My wife was going to get one of these then I checked and saw the MBP is cheaper (and better specs). Why should she buy one of these? I'm confused.

It's much lighter than the MBP. Base 13 + 13, Air also comes with an SSD as default.

It will feel faster and more responsive in daily use with the Air, than the MBP.

The prices on the CPU for the 11 inch just went up lol?

It was definantly 135 at one point, I copy and pasted it, now there is only 150 and 100 (13 inch)

50 dollars less for a bigger screen and a 5% MAX slower cpu...maxed out 11 inch isn't looking so good

Well I'm not dishing out $1200 after taxes just for a standard 64gb hard drive. I was hoping for more from Apple. Looks like ill just be getting the MBP

Interesting to see that with the bigger laptop you also get a bigger battery which is nice

MBP is where it's at, or will hopefully be at least. They need to refresh it, bad.

13inch MBP is so slim and light already, MBA seems useless except for right now it has better specs than the PRO o.0

Can someone give me an idea of the everyday performance of these processors versus say an i5 from last years macs? I tried older versions of the air and found them a bit sluggish even with opening web browsers, but I bet the solid state drive, more memory and processor help a lot.

From my order confirmation web page:
"1.8GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7"

From my order confirmation email:
"Processor 065-0599 1.8GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5"

(I'm assuming the "i5" in the email is a typo?)

Some for me. I better hope so to :)

The backlit keyboard's return is nice, but the processor choices are a bit saddening. I guess Apple chose to go with cheaper processors to increase their profit margin or maybe to offset the cost of SSDs.
Still only $50 off for education pricing. Kinda makes the MBP look more attractive.

Edit: so i just looked at the geekbench results in the laptop mag review, 5040 for the 11 inch ultimate, and 5860 for the 13 ultimate. Pretty darn good :)

Anyone know if the display is the same as the last generation viewing angle wise?

mm..

no, not good bye.
Look at iPod Classic.
They havent touched it since 2007.
But they did not kill it. You can still order it today.
As such, the MacBook will just enter the eternal state of stagnation in which its colleague lives.

i dont think so.

iPod Classic is the symbol of iPod. We can see the iPod icon on iPhone and iPad.

but white macbook provides no benefit to us.

white macbook is heavier than macbook air, and slower than macbook pro.

macbook air and pro have facetime camera but WBA doesn't.

we don't care if the white macbook is killed.

Just called Apple. They said they will stock the Macbook Airs in the stores today. But call before you head out to the store.

Did anyone notice the awesome feature known as Optical Drive Sharing?!?! no need for that superdrive addition!!!
If Apple continues to abandon optical drives in their computers (see the new Mac mini), soon you will _have to_ use an external Superdrive if you want to read optical media on a Mac...

You can get a 128 GB SSD for $150 less in a 13" Air compared to 13" MBP. And even for 256 GB SSD (at $1600) the Air is still cheaper than a 13" MBP (even with third-party SSD, it is $1200 + $450).

Of course, the MBP has a noticeably faster CPU, an optical drive, higher RAM options, dual internal storage drive options. But then the Air has the higher screen resolution.

Edit: Added display difference (thanks https://forums.macrumors.com/members/502707/)

Guys, I didn't look through all forums because I cannot spend too much time while I am at work.

While I know that the old 13-inch uses a LV processor, does the new 13-inch have an ULV processor instead, which would mean on-par in performance with the new 11-inch's?
