Mine is around 83 months :p still going strong though and running ML (mod of course) which made it so much faster than w/ official Lion.
I admit that the new MacBook Air is tempting but I want the ports and features that a 13" Retina Macbook would offer.

Nice price drop but still not tempting enough to upgrade from a mid 2012 13" 8GB 2Ghz i7 256GB. If they had offered 16GB then it might have been worth it. Retina would have been a no-brainer.

Btw those who feel 256GB is a bit tight, can buy a 128GB StorEDEG for the SD slot for $99. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DC9U2Q8/ref=twister_B00E3Q4ETA
It only performs at 30MB/s max but thats enough for movies, photos, music etc.

I have a mid 2012 13" 8GB/512GB 2.0 i7 and feel the same. I also use the 128GB StorEDGE and it's very useful for storing all the stuff I don't need to access in a heartbeat.

My 2TB Western Digital bus powered USB3 HDD does ~95MB/s and it, too, cost $99. :)

Nothing special here. Intel offered a minor improvement to offset the Broadwell delay and Apple lowered the price by $100.

Personally, I was hoping we'd see 16GB RAM become an option and the base would move to a 256GB drive...

Still no motivation for me to update my 2008 MacBook. Let's see what 2015 offers.

1.7 Ghz/4gb/128 ssd for $899? What year is it?

They are getting there at least.

2014. Hanson John will now tell us which "competitor" does sell the same or better hardware for $899 (Intel processor, SSD drive, much less than three pound, 9 to 12 hours battery life). In the UK, you may be able to get a Samsung laptop for less, but that's because Samsung is leaving the market and the last ones left are going really cheap.

I can't see the point in either a retina Air, or a 12" Air TBH.

/sign.

the rumors indicate:
-12" (okay could be)
-retina (obvious ********)
-same battery-lifetime or even better (not working since there are no new chipsets and retina)
-slimmer (don't think so)
-price?? (i guess cheaper, because the masses can't afford it :( )

Where is the updated Mac mini?

What worries me is this quote from Phil, because an enty-level Mac mini is currently much lower than 899$. The only hope about an updated Mac mini is the very last word:

With MacBook Air starting at $899, there’s no reason to settle for anything less than a Mac,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Macs have never been more popular, and today we’ve boosted the performance and lowered the price of MacBook Air so even more people can experience the perfect everyday notebook.”

Then again, if they can sell an 11" MacBook Air for 899$, maybe they'll be able to lower the price of the Mac mini too? Hopefully they're going to have Iris and Iris Pro options, too.

Just made the choice of buying a Refurb MBA 13" Ultimate way more appealing and affordable since they also dropped the prices of the Refurbs

That is what I would do as well if my computer were toast. I'm not sure why they don't offer 16GB RAM options in 2014. My 2008 MacBook runs on 8GB...

As a foreigner, can you not get your tax back in some states?

Only if the shop co-operates. In the UK, you will find that only shops specialising in selling expensive items to tourists will have the necessary forms available, and I can't see it being much different in other countries. On the other hand, there is usually import tax which you also have to pay.

Well theirs reason for apple to drop the regular macbook pro 13" now. the air is a much better option considering price to now

$599 for a refurb? Wish I could justify that.:(

Never mind. That's for a June 2012 with a 64GB SSD. I'd rather go with the June 2013 one with 256GB SSD.

I can't purchase anything less than a retina display screen at this point in time. This may be a good device to get for the nephew... a refurb..

Your suggested time frame is almost one year away which does not make sense with the current rumors. I would not dismiss the possibility of an ARM processor.

That's because he's guessing at it just everyone else on here. It'll be Retina when they announce it .

Sit back and either pickup either a new MBA or refurbished model and wait for June and see what come's about there.

I kind of like how Apple will do spec bumps and lower the prices. The current MBA is a great product. Redesigning for the sake of redesigning isn't the greatest move. I wasn't looking forward to the 12" MBA, but now I am.

I'm look at the refurbish store now. How come a 11inch 1.8ghz MacBook Air is selling less than a 1.3ghz air. ?
