I just don't really see a 12 inch anything coming out in the next 12 months no thanks to this update. They would have to drop one of the sizes.
I admit that the new MacBook Air is tempting but I want the ports and features that a 13" Retina Macbook would offer.Mine is around 83 monthsstill going strong though and running ML (mod of course) which made it so much faster than w/ official Lion.
Nice price drop but still not tempting enough to upgrade from a mid 2012 13" 8GB 2Ghz i7 256GB. If they had offered 16GB then it might have been worth it. Retina would have been a no-brainer.
Btw those who feel 256GB is a bit tight, can buy a 128GB StorEDEG for the SD slot for $99. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DC9U2Q8/ref=twister_B00E3Q4ETA
It only performs at 30MB/s max but thats enough for movies, photos, music etc.

The student discount has dropped to only $50 off on these now :/
Apple and price drop in the same sentence? Never!
1.7 Ghz/4gb/128 ssd for $899? What year is it?
They are getting there at least.
I can't see the point in either a retina Air, or a 12" Air TBH.
“With MacBook Air starting at $899, there’s no reason to settle for anything less than a Mac,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Macs have never been more popular, and today we’ve boosted the performance and lowered the price of MacBook Air so even more people can experience the perfect everyday notebook.”
Just made the choice of buying a Refurb MBA 13" Ultimate way more appealing and affordable since they also dropped the prices of the Refurbs
As a foreigner, can you not get your tax back in some states?
Dont worry. Apple will make up the $100 difference when you pay the $100 price increase on the iPhone 6. Magical isnt it?
Your suggested time frame is almost one year away which does not make sense with the current rumors. I would not dismiss the possibility of an ARM processor.
In the past Apple has done things for people that recently bought an "old" model. Do I just call them to see if they are doing anything like that again?
