I think its a decent update. the double SSD and $100 pricedrop is the part worth noticing. the CPU upgrade isn't much to talk about.

I see apple hasnt even tagged it as a new product on their webpage. So I guess they see this just as a natural upgrade, nothing to even mention.

Price drop in Poland was 700PLN (about 225$) for base 13". :O

999 EUR = 4.200 PLN

Seems normal. The exchange rate turbulence is over.

This update is the equivalent of the Mac Pro update last year before the trashcan model came out.

Slightly faster and a small price drop.

No retina in 2014? They are 2 years behind the times. They transitioned to Intel faster than the move to retina.

the most prolific period of innovation at Apple

Hey, at least we get something new before September 2014!

What's Phil Schiller's twitter? He must be gloating right now!!!

Will admit the price drop in the UK is very welcome.

Quit your whining! Tech is already much cheaper there.

Like what? One of the silliest comments I have seen on MR.

I assume you have never shopped in Australia? Its not in Europe, that is Austria.

A base Mac pro in AU costs $4000 AU
A base Mac pro in US costs $3000 US ($3250AU)

How on earth is that much cheaper? The US has the cheapest prices for tech, that is why alot of Aussies buy from the US. Even after they pay import duties.

Damn! I'm tempted to pick one up.

I'm not interested in the next MacBook Air. 13" screen is as small as I'd go on a laptop. Not a fan of 11/12" screens. Retina is cool but I can live without it and unless Apple is gonna jam a load of a extra battery inside then it's gonna reduce the battery life a good bit.

Either I get this or just hold out for a RMBP refresh.

Wow this puts all models in uk under £1000 that is pretty much the opposite from when they first came out. 256GB models are really attractive at that price. I have the high end 13inch as needed the cpu speed.

This kind of paves the way for a model between the macbook pro and the macbook air. especially price wise. I think the 11 inch is too small and the 13 inch too big but both have terrible screens, a retina 12 inch model could replace both at the right price. I feel like apple might end the 13 inch when bringing in a retina air so the top price is occupied by the air retina between the air and pro.

I still find it amazing that no other tech companies are making all their products line up with size and price with no fluff products. It seems they can't help releasing too many lines of computers and phones and tablets.

Apple should really drop all retina monikers though and just say non-retina on the products that are normal low DPI.

Wow! That base 11" is really good value for money! I nifty little MacBook which doesn't break the bank!

Looking forward to seeing if the 12" MacBook Air with Retina Display rumours are true though.

I'm actually impressed

I'm actually impressed with the new Macbook Air prices though. For example the high end 13inch price at AUD1399 is almost the same as in the US, when you take out GST and take into consideration the exchange rate.

What no 12" MBA - wow, I wonder if that means many disappointed people.

The price drop is nice, but its a very minor update

It's not, where did you hear that?

Yeah. That's rubbish. Tech costs lots more in Australia than US.

Ok may be cheaper in US - but did I say I was from US ? I'm in EU. Last November in Sydney I bought a MacBookAir with upgrades and an 32Gb ipad Air for the same price as a base MacBookAir in Europe - about a 40% saving (ok - includes 10% tax rebate at airport). Suffice it to say if I time it right, I could fly to Australia from Europe, buy a high end macbook pro there and fly back and still only spend the same as the macbookpro would cost me in Europe. You also have cheaper taxes on wages than we do so the relative cost versus displosable income is lower for you. Same goes for gopro cameras - retailing €450 in EU - equivalent in Aus is about €250. Same goes for Android phones.

So you make think you are hard done by compared to the US, but spare a thought for those of us in EU!! This kind of comparison is probably why you did not get a price drop - they absorb currecny fluctuations at times like spec bumps to discourage keep the cost relatively uniform across countries so that people aren't incentivised to travel to buy.
