Just a heads up - FCP 10.1 is not playing nicely with my Drobo. After converting everything to the new library format I have had freeze after freeze every time I try to load the projects off my Drobo. Still trying to resolve this one.

Really, Drobo is used professional?? You are brave!:D

Well I decided to take the plunge but only because I got a heck of a deal. I purchased three $100 iTunes gift cards from Best Buy for $210. I am no video pro but to be able to get FCPX for a savings of $90, I had to jump on it. Its going to be a fun upgrade from iMovie. I am really looking forward to learning the ins and outs of this software and hopefully remixing some music videos like I do with regular music. Wish me luck! I hope I made the right decision.

I really like FCPX except for just one big issue: file management.

File management isn't a problem in FCPX.1! It is a lot easier. Take a look at the new Ripple Training tutorials. I am now able to get libraries that point to external media to other editors using Apple's iCloud! I can also get small libraries that contain media to other editors in the same way quickly and this only depends on file size and bandwidth.

File management in 10.1 has come a long way.

For Mavericks Only?

I just switched to FCP X over the holiday, hoping to return to work and sell my company on it. This major update would seal the deal, but now to tell them that we cannot take advantage of the complete features because it requires an OS update that would make our other software not work is out of the question.

To me, that's another slap in the face to professional editors on Apple's part.

I have a second Mac that I can upgrade to Mavericks and use this with if I want. However, based on their compatibility page, 99% of the software I use won't work with Mavericks.

Why not make it compatible with at least two versions back? I'm disappointed.

With every update I loose compatibility with some type of software, and half the time I don't notice tell I try and do something in the software and it fails. I really really wish I could just stay on Mountain Lion for a little bit longer, there was a time when these damn updates weren't so often
