So this means Apple must have been testing Kaby lake chips in the MacBooks for the past 6 months or so to be sure they were ready for today's launch. Yeah that sucks for the people who bought the 2016 model.

The complete lack of audience enthusiasm is hilarious. Also the fact that the MacOS segment skipped over the touchbar entirely says everything about where Apple puts that tech on its list of priorities. I know they can't drop it after only 8 months but don't be surprised if TB vanished completely in the next update.
Overall I think the updates are good. People have complained about a lack of new desktops and now we have them. The MacBooks and MacBook Pros are getting normal spec bumps that Apple sometimes just announces through press releases.

I agree that since we didn't see a desktop with Touch Bar that Apple may de-emphasize it. I thought it was an interesting idea, and find it modestly useful but evidently it isn't getting the kind of traction Apple expected.

Don't sweat it. This spec-bump is a marginal performance gain at best. I also have a late 2016 13" MBP and, while it would've been nice to have Kaby Lake when I bought it a few months ago, I'm glad I've been able to use it in the meantime rather than wait for this minor update.

True. But, really, this should have been the default CPU in 2016 notebooks. :)

'Till the store is back up we can confirm if were still stuck at 16GB, since they did not mention anything abut memory

The excuse for Skylake 16GB limit was that it could t address more then 16GB and needed Kaby Lake to exceed that...

Just need 24GB...32GB is probably overkill.

16GB is just not enough to run a parallels windows environment with dev tools - yes I know that you can now get Visual Studio for Mac but that can't build windows targets.

No announcement on 32 GB. Bad news ! Incredible new video development software, but hardware will not be able to handle it. Looks like I have to squeeze a couple more years out of my Late 2013 MBP 16/1. My business is travel, so desktop does not work for me.

All the folks who bought 2016 MPBs are now furious. ...myself included.

WHY? YOU chose to purchase a hardware at the TICK cycle just cause of a redesign and you KNEW the CPU was old upon release compared to what Asus, Lenovo, ACER, DELL, heck the entire industry upgraded to and was shipping already with 7th gen Intel iCore cpu's. This update comes in at the standard 8mth refresh cycle for Apple.

Kaby Lake also cannot support more than 16GB of LPDDR memory. You have to wait until 2018 and Coffeelake.

I have the ntbMBP and the minor update to Kaby Lake is fine for me.

But not the $200 drop!

Btw it's about ~$1,700 when I bought it here locally. So yeah, the drop is pretty significant.

I just purchased a MBP 15" TB with the Skylake 2.9 i7 6920 which was too processor a week ago. Should I return it for Kaby Lake or try to get some money back with the price drop? Looking for opinions.

Looks like I won't be returning my Mid 2015 15" Pro after all. I was kinda hoping Apple would drop the price of the touch bar 15" or at least give us a non touch model. Now I have to sell my 13" SG nTB Pro and that's really where I'm screwed.

Furious? Nah, Kaby is incremental. Some nice efficiency gains but that's about it. It would have been nice on the 2016 models but they probably weren't available in scale at the time.

32 Gb? Maybe. More space? Maybe. Terraced batteries? Maybe. Price drop? For sure.

Incremental CPU bump, meh.
Free GPU bump, yeah ok for those who paid extra for it in the beginning. But it's not like there is a brand new chip.

The 2017 is a nice refinement of the existing, barring any fixes under the hood that weren't mentioned. Craig spent less than 4 minutes for the entirety of the mac notebook line. There was nothing to talk about.

I hope the battery life and keyboard problems have been fixed. Sold my Surface Book and now back to my 13 inch 2013 Mac Book. Going to get this model if fixes some of the problems with the 2016 version.

I am hoping they sell the 2016 models at a nice discount. The Kaby Lake upgrade seems very marginal. The 2016 models should perform almost identical.

The only thing from today that could possibly get you furious is the price drop, if you have bought a non-touch 13inch in the recent past. Other than that, the 2017 models are basically minor spec bumps that are negligible for 99% of the users.

Even if you are upset about how much you paid, it's still because you were too lazy to do any homework because the 13-inch base model has been selling for $1299 at least 1/3 of the time in the past.

Got mine with 200$ off and another $100 off apple care. Didn't regret a bit.

(Update: Just noticed the so-called price drop is not actually a drop. It cut storage in half, too. Meh)

So no 32gb I guess?

I have no idea why you were expecting 32GB LPDDR since we already knew it wasn't compatible was Kaby Lake...

I guess I'm not furious, just disappointed. The timing between the 2016 release and this new update just feels too close, especially since I bought my MBP in January.

8 months is "too close"? They should have released Kaby Lake MBP back in Feb/March. The MBP is now worth purchasing for those who need it, the 2016 version was a joke.

Hopefully we'll see CoffeeLake by Jan/Feb.

Like I mentioned, it's not bad news, we already knew it wasn't possible. Wait until CoffeeLake.

The Apple store is back up.

The ntbMBP base model is now 128GB haha. The 256GB model actually had a price increase!

It does have a faster RAM and Iris 640.

I'm not too furious now.
