Didn't it previously only play on the iPad 2 because of processor speed?

What changed to allow it to play on the iPhone 3GS?

Um, it always worked on the original iPad also. This was an update to give a small-screen interface. If you're going to make a dumb joke, at least have SOME facts straight to avoid looking like a complete fool.
;)

----------

It did not show up on the App store on my 4S. I got it to work but not from my iPhone 4S. I deleted it under iPad apps in iTunes on my MBP then re-downloaded it. Then dragged it to my iPhone 4S. It's not showing up seamlessly like it should.

Ever heard of a rollout? It hasn't populated everywhere yet. Smh....

So you're saying it is, in fact, the 'same' app in the app store so you don't have to buy if you've got the iPad version already, right? Was wondering.

Also... Re: connecting a midi controller. Do you HAVE to use the camera connection kit (I do have it anyway) to use a midi controller or could you use the standard iPad dock connector cable with a USB-A female to USB-B male adapter on it? Just curious.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

Oh hot dog, there's nothing I want more than to navigate 4 octaves worth of keys on a 3.5" screen. Lame

I love garage ban on my iPad, but it just wouldn't fly on my phone

import .wav samples into GB?

I've never used GarageBand on the iPad but i was wondering if it's possible to import .wav samples from sample packs into it? I could store the sample pack in an app like Files2 or USB Disk, but is it possible to import individual samples into the arrange window in GB for iOS like i can do in the Mac version?

It was not intended as any type of joke - - I asked it as a legitimate question.

It seems that the iOS version of GarageBand was once rumored to be exclusively for the iPad 2...

"The initial rumour was that GarageBand is an iPad 2 exclusive, but it now seems that it'll run on the original model too. However, we're guessing that this will be a pretty processor-intensive app (the desktop version is surprisingly CPU-hungry), so if you want to get the most out of it, you'll need an iPad 2."

I suppose it serves me right for frequenting rumors sites.

Yes If you bought it for iPad you own it for all iOS devices.

If it's not fully rolled out it should not be on the frontpage of the app store in itunes on MBP. Still missing from the iPhone app store.

Indeed, look at her solo performance of Pokerface on the BBC.

I'm as jaded as one can get when it comes to the music business and the music factories of today, but that actually put a smile on my face. Thank you and well done Gaga!

Also: GarageBand in my pocket! (together with NanoStudio and what not. :D)

Now if they'd only add an arpeggiator to the Mac version. I'm getting really tired of manually adding arpeggios to my music, since Cakewalk had this feature like 15 years ago...

Wow been asking for this since the Iphone rumours.

Surprised they never unveiled it at the press conference with Garage Band for Iphone 4S.

Get bored of using the free drum apps which are poor glad I can use a good app now.

Anyone else having difficulty downloading it to their iPhone? I have had GarageBand for my iPad 2 since March and when I try downloading it to my iPhone 4S, it just says "waiting" and doesn't download the app. I have tried a few different times, even leaving it for an hour or two and still nothing. Any thoughts?

I hope this is just the beginning.

PLEASE make a companion app for Logic X (or 9) for iphone, ipad, ipod, that is a REMOTE at least with transport controls. The dude that made his own and put it on the app store wants $150 for his (granted, it works with nearly all major DAWs)! There's a transport remote for iTunes, why not make one for Logic so that I can at least stop and start recording from the live room instead of having to go to the control room and leave the band alone. Producer/engineers everywhere would rejoice.

Now that I got that out, GB for iOS looks great, but only slightly impractical. Someone find me a lithium battery powered (stereo) mic pre that has phantom power and then you're talking. iPhone recording with a Neumann! better yet, a pair!

if you connect to itunes, you can drag all the samples into the garageband "directory" under apps.

Thanks! Don't they require a driver? When I plug my Yamaha DGX-620 into my Mac for GarageBand, it doesn't recognize it. I've tracked down a driver that does allow it to work. Will this work on iOS without that driver?

this link, http://iosmidi.com/devices/ lists all "known" compatible midi keyboards. otherwise, just grab iRig midi and that works with any midi keyboards (with traditional midi in/out) according to ikmultimedia's website.

Haters gonna hate, but what we have here is an 8-track recorder plus a fairly remarkable and capable music creation tool that fits in your pocket.
When I was a kid this stuff was as big as a Volkswagen.

It is only as limited as your imagination...

So no iCloud support? Strange.
Checking the system requirements, it's great that they did this first. They made it work with iOS 4.3, so that anyone still working in getting to iOS 5 isn't pushed by an iOS 5 requirement. I'm sure they could make the iCloud support conditional for users not with the latest OS, but I bet they wanted to ship this first and add more features later.
