BTW... Didn't someone from Apple state a while ago that October will be an exciting time for all of us? Well... IMacs are out. MacBook Airs are out... The iPhones and iOS are out... The only things missing are... Well the rest things ;-) and one of their most important things they bring out are their MacBook Pros... So I'm very very confident these nice machines will be mentioned in an event mid next month... And if they say something exciting comes out... What the heck is supposed to be exciting about an integrated GPU? Noooooo... The 15" at least will come out with an optional dGPU... End of story :)

...and the card reader and headphone jack are still on the back.
It makes sense for cables that rarely get unplugged, but headphone jacks, which generally interrupt speaker output, should be more accessible. As should SD card slots.

Besides that I am happy to see a spec bump.
If I chicken out waiting for the Mac Pro (or if it's ungodly expensive) I'll go for the i7 with the 780m for my new Logic/FCP machine.

Yeah. But the iPhone 5c is not even an upgrade... it's exactly the same hardware as before, but in another package... yet, Apple is making it sound like a big deal.

Well, yeah....if they changed the shape and/or color of the iMac, you'd know about it. People buy these things to improve how they feel about themselves and their awesome digital lifestyles, not to crunch data faster.

Hmmm...high-end iMac 27", or low-end Mac Pro Trashcan Edition (TM) with 4K Thunderbolt Display? I'm gonna have to wait this one out. Thinking I might sell my rMBP and get a desktop Mac and a MacBook Air.

That's true. Kind of "computers for those who are not interested in computers". Too much hype about colors and stuff, and not about the real thing that comes inside the package.

The 775M with 2GB vRAM is better than 675MX from the last year

Basically they doubled the amount of vRAM for all models -IMBA
I wasn't saying it was worse than last year, only that it isn't powerful enough for decent gaming at 1440p. The 780M is nearly twice as good as the 775M.

It's an inprovement but it's nothing compared to the real thing, i mean, the desktop version.
Well the GTX 680MX was equivalent to a desktop GTX 580 which was pretty good. The 780M should be a little better, whilst using less power. Maybe Apple's overclocked the 780M as well for even better performance?
The GTX 780M and 770M both support higher-than 2560x1440 resolutions, so I believe the 775M can support that also.
I wasn't saying the 775M doesn't support it, it just won't run very well at 1440p on decent settings. The 780M is a solid GPU though, it scores nearly twice that of the 775M and I'd say that's good enough gaming performance imo.

How do you think the 775M compares to the 680MX on the 2012 iMacs? I have a 2012 iMac with the 680MX upgrade on order at B&H for $1849 (no tax) but am considering canceling it and buying a new iMac with the 775M for $1899 + tax with the education discount.

Gaming is fairly important to me but I'm definitely not a hardcore gamer. I mostly play Day of Defeat: Source and CS:GO, but I wouldn't mind having more power to handle newer games.

Either the 680MX or the 775M with slightly-faster CPU would be a huge upgrade from my current machine, an old 24" iMac with the GeForce 8800GS.

I know the 680MX is a pretty substantial upgrade over the 675MX, but I'm just not clear on how the new 775M compares.

5 Years happy

Just pulled the trigger....been waiting for years.....replaces my 2007 first gen aluminum.

Me too! Love my 2007 - but I'm ready to pass it on to my my daughter.

I'll admit I understand about a third of what you all are talking about, but I'm excited! If I've got it right, my currently awesome machine will be replaced with something that boots and opens applications a great deal faster (I got the fusion upgrade). iPhoto and iTunes will perform much better though they each have thousands of files, and the iMac should stay cooler, too (I can get rid of the fan I have pointed at the back of this one).

Oh - and I can finally stream directly to my Apple TV without using my iPad!

I'm getting the TimeMachine too - I think that means my wireless will be faster?

I hope I'm as happy with the new one for the next 5 years as I have been the old one!

What about.....

silent upgrades....?......:D......

Nice to have the Haswell CPUs. And more options on storage and GPU (albeit, on a cost).....

Hope to see the upcoming benchmarks soon enough. Areas of interest: GPU performance and power comsuption/management. I expect no more than 25% increase in Geekbench scores.....

:):apple:

According to Notebookcheck there's about a 50% drop in performance with the 775M compared to the 680MX.

(Scroll down for the benchmarks... find comparable games.)

It's possible the 775M could be higher clocked than in those benchmarks listed, but not nearly enough to recoup that kind of performance from the 680MX. I'd guestimate that the 780M is about 15% better than the 680MX.

So did they drop the dedicated graphics from the low-end?

How does the Iris Graphics in the haswell compare with a dedicated old low-end such as the 650 M with 513MB?

I wish they would update the Thunderbolt Displays.

The current model still has the old USB 2.0 and old-style magsafe connector.

(not to mention the 2010 style enclosure.)

It would be great to have OS X Mavericks with dual monitor support on the new iMac and a matching second display...

So I am guessing this is going to be a good preview for (if?) when the Macbook Pros will be updated and potentially the specs.

So I'm guessing:
Haswell i7
nVidia 750M 1GB GDDR5
32GB BTO?

What I would like to know if there would be a rMBP BTO on the graphics cards?

Let's just change this site to iPhoneRumors because MACrumors is clearly not the objective of this site anymore. Or is this Apple double downing on secrecy?

I agree, got tired of reaching back there with an SD card so now I just plug in a adapter into a external USB dock I have under the iMac. Really the SD card should be on the side.

pretty nice update .. wireless ac .. PCIe based flash and the 780 4gb . :)

Well pretty nice doesn't equal faster wireless and 2 optional upgrades. But there's always an exception to the rule.

The iPHone sold 2 1/4 times in one weekend what the Mac sells in a year..........

Anyway not a bad thing we don't hear about Mac rumors actually. More fun that way. This was a pretty minor update though so easy for Apple to hide it.

Wow, my 2012 iMac is officially last years model.

Will be interesting to see how much faster the new ones are.

They won't be faster except SSDs or the optinal hi end gpu. Haswell all about power efficiency.

The 2012 iMac turned out to be a good model to buy.

Baseline 27" is £1599 ($2555) here in the UK.
In the US it's £1125 ($1799)!

So we pay an extra £474 ($757).

I don't understand the massive price discrepancy.

Well I found the answer to my dilemma.

With the announcement of the updated iMacs, there are some great deals on refurbished 2012 iMacs. I bought this:

3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB memory
1 TB Fusion Drive
GeForce 680MX

...for $1999 + tax. With AppleCare the total came out to under $2,300.

Not bad, I would have paid just over $2,100 for the i5 / 8 GB / 1 TB hard drive (not Fusion) / 680MX plus AppleCare from B&H.
