You can see some minor influences, like that being among the lightest UI's Apple ever put in an iOS 6-style app, but yeah, looking to the WWDC app for any hint toward the future of iOS design isn't a good idea.
Still doesn't make sense that they would go dark when iOS 7/8/9 were white if they weren't testing dark mode/dark UI.

Dark Theme. That is enough to be noted anyway.
And a whole bunch of revamp. Music app, other stuff.
Ah, already feeling exciting. Cannot wait anytime longer!

--> Problem is: how many years can we still feel excited about upcoming WWDC?

I remember this from a few years ago:

iOS 7 turned out to look not that much like the updated app. So maybe there will be a dark mode, but it will look slightly different. But I would definitely love to see a dark mode!

I agree with you. There were some elements of the previous WWDC apps that turned out to be new things that were introduced. I remember when WWDC was orange, and in that WWDC, they introduced Swift. No one knew they were working on a new programming language.

I'm just saying the possibility is high.

The pseudo code makes me cringe....
I like it. Clearly they are attempting to highlight the clarity and simplicity of Swift code. Im not a programmer but from I understand Swift really is designed to be easily written by basically just writing in plain english what you want the program to do. Or otherwise in pseudo code as you described it.

Swift is definitely better than most (imo), but it's really not *super* different syntax-wise from other object oriented languages. Python on the other hand, while not object oriented, was built to be concise and natural. I agree with you though on them highlighting Swift; they hint at big changes in Swift 3.0 in the event descriptions.

We already know all the changes in Swift 3.0 now it's open source. Don't expect any surprises there.

To me this suggests what the dark theme will look like. Wonder if they'll make any other changes to the general feel of the UI

Apple using javscript/basic kind of language to show off WWDC ? suits me fine.. They think their clever, with different colors and all... I'll throw a spanner in the works by sticking a full stop somewhere..

How do ya like *them* Apple's :p:apple:

According to a tweet from Rene Ritchue I don't think we can expect much hardware at WWDC. I can only imagine what this place will be like if it's a software only event.

How would he know? They have announced lots of hardware at WWDC events before.

Starting to feel like the WWDC will be rather devoid of new hardware -- even new watch bands.

If Apple plans to rename it to Mac OS, I'm sure they intend to keep it a surprise...

But honestly, renaming to Mac OS or MacOS seems like a regression to me.

Seems like more of a reversion to me. Regressions are negative - you beat a personal record but then can never get near it again, you stop a bad behavior for a year but then go back doing it.

This would be Apple going back to the name it once used, which is at worst neutral. But to me it seems like a smart move because OS X -- which everyone thinks is OS "ex" seems generic because of the "X". OTOH Mac OS tells you exactly what the OS is for - Mac. Yes, everyone in this forum knows what OS X is. I guarantee you the vast majority of non-geek population does not, so going back to Mac OS is good branding and more accurate, esp. if Apple wants to move on to say, version 11.0.

This would be disappointing but not surprising. If Apple is going to overhaul their MacBook lineup, it would make sense to do so after the Back to School sale clears out old inventory.

Also, I wonder if Apple slipped out the latest hardware rumor to gauge feedback.

More remote is the possibility that the Skylake CPU bug is so problematic (looking at you Surface Pro 4) that Apple has chosen to wait for Kaby Lake in October. The only question is whether the Kaby Lake CPUs needed by Apple would actually be ready or whether it too will utilize a staggered launch like Skylake.

This is useless after WWDC...we gotta wait another year to use again.

Actually, no. All the videos from the Keynote/Platform State of the Union to session videos from previous years (all the way back to 2012) are accessible from within the app.

From previous years? I guess it would be useful if we want to go back in time.

Especially with the (eventual) coming of an OLED screen, it wouldn't surprise me if they did, either this year or next. A dark theme would save on battery consumption since pixels don't turn on to produce black.

Well this would certainly fit with the MBP OLED function strip, in essence another display, and would tie the LCD display together with it without significantly adding to the power consumption overhead.

Next gen they go OLED for everything.

Even though they just updated the wireless keyboard and trackpad, they could add an OLED function strip to them as well to make sense of this on the desktops as well ...

The pseudo code makes me cringe....
Me too. One of their variables starts with a capital letter, and why does learnAbout take 4 parameters instead of just an array?

What exactly is the point of a system wide dark mode again? Less glaring to use at night?
Yeah. I have easily-triggered migraines and have to sit at the computer for 9 hours a day, so I make everything dark if I can.

Just a wild idea ... what about renaming it to OSX and not calling it OS 10. I have always called it OS X like the letter not the number. I know it's technical wrong but I don't really care either :p

For the dark theme, my guess is a dark mode XCode. I am reaching here, but maybe XCode for iPad ? I know they said they won't do it.

Omg, that EXACT same comment is like 80% of your posting history; on ever single article.
Does it even feel bland, lame, unoriginal, pointless, boring, or annoying to you??!
(because it does to me)
