Export to MS Word?

I see that the iWork for iPad update allows you to export to PowerPoint and Excel, but can you export to Word from Pages? Or could you already do this with the old version?

Hmmm...

I read the linked thread, but I have to say that my experience has been different, and my iDisk connection works fine on my iPhone, iPad, and iMac, the iMac being a lowly 2005 1.8ghz G5 PPC running 10.5.8!

Not sure what the problem is with the posters over at Apple support, but I uploaded a couple Pages docs and exported a Keynote file to PPT and upped to iDisk and it just took a couple of seconds, maxed out at my normal (good) upload speed. YMMV.

And yes, a Dropbox option would be ideal.

I have never had any problems with my iDisk on Mac, iPad or iPhone! Tried drop box out before the improved iDisk app came out for iPad and didn't like it... MobileMe iDisk integrates better with my laptop than drop box and I didn't like having drop box in my menu bar telling me things I already knew... As for time capsule backups.. If you have your iDisk copied to your hard drive (simple option in settings menu) than it will back up as well... Whereas drop box is always copied to your Hard drive so of course it backs up

Yep, this has been in Pages since day one.

I can do without cloud computing, I can do without Powerpoint syncing, but what I really really want is iWork '11. It's now almost TWO YEARS since the last version. I do hope that it isn't going the same way as Appleworks went - down into the pit of 'never to be improved'.

That's great to read. I'll definitely try it out then and hope for the best.

RE: Apple Updates Keynote, Pages and Numbers for iPad

Apple needs to release the iPhone and iPod Touch versions in time for the holiday season. I would then buy them immediatley.

What would you do with them? View one cell at a time? If it's going to be a miserable experience, Apple isn't going to do it. For this I'm thankful.

It's great that Apple is working on iWork for iPad. But I won't consider the iPad a "first class" tool until Microsoft makes Office for iPad. That would be killer. Oh, but it would also kill the windows netbook market. Whoops.

My calculator (similar display size to iPhone / iPod touch) has a spreadsheet app and I can only see 3-4 columns at a time unless I make them really narrow. It has a presentation app too but I've never tried it.

The ability to import and export existing footnotes is a big deal. This renders Pages slightly less useless than it had been before.

Very true... I'm sure it still doesn't track changes though which is a big issue.... maybe the next version.

I wish Numbers for the iPad could export to Numbers '08 for the Macintosh. I purchased the iPad app a while back thinking I'd be able to open the exported files on my Mac. However, I only have iWork '08, and it can't open iWork '09 (or iPad iWork) documents.

The app description didn't note this incompatibility, otherwise I wouldn't have purchased it.

Well, you can make changes to existing footnotes, send the document back to iDisk and the changes remain with the document, so it is definitely a step in the right direction. I imagine the next big update will have the ability to create notes.

Personally, the most important part of the update was Apple acknowledging that footnotes are a major issue and they are working towards remedying the situation.

The iDisk feature in this update of Pages works better for me than it does in DocsToGo since the latter doesn't update the contents of my iDisk successfully unless I delete it from the source list and re-add it.

Pages still destroys Word tables, though, which I should have expected, but still . . .

Otherwise, a decent and very welcome update.

I'm still waiting for Microsoft Office to work properly on the Mac. Seriously, it's a joke at present.

Example: Excel spreadsheet with a large data table.

2 seconds to calculate on my aging 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Windows XP machine in the office running Excel 2003.

25 seconds to calculate on my brand new 2.8GHz Core i5 iMac running Excel for Mac 2008.

Gimme a break Microsoft!

Perhaps they'll make use of the Retina Display on the most recent products to display as much as possible. If that's the case, they might even wait until the next iPhone announcement so that they wouldn't get attacked for supporting just one generation (i.e. the next iPhone will assumedly have Retina Display too).

While there are office apps available for the iPhone/iPod touch, none of them could be considered Apple-like.
