad.

Big Sur 11.3 had AirPods updates, so it would make sense if these were corresponding updates.

- ‌AirPods‌ audio routing to incorrect device for Automatic Switching
- ‌AirPods‌ Automatic Switching notifications might be missing or duplicated
I hope so. I've got two sets of gen 2 that have been basically unusable for many months now because they won't hold a connection. I don't know if they are switching between devices or just dropping. I've tried all the suggested fixes but to no avail. Fingers crossed...

Does anyone have a problem with AirPod Pro just randomly disconnecting? Sometimes the sound will go out but it looks like music still continuing but if I restart app it works again.

Has there been any evidence of Apple addressing the battery longevity problem with AirPods?

My first generation AirPods, purchased a week or so after release, died last year. That's a very short life for such an expensive item that cannot get a battery swap. I didn't even use them that heavily!

I *enjoyed* my AirPods greatly when I did use them, but I can't see myself buying another pair unless I know they'll last longer than three years. It's the product's biggest flaw.

I’m not sure that they can do much about that as the batteries in each pod are very tiny. I think a three year shelf life is quite good for batteries that small that are constantly being recharged.
