Just made the choice of buying a Refurb MBA 13" Ultimate way more appealing and affordable since they also dropped the prices of the Refurbs

Wow, a 2012 intro MBA with student discount is $599. What a steal!

very tempted to buy one as my work laptop

Good guy Apple actually bumped up specs and dropped prices? Well done, good sirs and madams. :apple:

Disappointed there is zero refresh on high-end i7 models - they come with the same 1.7Ghz CPU as before. But not too surprising, given that there was no known Intel updates for i7-4650U CPUs.

.

This is very cool and what I expected with the price drop. The air is looking more appealing again.

And there go the refurbished 13" June 2013 models. I was not expecting a price drop either. I could just pick up a 11" model (even if I'm going to complain about the screen resolution!) and call it a day. It would be a amazing improvement over this ancient Late 2007 MacBook!

Which one? I did not pay attention to Mac, but iPad Air and iPad mini with retina display price is higher than US. iPad 4 price is same as US. Never lower than US.

Up until today. The price for the entry level Macbook air 13" has been $1100 in both countries. Essentially, Apple in California was selling in Canada for less than the price in the US when you convert to US$,( which of course is what apple keeps in the bank)

I just started looking at macs recently and noticed this so it may have only been for macbook air.

Mine is around 83 months :p still going strong though and running ML (mod of course) which made it so much faster than w/ official Lion.

ARM processors are not up to the task of replacing Intel's CPU's yet. The replacement for the Air will be using Intels Broadwell-Y 14 nm CPU's (3.5/4.5w TDP) in order for the MacBook Air replacement to be fanless.

Broadwell-H CPU's will be used in the iMac, Broadwell-U for the 13" MacBook Retina Pro & Broadwell-M for the MacBook Retina Pro 15".

Apple could launch in late Q4 but supply will be extremely limited.

Yes, IF Apple announces the 12" rMBA, assuming it is a MBA, in June a limited release in Q4 would make sense. While Broadwell is the likely processor I would not be surprised if Apple makes substantial advances with an ARM processor.

Wow, amazing price for this. Even better than competition.

This pretty much confirms new retina MBA coming soon.

Yesterday I had a close call with water and my MBP but luckily it survived, probably would have jumped on a MBA.

AFAIK the prices quoted on the website in UK are inclusive of taxes whereas, on the US website the prices are without taxes and the taxes are added when you check out...

You're right about the taxes in the UK prices but don't forget the taxes in the US are around only 10% on average, depending on which state. So consider the taxes and the exchange difference, any apple product is much cheaper in the US than in the UK!

749GBP is 1258USD, where as if you apply 10% to the UK price of 899GBP you get 989USD, that's 20% cheaper!

And if you consider upgrading/customising the laptop, that's even more expensive because each part you customise would cost more in the UK than in the US!

The updated MacBook Air will not launch until 2015.

I don't know where these 2014 rumours come from. They are 100% wrong.

And you know this, how?

It will come out later this year and stay alongside the non retinas until a refresh and then they will get rid of the non retinas. I'd bet anything that's what happens.

You think Apple is going to announce retina screen via press release?

Shows the power of Retina as a marketing term. Resolution and screen quality are merely specs for most companies. Notebooks have been incrementally improving (often surpassing retina quality) for some time without keynote events or special annoucements. Retina is table stakes now... it's not much of a differentiator when Chromebooks are getting 1080p screens.

It does come with trade-offs though... more power usage, more battery drain, more heat, fan noise, etc. I went with the Air over the Retina mbp because higher resolution did not outweigh those negatives. I'm encouraged by the idea of the future fanless retina design, which hopefully will also keep the great battery life and cool temps that the current model enjoys.

That $599 refurb MacBook Air is the really impressive deal.

Although it's the 2012 iteration, with 64GB SSD

Refurbished 11.6-inch MacBook Air 1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5

Originally released June 2012
11.6-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen display, 1366-by-768 resolution
4GB memory
64GB flash storage
720p FaceTime HD camera
Intel HD Graphics 4000

Elementary school kids.....

So following on from my previous example and adding UK and EU pricing

Mac Pro UK 2500 pounds (3000 Euro)
Mac Pro EU 3000 Euro
Mac Pro AU 4000 AU (2700 Euro)
Mac Pro US 3000 US (2200 Euro)

A whopping 11% difference between AU and EU

A 36% difference between US and EU

Sorry, but you are comparing EU pricing that included tax against AU price which is tax free. And you would be silly to fly to Australia, its much much cheaper to fly to US, and if you choose the right state, you get the tax off as well.

At the end of the story, OZ is NOT cheap. I'm from OZ, living in EU, some things here are a bargain compared to OZ, especially brand clothes. OZ will always be expansive as they have to import everything, and there is less competition. On My AU passport, I can get the Tax back on Apple stuff I buy here in EU..... dunno what you talking about it being expansive here ;)

.....should refrain of such silly equations!
USA: No federal sales tax (local tax apply in brick-n-mortar stores)
Australia = 10% GST
Europe = Average 19 ~21 % VAT
Add up various consumer-protection laws applied in Europe

Hello!

I just don't really see a 12 inch anything coming out in the next 12 months no thanks to this update. They would have to drop one of the sizes.

Nice price drop but still not tempting enough to upgrade from a mid 2012 13" 8GB 2Ghz i7 256GB. If they had offered 16GB then it might have been worth it. Retina would have been a no-brainer.

Btw those who feel 256GB is a bit tight, can buy a 128GB StorEDEG for the SD slot for $99. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DC9U2Q8/ref=twister_B00E3Q4ETA
It only performs at 30MB/s max but thats enough for movies, photos, music etc.
