So, I bought a Mac mini 2018 and it’s a big disappointment compared to my mid-2011 iMac. Performance increase is hardly noticeable, I expected more from the NVMe drive and newer generation processor.

That seems surprising. Did your iMac have an SSD? If it had an HDD, performance should be massively better.

Other disadvantages compared to iMac:
- Finding perfect display settings is a hassle and the result is never as good as the iMac display settings
- Sleep function on Mini and external monitor are not in sync. Wake-up is also longer than the iMac (not sure if it’s the monitor or the mini)
- Built-in speakers in the Mini suck
- USB ports are not powered when in sleep,
- No webcam, SD slots, keyboard nor mouse included (yes of course I knew that, but did not calculate it in my cost-comparison).
- More cables required so your desk looks messier. (Not only monitor also sd reader, speakers, webcam, etc..)

Honestly, quite a few of these sound like an iMac is just more the kind of machine you want.

I would suggest OWC knows their stuff. I've been working with Larry and his staff since.. 1990 or so. They stopped supporting a whole rash of Macs due to this issue costing them much headache. So.. it's not just a few people.
Thank you for that! I just bought a 2018 and the problem with the ports is so bad that I can't even make a backup in one pass. All of my other (older) Mac minis were awesome, but this new one (2018) is a huge disappointment.
