Don't get your hopes up regarding improvements to the cooling. None of Apple's promotional pages mention anything about it. So you'll likely be disappointed.
I understand, but Apple doesn't say much about anything, so one can still hope. ;)

This announcement has confirmed there will be no iMac redesign this year.
This also confirms that the upcoming redesigned Mac Pro and display will be the obvious best option for any Mac user looking for an actual upgrade.

Bad timing to upgrade the iMac, this should have come a while ago. Intel has mainstream 6-core desktop processors for almost a year and a half now.

In October or November, some seven months from now, Intel is going to introduce the 10th gen of Core processors, maybe using the 10nm process. And AMD is introducing new video cards earlier than that.

Its not even a consideration for a non tech savvy person who doesn't know what they are doing disassembling an iMac. I have done it on a couple and while it isn't hard, I would rather pay for a SSD upgrade at time of ordering or just boot off an external Thunderbolt 3 SSD.
Note I used the passive voice "have the HDD replaced [by a service technician]".

Mac mini with a Vega 56 egpu is the best option. And you get 4 thunderbolt 3 ports + T2 chip + Bluetooth 5.0 + space grey :)

It’s a shame Apple persist on not letting users upgrade the RAM in the 4K variant (unless you take it into an Apple store etc at a later date); that, and the fact they are still using slow HDDs.

Well, this is almost exactly the refresh they needed - LAST YEAR.

Why does it take Apple so long to release something that's barely a change?

And why are they still putting hard drives in anything?

I just don't get it. Did they cut the engineering budget to almost nothing? It's like they're barely trying.

I wonder why Apple is so obsessed in reducing the bezels of iPhones and iPads but so reluctant to change the thick bezels of iMacs.

iPhones and iPads are portable devices used on the go and if a larger screen can be implemented in the same form factor/dimensions by reducing the bezel so much the better for the user experience. A bigger screen in your pocket/purse/backpack and without the penalty of a larger form factor.

The iMac on the other hand will never move from the desktop so a reduction in the size of the bezel would not have a significant impact on how it’s used. You could make the point that it would “look better” but once you turn it on that impression wouldn’t last much more than a minute or two.

When they launched the iPads with a press release on a Monday instead of the typical Tuesday, I suspected that this was going to be a full week of hardware announcements ahead of the event. AirPods 2 and AirPower later today or tomorrow? iPod Touch refresh too?

I agree AirPower is coming soon, but I believe this is one thing they will announce at the 25th event. The code was updated in yesterday's 12.2 beta and rumors suggest 12.2 official launch on the day of the event. That would no doubt be a reasonable assumption.

I'm disappointed at how few outraged complaints there are about shipping 8GB systems. My 16GB MBP is nearly unusable due to RAM contention. I will never buy another system without at least 32GB. Still shipping 8GB should be illegal.

what do you use on that? I have 8GB on my 2015 and I've never had issues.

Yeah, I really don't understand the obsession with the bezel.

It's fine. We gain almost nothing from it going away.

What would be wonderful is if they could make the whole machine thicker, with a Blu-ray drive and some slots for standard NVMe expansion drives. And make the RAM easily accessible on the 21.5" too. Not everybody needs a 27", but everybody needs to be able to upgrade RAM.

Oh, and stop gluing the stupid screens on. They're a pain to cut off. Go back to magnets.

Oh, and Apple - you know what would be REALLY courageous? An antiglare screen. Dump the shiny, just make antiglare standard!

C’mon Apple! It’s been 10 YEARS! Where’s the innovation?

I was totally expecting a redesign. Even as a bare minimum, I thought SSDs would be standard, especially after the new Mac Minis received them last year.

At least not having them standard means the storage isn't soldered. So there's that.

I haven't seen inside them yet, hopefully they didn't pull something really stupid and solder the RAM this time.

Tim would be too embarrassed to launch AirPower (again) on stage. I expect it to be launched in a press release tomorrow along with the iPod and AirPods but it'll probably be demonstrated on stage or make an appearance during a demo of the TV or News services.

I mean, if you really want to be pedantic, the design hasn't REALLY changed since the iMac G5 came out. It's changed materials, gotten bigger screens, and gotten thinner, but it's still the same basic screen with a chin on a foot design it's been since 2004. I miss the old iMac G4 design... that was real innovation, and it would work amazingly well given how small components are now.
