Apple today released a new firmware update for the AirPods Pro, upgrading the previous firmware, version 2C54 or 2B588, to the new firmware, 2D15.

There is no word on what's new in the refreshed firmware at this time, though there have been some complaints from AirPods Pro users about Active Noise Cancellation issues with the prior firmware.

There's no clear cut way to upgrade the firmware of the AirPods Pro, with the new firmware installed over-the-air while the AirPods are connected to an iOS device. Putting the ?AirPods? in the case, connecting the ?AirPods? to a power source, and then pairing the ?AirPods? to an iPhone or an iPad should force the update after a short period of time.

Check your AirPods Pro firmware by following these steps:
  1. Make sure the ?AirPods? are connected to your iOS device.
  2. Open the Settings app.
  3. Tap General.
  4. Tap About.
  5. Tap ?AirPods?.
  6. Look at the number next to "Firmware Version."
Apple in December released the 2C54 firmware update, but later pulled it, so some people who updated have the 2C54 firmware while others are still on 2B588.

AirPods Pro firmware updates often include performance improvements, bug fixes, and feature tweaks, but we may not find out what's new as Apple does not provide any kind of release notes for ?AirPods updates. There is no update for the standard AirPods at this time.

I can even find it on about, and when music playing, sometimes AirPods turns off and on

When I got the Airpods Pro, they had the 2b588 firmware, and when I updated to the 3rd firmware version, the ANC was so much worse that I returned them. I purchased another pair and was careful to keep them on 2b588.

Like everyone else, my Airpods updated to 2D15 despite my efforts to prevent it, but the ANC sounds just as good as the 2b588 to my ear. The bass response sounds better, too. Whew!

And I should follow up to my post that you're responding to here … I did try them out outside and the ANC there is impressive. It blocked out all the background noise from the highway a few miles away, from traffic, even the trees rustling in the wind. I even wore them to mow the lawn (no music, just ANC) and while not as quiet as general ear protection, they did a very good job.

Nothing hast gotten better for me on 2D15. At this point I can only use my left AirPod Pro and only with ANC or Transparency turned off. The right one sounds blown. The crackling is way too bad unless turned off.

Then why don't you get them replaced? There's obviously something wrong with your AirPods, which might not pertain to firmware.

These are known problems independent of firmware. Your AirPods are broken and they need to be replaced. Unfortunately the problem will probably occur with the replacement pair eventually as well.

I got a replacement and the problem was solved. I really think these are prone to blowing.

I’ve had 2D15 update for awhile and all of a sudden the last two three days I’ve noticed I have to switch off of AirPods Pro to speaker phone and back for them to work during a call. When I checked my firmware it is on 2D27. Any advice?
