How did you do that? I can't seem to get the bootcamp 5 installer to run under Windows 10

I haven't had to do this for a few years so a bit rusty on details but can point you in the correct direction

You can edit the bootcamp setup installer file so it does not check what version of windows you are running, just google for this and you will find easy instructions on how to do this, but make sure you have the correct version of bootcamp for your system config

Some of the drivers can be run manually to update by simply looking at the directory/files on the usb for the set-up or exe files etc, but this method will not cover all the drivers eg I think the main bootcamp control panel on the system tray is not installed this way

A few can be installed by using update driver from control panel/system and pointing to the directory on your usb

Hope that helps sorry I can't be more specific for you but editing the install file is by far the simplest and most complete if windows bootcamp set-up is failing due to the windows version

Totally agree with this.

Whilst I can understand to a degree if you are saying the trackpad is superior under OSX to bootcamp windows I'm slightly at odds when comparing typical windows track pads quality to Apple

Additionally given that there are add-on drivers like Trackpad++ that should give you your possible missing functionality:

Benefits of the Trackpad++ driver (vs. Boot Camp 5.1 stock trackpad driver):
  • 2-, 3- and 4-finger gestures, such as pinch-to-zoom, back / forward, middle mouse button emulation, new Windows® 8 gestures and much more;
  • Dramatically improved 2-finger scrolling experience: Mac® OS X Mavericks-similar (accelerated / natural) scrolling model implemented;
  • Improved pointer ballistics (i.e. how the pointer speed depends on the finger speed; comes with 6 built-in optimal presets);
  • Mac® OS X-like 3-finger dragging and classic '2-fingers with click' dragging, option to increase the pointer speed when dragging;
  • User-customizable option to ignore the accidental trackpad input when typing, and many more useful tweaks / enhancements;
  • Trackpad++ Control Module for adjusting the trackpad settings (all of the possible settings put together conveniently;
  • Full, native support of Windows® 7 (32-bit / 64-bit), Windows® 8 / 8.1 (32-bit / 64-bit), and Windows® 10 (64-bit).

I upgraded my 2005 Macbook pro and late 2008 Macbook pro on bootcamp to windows 10 last weekend. Both are successfully upgraded to Windows 10, the 2005 Macbook pro is suprisely fast, the Mac portion is very slow due to low memory(only support up to 3GB). So windows 10 is brought it back of live. All the driver is still working. For late 2008 Macbook pro, the trackpad driver is lost after the upgrade, have to find old driver from bootcamp support file and reinstall in order to work, other than that, everything works fine. But I still don't see boot camp 6 update available from apple update app.
therefore..apple needed to support classic mac pro then.

I googled it without success. Can anyone provide more Information?

My Mac mini mid 2011 (i7-2620M, 2,7GHz, AMD Radeon HD 6630M) is absolutely not ready for being retired.

Every hint and help is highly appreciated.

LOL. Okay.

And the company who assembled the PC took complete ownership of making sure their hardware works as well as possible with the OS, instead of playing the "throw it over the fence" game with Microsoft.

That's the thing that made me look over the whole post again. Apple does not take complete ownership of whether or not Windows is running as well as possible.

Have a look at this thread for some ideas as there seems an easy way to use elevated admin cmd function to run BootCamp.msi and not the setup file http://www.videograndpa.com/?p=2628

OK, thanks for this part pf installing bootcamp on unsupported mac.

How to force Install of unsupported Windows. I read to fool the Installroutine with a supported Windows DVD (e.g. 8.1) and after the check to switch the DVD with the desired Windows Version(i.e. 10). But how can i do that job with an Windows ISO on an USB stick?

Or would be the easiest way with an external DVD-Drive? Would an external Samsung-DVD do the job?

Thanks in advance.

I assume your trying to do a clean install of windows 10, remember to do this without 1st installing windows 7,8,8.1 you must have an activation key by either buying one or by previously upgrading to windows 10 from 7,8,8.1 (regardless of getting bootcamp to work) and extracting your new activation key using a utility

If you don't have the activation key then you should load windows 7,8,8.1 1st, then upgrade to 10 by DL 10 using the Microsoft support utility to copy to a USB or ISO file then run that from windows, you can try and load your bootcamp drivers before doing the 10 upgrade and again after if some aspects are not working properly.

If you do have a windows 10 activation key you could of used the windows 10 DL ISO file when you created your USB thumb drive with your old bootcamp drivers from the bootcamp utilities in OSX

thx @SteveJUAE , but my Question is:

Will Apple Bootcamp let me install Windows 10? What hack must be applied? (The part to knstall the drivers and how to hack this is answered)

I haven't tried it, because i can't kill my running System yet.

It should and you will soon find out if it won't :)

*whistling* the answer is blowing in the wind...

Ok, then i misunderstood or anticipated the probs of the old macs where apple didn't let the users install win8, so they had to trick with the win7 DVD... ?

Of course i have to try, but i ant to be prepared for this "project".

I also have read that it is mandatory to install the hfs-drivers from bc6 beacuse there is a VSS-prob in win 10. So probs are everywhere *being paranoid*

Cheers.

Apple today released an update to Boot Camp with support for Microsoft Windows 10, according to a new support document. The update, Boot Camp 6, is still propagating and is not yet available for OS X. However, several MacRumors forum members have noted the update is available within Windows partitions in Boot Camp, Apple's tool to allow Intel Mac owners to dual boot OS X and Windows.

Boot Camp 6 also includes support for several Mac features within Windows 10, including USB 3, USB-C, Thunderbolt, built-in SD and SDXC card slots, built-in or external Apple SuperDrives, and the Apple keyboard, mouse and trackpad.

Windows 10 support is only available on select Macs with OS X Yosemite and the latest version of Boot Camp, which will automatically download the support software (drivers) needed to use Windows 10 on a Mac.

Boot Camp requires an authentic copy of Windows 10 for a new installation, which can be purchased from Microsoft in an ISO file or USB stick for $119. Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 users can upgrade to Windows 10 for free from within their Windows partition as long as the user's software is completely up to date.

I'm posting this on my 15" 2007 Macbook Pro running Windows 10 on OS X Yosemite version of Bootcamp. Runs quite well folks. I didn't run into any hiccups other than the fact that this system would only allow me to install Windows 10 32-bit although this is a 64-bit machine. I don't think the issue is greed, but Apple does have very stringent requirements. I was quite shocked that Windows 10 installed and runs well actually!

That's great, but I have a late 2013 mac pro. If the software is available, shouldn't I be seeing it now?
Actually, I just talked to apple support, and they say that Boot Camp Assistant 6 is not actually released yet. Not sure where the people in the thread you recommended are getting it from.

My iMac 7.1 works with Windows 10 x64 just fine. Does Apple support Windows 10 on my system? No. But the Mac supports Windows 10 using Boot Camp 5

I was able to upgrade my 15" Early 2008 Macbook Pro (4,1) to Windows 10 FROM Windows 7 Pro without a problem. The only issue I've seen is the trackpad isn't working so I'm assuming its not supported. If you use a mouse this isn't a problem but be advised. It can be done!

See if these 3rd party add-on drivers Trackpad++ give you your missing functionality:

How did you do that? I can't seem to get the bootcamp 5 installer to run under Windows 10

Boot up in OS X, insert a formatted USB Flash Drive, open Boot Camp Assistant and create a boot disk. Reboot in Windows, then install drivers from the flash drive. Should work. I've had no problems at all since doing that. Only tried with Bootcamp 5 though... not Bootcamp 6 (if its even out yet). They might remove support in Bootcamp 6.

Lol I've done that also :) I thought you had some special way of extracting drivers. Thanks for the reply though.
